  1. Before you do any of this, get a certificate of newness or a letter dating the year of manufacture fro the importer. This can be there hardest part of registering a bike. Especially an older one.
  2. I always turn my rear tyres, that way I can more or less get a year out of one.
  3. I believe that organisers who run events on this basis (for example the Wyegate LDT) deem you to have failed if you walk past the begins cards. This incurs a five mark penalty.
  4. If the ACU say that we CAN'T run 'no sinpection allowed' then we won't do it. But is that what the ACU are saying?
  5. But at least by signing to say they've read and understood the regulations, it's got to be better than having nothing.
  6. Welded up my centre box last year and ground off the offending corner on the top of the gearbox. However, the rear silencer is now getting louder. Has anyone had the Birkett re-pack done recently and if so how much did it cost? Alternatively, has anyone bought a new silencer instead?
  7. Thank you for the reply. Just to calrify the ACU's official standing on this matter. If I've got this right; unless the Championship conditions (such as in the Trail Bike Championship) actually insist on allowing inspection, then organisers are allowed to run an event on a 'no ispection allowed' basis.
  8. Luckily, inthe UK we don't really have an off season. If you are prepared to travel you can ride every weekend.
  9. Welcome to TC. The type and age of bike that you can get obviously depends on you budget.
  10. According to my information, the first Colmore was run in 1911 and was won by W.D.South riding a Scott. So we know when the Colmore is 100 years old, what is slightly less certain is how many trials have been held. According to our records it is around 80 however we can't find any information about the 1973 event won by P.Dunkley on an Ossa. M.Andrews won in 1972, there was no trial in '74 and M.Rathmell won in 1975. Any info on '73 welcome.
  11. 50:50 water and anti freeze.
  12. Yep, that's what mine says. It's been on mine for the last three years even with three different insurance companies and two different brokers. I've just resigned myself to paying the
  13. No I didn't bump into Alan all afternoon, but I did get a snap of Ron Langstons combo complete with a new light weight sidecar passenger
  14. I've got a 1000cc road bike, a 400 Trail bike and a 250 trials bike. I insure them all on one policy, but I couldn't get anyone, including Carol Nash, to insure the trials bike for use on the road during an event. That doesn't mean there isn't anyone, but just that I couldn't find them. Incidentally, the cheapest quote I had was with a company called MCE who beat the next best by a huge margin and were
  15. The nice weather obviously helped the show. I was amazed at the number of people appearing to have great success selling rusty parts of old bikes around the outside of the main halls. A good day out. Here's a shot of the Stratford Club Colmore history stand.
  16. Noticed that it was back on SciFi channel. Ed Straker seemed so believable in 1978. Seriously; I had no idea two stroke oil mixtures was such an emotive subject! Now, here's another..... how much oil do riders put on their air filter?
  17. Tha main advantage of 'no inspection' events is that it helps to reduce queuing as riders don't spend time walking the sections, so this wouldn't really help.
  18. With the ACU road insurance system as it is currently, you (or someone) will have to insure the bike so that you can tax it for the road. The same will apply for when you try to register it, if the bike needs registering. If you are lucky you will find an insurance company who will cover you whilst riding on the road in a trial. Most won't allow this, so effectively you need to insure your bike twice which is a pain. That's what I do but I only ride in about four road trials a year anyway. The ACU are talking about organising full annual cover purely for road trials which will allow us to tax our bikes. Fingers crossed for that one.
  19. Last year I posed a question concerning one of our events which we were planning to make 'No Inspection Allowed.' The idea was to make the single lap road trial, simple and straight forward and suitable for riders to ride without needing to stop and look at the sections. I've ridden trials like this in the past and really enjoy this style of event. However, at the time I did have concerns as to the safety implications of riding into a section blind; if the worst came to the worst and someone was injured. With just a few days to go before the event, the ACU (John I believe it was yourself) contacted the club and advised us that we were to (must) allow inpsection. I assume that this will still be the case for this years event, especially as the wording in the ACU handbook has changed from 'should' to 'shall' allow inspection. But; what if the event dropped it's National status and ran as a closed to club/closed to centre event, would we then be able to make it 'no inspection allowed' again? With around 120 riders entered, allowing inspection creates long queue's early on in the trial and will force us to use shorter sections. Is there dispensation to make a club/centre trial 'no isnpection allowed' if we wish? Before I get into trouble; I'm only asking
  20. Correct. There is still confusion over fuel to oil ratios and air to fuel ratios. The word richer seems to be the main culprit. More oil in the mixture makes the mixture of fuel to oil richer. This has the effect of reducing the amount of fuel going into the engine, which makes the mixture of fuel to air weaker. Lets put the word 'richer' to one side for a moment. I normally use 80mls of oil to every 5 litres of fuel. If I put 100mls in instead, this will have the effect of raising the ratio of oil to fuel by a significant amount and (at the same time) reducing the ratio of fuel to air by an insignificant amount.
  21. I read with interest reports that organisers are considering runnning the 2009 Dakar Rally in South America. Should it still be the 'Dakar' as it would be in an entirely different continent?
  22. With the 100:1 or 50:1 oil mixture issue, we are talking about two distinct and seperate issues- More oil in the fuel means that the ratio of petrol to air does become slightly weaker but only by a tiny percentage. More oil in the fuel also means that the ratio of petrol to oil is obviously richer and in this case, it is a big percentage. I think people are getting the two confused. Now what is the best???.......
  23. Is the disc running centrally in the caliper? If it's catching the side (or one side more than the other), you are off centre.
