  1. Hi i think the pistons are from the triumph tiger cub.Try dc classics in yorkshire they sell all the parts you will need to build a trials twin, primary and gearbox sprockets etc.
  2. Hi Jon it all depends on what sort of power you like .A standard 3ta or 5ta will be soft and easy to ride,i have a t90 engine in mine which is pretty lively but i ride it like a modern bike on the clutch.A common mod is a 350 bored out to 400.
  3. Hi if the compression test was good there is not a leak which would effect running,if the valve guides are worn you will get alot of smoke but the engine will still run ok .If it ran ok with the other carb then the problem has to be the carb, check fuel flow to carb, float valve fuel level in float chamber .If still no luck try the other carb again and if that works get another carb.
  4. Hi any info on the 300 twinshock how do they compare to a 240/300 fantic and are the engines the same as the swm thanks.
  5. Hi the main jet size will make no effect to your engine cutting out .The problem is in the pilot system check jet size and if fuel ways are clear even in a new carb there could be a blockage. The black plug could be because you are using choke to get the bike to run.
  6. If you are thinking of using the impact gun instead of the two foot pipe you are wasting your time with the cheep gun even an expensive 1/2 inch drive gun will not produce as much torque as you could with the two foot pipe .I have a pro gun and industrial compressor and often have to crack bolts loose first before using the air gun.
  7. If you replace the clutch pack with a DP clutch from GGUK, dont use ATF, it swells the clutch pack and you'll be back to square one. HI i have a 05 280 with a dp clutch and have always used atf with no problems in 7 years
  8. Hi how did you manage to drill your spokes , never seen that before
  9. Hi Iron Master i see you are from derbyshire , there is a trial this sunday near winster a dales classic club trial i am sure you would be most welcome.
  10. Hi Paul yes i might ride my twin in the expert class if i dont get a twinshock,i ride expert every where else the only reason i didnt at peak last year was that some times sections are a bit tight to fit my triumph twin engine through without risking engine cases.
  11. Hi paul the new rules would not class my bike as a trickshock but it is not a standard pre 65 bike so it and all the other non standard bikes should be in the new trickshock class (i entered in the specials class in the northern bike championship last year).I have nothing against your new class it would be a good idea if all the modified bikes were entered in it but they will not be, the same as the northern bike championship with modified bikes in the normal classes which realy defeats the point of it. Looking at peaks rules and the bikes that normaly compete there i can only think of one twinshock bike that will have to ride in the trickshock class,is it worth having a class for one bike ,theres allready too few bikes in each class ,less classes would be better providing more of a challenge and the championships more worthwhile. As i have said before there are allready routes to suit everyone the bikes we ride dont make that much differance .
  12. Hi i dont no if you get a lot of standard pre 65 bikes competing down south, but here up north most of the bikes are modified so i dont think the sprite having a frame a couple of pounds lighter would give it much advantage.People ride the bike they want to not because it is a few pounds lighter otherwise everybody would be on bantams,i no alot are nowadays but not everyone and often the bigger bikes beat the light ones,it is the riders ability a good rider will win on any bike, look at last years scottish pre 65 for instance.
  13. Hi steve i would not class your bike as modified and the majority of twinshocks are not other than footrests etc. There is not much to be gained on the sections as they are now set out by modified twinshocks. It is the pre 65 bikes i am refering to.
  14. Hi could someone tell me what is so special about the sprite in question ,as i see it it is no differant to 99% of the james,fb,cubs etc ,eg trick forks, modern shocks ,moddified or new frames. So if this has to be in the trickshock-expert class then almost every other bike out there must also enter the trickshock-expert class regardless of the riders ability .I wonder if all the beginners-wobblers will be riding the expert route this year.
  15. Hi your problem with keeping the rear hub will be gearing, you need a lot bigger rear sprocket about 64 teeth,a 14 tooth front sprocket and also a small engine sprocket from dave mentioned in above post.To fit the engine spocket you have to grind some metal away from the main bearing housing to provide room for the primary chain.
  16. Hi not sure on length as my twin is in an enfield frame but i use 50 lb springs i weigh a lot more than you plus the shocks are more laid down on my frame than they will be in your 3ta, so i would think 50 lb would be plenty stiff enough.
  17. Hi thinking of going to the show, looking on the shows web site there seems to be presentations and talks etc but it does not say whats on each day.Which is the best day to go saturday or sunday.
  18. Hi another thing to look out for on the bsa unit single engines is the kickstart quadrant and gearbox main shaft can snap with heavy use of kickstart.
  19. Hi Charlie i do not agree with your view that the trick bikes and sections are putting people off of riding the big old bikes.I ride every week and all the trials i ride at have two and sometimes three or four routes to chose from so whatever the bike or riding skill there is something to suit everyone. Also a lot of riders me included are not bothered about the scottish, why build a bike for one trial which you have a very slim chance of getting an entry in when you can ride any where else fifty two weeks a year with no problem.
  20. Hi i think you have got it the wrong way round the early wheels were 36 hole and the new ones are 32.Its the 36 hole that are hard to find.
  21. Hi thanks for the replies, i have tried a 200 and found it low on power for my size it would not pick up again on a steep hill after shutting off.Is there any reason you find the 240 frame better than the 300 ,you would have thought the 300 would be an improvement with it being a latter model. Thanks mike.
  22. Hi looking to buy a fantic twinshock but do not know which one to go for the 240 or 300 is one better than the other . I would be riding the hard route and weigh 15 stone .If any of you could advise with reasons it would be a great help, thanks Mike.
  23. Hi steve the sprite used to be mine i sold it about 18 months ago it was a good bike to ride i won alot of trials with that bike before i changed to a four stroke.
  24. Hi i have a triumph twin with a fantic wheel,i only use one clamp and the tyre has not moved also if they do move it is often the opposite way due to braking.
