    Leaking Fuel?

    Hi all, I'm just posting this question for a mate who rides an 2014 Evo 200 and has the following ongoing problem. Since new the fuel cap on the tank has leaked from the breather tube. The supplier has sent replacement caps but they all leak the same. The last one was supplied from the suppliers own bike along with the comments "I know this one does not leak", well it does on this bike. So much fuel has leaked out that the decals are lifting or missing in areas where the fuel has reached. Some time ago I suggested he fit a bit of hose with and external one way valve on top to the cap, but he wants this problem sorted. Any body experienced this or may know of a cause? Oh and a remedy.   2. Hi Smart, I did this but only a small mark so did not bother to remove it, but I did fit the Carbon Fiber protector to the header pipe to prevent a bigger mark, dented pipe and wrecked pants. Its listed on the Hell Team web site. Cheers Taff
  3. Hi Barry B, Some models use mineral oil, some used Dot 4 fluid and the reservoirs were different size. Mineral has a green cap. Check this out first as Iv'e only had a 2012 Pro for a month or so and not up with the full story, I'm sure someone else will jump in, cheers Taff
  4. It sounds a different set up to the Sherco, might not be the best method in this case. I just got a Pro 250 so this thread is useful to me also, if the time ever comes. Cheers Taff
  5. Hi, I did this seal on my Sherco and removed it by carefully drilling a small hole in the seal to take a small self tapping screw, screwed in the screw which pushed out the seal. I took the point off the screw first. cheers Taff
  6. Hi, Our group here in North Queensland [too far for you guys] must be in trials heaven. we have amassed nine different properties or areas to ride on. Three of these are a pain to get to as it take all of twenty five minutes to get to two of them , The third is an hour and a half or more away where we meet up with the guys in Townsville and ride their rain-forest terrain. All the others are ten/fifteen minutes from town. We ride every Sunday am and every Thursday pm, and rotate the locations so we don't wear out our welcome. These are nearly all social rides. Some times we set sections for fun and at other times put on a proper run trial. Thursdays we have a beer after the ride and plan the Sunday ride. Then we text the guys who are not there and let them know. The other week we had nine riders show up after work for a couple of hours of social trials riding.   7. Defiantly not the same rules for all. It's seems it's a case of, not how good you are but who you are. I wonder what the minders have in their tool bags that must scare the observers

Hi, I carry a multitool [modern day Swiss army knife] with a host of little insert bits from Philips drivers to Alan keys all in there special holder. a small adjustable spanner [about 11 cm long] a spare plug, and a modified plug spanner that I fixed to the number plate of the front of the bike between the triple clamps. I also carry a swag of cable ties. out of the eight or more guys that fun ride on a Sunday, I'm the only one carrying anything, so when there's a breakdown one can make a bit of cash hiring out tools, you won't believe the cost of a plug out in the bush.   12. I started riding in the 1980's and had a 22 year break [no trials]. Since starting riding again in 2011 I find nothing has changed [except the bikes] still the same great type of people enjoying the sport. My 'trials' dealer is over 2000 klm away with another even further. So I only deal with them over the phone or email. Imagine my surprise when I walked up the their displays at the recent Australian round of the WTC, and introduced myself, both dealers said "oh the guitar man" information they would have got from my Emails, and remembered it. Another great story that shows the good service from most trials dealers. I ring dealer [interstate] for info re boots, he's not available so he will call back. I wait an hour and as the need was urgent I contacted my local motocross, trail bike dealer to get me a price too. The local dealer is not a trials enthusiast but does try to keep abreast of the needs of trials riders in this town so we support him when we can. Any way I get a good price and say go ahead. Little while later I'm contacted by the first dealer [interstate] who says he saw an order come through from my town thought it was for me, and said it has already left. Great service 3 days, I had the boots for a trial on the weekend. Taff
  13. Hi, what I did when needing info was to search back through the wealth of info in back posts on this forum [and others]. I got a much more varied list of comments and ideas. I printed many of these and put them in a folder for later reference. Cheers Taff
  14. Now that's a better option, you would not have to ride that good. I've been to a few Harley rallies taken 2-3 days to get there and some dude shows up with something like these and wheels his Harley out the back, oh! and the the misses one too. I'll stick with my tent and blue tarps. Cheers Taff

  16. Hi Yam, lets hope this all come out, first time posting pic's on this forum. As I was not sure what to expect I cut the first hole too small so cut another to get better reach, even then it was still a pain to get all the soaked material out. There's a pic of the different tools I used to get the crap out. The pieces I cut out were reused to fill the holes but with an oversize piece of alloy sheet riveted to them to leave a flange to create a better/ stronger seal. Using the metal putty and rivets I hoped to be able to gain access again in the future, if I re-welded things would be harder. It made a huge difference to the power of the bike so definitely will do it regularly. Hope this helps, good luck. Taff.

  18. Hi, I repacked my muffler by cutting a window in the front and riveting an aluminium plate with metal putty back over the hole. You can't see it as it's under the plastic heat shield. The muffler was full of soggy matting that you could ring out. After 5 years of neglect by the previous owner it was well worth doing. Cheers Taff
  19. I did not mention, but cleaning my bike after a ride is, for me, not just running the hose over the bike but also looking for loose bits or damage. I also have a log book where I record purchases, repairs and services. I often grab a beer and flick through it and it's amazing how time gets away and I forget that the job I thought I did the other month was actually a couple of months ago. I had a new guy test ride my bike earlier this year (Sherco 07 200) he came back and asked if I do my own maintenance, I said yes regually, he said " it shows, a nice tight bike". Turns out he is a motorcycle mechanic, made me feel good.
  20. Hi Mags, Looks like the chain in the photo is due for adjustment as well as lube. I spray my chain every ride, take it off to wash couple of times a year or as crud builds up. I use a good quality chain lube that is not sticky and dries a white colour. Since new 11 months ago and after riding twice a week, I have just had to adjust the chain for the first time. I'm not going to comment on time you spend on your bikes, I found time to clean/polish the spokes this week. Cheers Taff
  21. The seal is a spare for me or one of my mates. Its only a couple of bucks and available from a regular bearing supplier. I don't know who or where you are but I'm sure the post would cost more than the seal if you bought it local.
  22. Hi dnym, Yep, just done this. The annoying thing was the postage on the seal cost more than the seal itself, lucky I ordered two. Sherco 07. Removed sprocket drilled small hole in seal screwed in a self tapping screw and as I screwed in seal came out. Fitted new seal in normal way. Might be an idea to take the sharp point off the screw.     Sherco Engine Noise

    Yes I done mine some time ago. I collected all the info I could from back posts from this forum, and off the web and got quiet a few tips and things to look out for. Things like tying the gear cluster together and freezing bearing and warming cases. Just knowing what others had done and come up against was a great help as I'm only a hobby mechanic. Enjoy. Taff
