  1. Merry Xmas and feet up new year to all. Santa was good to us here, just sinking a few jack Daniels. Cheers Taff
  2. Hi Burns, we had thought of that too, but reasoned that if the vent was restricted enough to pressurise the tank then wouldn't fuel flow to the carby also be effected. The vent itself has not been modified [see photo for detail]. Air was freely passing through the vent when tested. cheers Taff
  3. Hi Folks, well guess what, its fixed, NOT solved just fixed. And it's all down to the post in my earlier thread [Leaking fuel] by "timppa" 17th November, thanks Tim. The photo he posted was very helpful. My mate would have tried that fix back in November [and saved a few more stickers from pealing off his bike] but as he only had the one cap and this was a warranty issue I suggested he tell the Beta agent to visit this thread and supply a modified cap. But as it turned out they sent a different cap with the same issues. My mate drilled out the underside of his standard cap as described in the earlier posted photo, and the cap was tested this morning on a 3 hour ride on a 35deg day. First 2 hours with no hose at all and the last hour with the hose going over the bars. NO LEAKS at all, no drips no spitting no bubbling. We did not find the cause but found the remedy thanks to "timppa". As mentioned earlier thanks one and all for your input, you made one Beta owner very happy . Cheers Taff
  4. Hi all, first thanks to all the responses to this ongoing problem with my mates 2014 Evo 200. Let me recap and bring new viewers/members up to date. .................Are you sitting comfortably?....then I'll begin. My earlier thread started in November {Leaking Fuel] was about this new Evo having a leaking fuel cap soon after delivery in June/July this year. My first comments after a test ride within the first two weeks was " I cant stand the smell of fuel, but nice to ride". Since that time all the suggestions posted by you all have been tested, most prior to the first post. Tank/fuel hot..hmm... fuel leaks on way to the ride site with bike on back of ute. Some manufacturing issue.....don't know this one as the dealer is 3000klm away, would have been spotted during pre-delivery I would have thought. Anyway it boils down [no pun intended] to the fact that whatever cap is put of this bike fuel will bubble out of the overflow hose. Prior to the new cap arriving 4-5 standard plastic caps had be tried and they do the same on this bike but not on the doner bikes. The problem, as my mate has pointed out to Beta, must be with the tank itself. We came to this conclusion as the new red anodized "Beta" badged cap provided by Beta had changed the bubbling of fuel to a pouring of fuel. Thursday evenings ride had my mate ducking fuel as it spat at him from the 75mm of hose on the new cap. It too leaked fuel prior to starting the bike just with gentle shaking. A test ride at home had the fuel bubbling out with the tank when half full. The dealers faith in the new cap may have been a bit suspect as he also sent a one way valve to place on the hose, just in case. Well the valve was fitted and we continued to ride. At our next stop for a drink I saw this valve sailing over bushes into the scrub and a very angry Beta owner standing there cussing I think you get the picture. So, next step [after informing Beta of the above] is to try the suggestion posted earlier by drilling holes in the yellow underside of the standard cap. Watch this space Cheers Taff
  5. Good on ya, my 125 had a 200 kit on it and the Kiehin carby and I fitted a top dollar shock, it was really a pocket rocket. My mate ( Beta 200) would not ride it. I actually de tuned it so I would enjoy riding the tight stuff more. Even my mate started riding it more. Chears Taff
  6. I find my 2012 250 pro easier to ride than the 125 in regards to power delivery. Taff

    Leaking Fuel?

Waddayaknow, I'm told the cap arrived today, a flash harry red one. Taff
  8. Hi Shercoben, I took the Keihin off my 125/200 Sherco and fitted it to my Gas Gas 250 Pro using the Jitsie adapter, seems to work well. Cheers Taff

    Leaking Fuel?

Still waiting on Beta, they said they have a new fuel cap. We all, 5-6 of us, have long rides on a Sunday and all fill up our tanks but this is the only bike that leaks fuel, even other Beta's don't. The other Sunday morning 7am not hot that time of day, my mate comes to pick me up with his bike still on the back his ute and as I load mine up I point out fuel bubbling up the clear tank cap hose. Go figger????? Will get back when the cap arrives. Cheers Taff.
  10. Have these guys ever met , or is it just a war of words?? Taff
  11. Hi Martin, here's my two bobs worth. I road a Sherco 2007 125/200 over the last two years and for the last 2 months I've had a 2012 GasGas 250 pro, so much easier to ride than the Sherco. And my arms are still the same length as when I started, it's suits me and I'm on the wrong side of 70. Cheers Taff
  12. Finally sorted. As mentioned I had already done all the above mentioned procedures with no success [bike could pull me back into the shed with the clutch lever against the bars]. But it seems I did not do the jiggling the lever with the cap off and the M/c at its highest point, properly, even though I got air bubbles. My mate had said [as was mentioned here] jiggle and leave it for a while and then go back and repeat. My mate added jiggle go have a beer and repeat the jiggling, I did not have the beer, was that the problem. Any way he came around and did the process and I could see to what extent the lever jiggling had to be done. Lots of more air bubbles but still the clutch pulled. We decided the issue must be in the clutch itself, so I again replaced the ATF with Global trannie oi. This improved the situation somewhat but not good. I decided to ride the bike anyway and see what would happen, I thought the clutch plates may have been effected by the coolant getting in there. Well and hour into the ride the clutch started to work as it should and has stayed that way though Sundays three hour ride. Now I'll have that beer Cheers Taff
  13. Hi Burns, I recon the best way to evaluate a bike is for you to grab a ride on each of the models, that's what I did, cos' only I can decide whats best for me. Other riders are often only too happy to give you a ride. Then you can discuss their findings with your own. I also read past revues and tests of the bikes [over the years] from magazines and the web. Good luck Taff
  14. Hi Dusty, gee I could have written your post word for word as I have the same problems last night, even the cause was the same. Iv'e already tried the above mentioned remedies but no joy as yet, so back to the drawing board. I had coolant get into the transmission and I run some fresh oil and ATF through twice the ATF is still in there looks clear now]. It was also in there before the hose went bust and seemed to work well. I have even fitted a M/C kit [ Green cap ]. Watching this post with interest. Cheers Taff
  15. Hi Bill, how's that for starters, I used a real name. I have always been baffled why folks on this forum do not use their names, some do I know, must be a reason I suppose. I am a member of a guitar forum (as I build guitars and do stringed instrument repairs) and everybody uses their name on that forum. I just think it's nice to be on first name terms with each other, moderators on the guitar forum ask newbies to use their names should they sign off with " dogsgutstromitter" , ok it doesn't meen a thing to me either. Cheers Taff
  16. We ride "observe/score yourself" and as mentioned you can't take it too seriously, I see little instances of points lost that don't show in the final tally. I've never heard of another rider challenging another competitor, its just fun and as the saying goes "we're not playing for sheep stations". Another way to do it is to ride in pairs and score each other. Any way you are really cheating yourself as the aim, I think, is to better your own score. Most infringements I think are possibly unknown to the rider. Cheers Taff

    Leaking Fuel?

Thanks again for all your interest. My mate it not a member so cannot chime in at this time. He has seen this thread and the replies and has referred them to the Beta guy here. He said Beta are sending him a modified cap, Stand by for the final outcome. Have a good one. Taff
  18. Hi thedbf, all of the above for me too since buying the bike two months ago 2012 Pro 250, warm or cold its a bit of a lottery. I did put a flat slide carby on and that has made it a bit easier more often. Used the iridium plug last ride, still a pain. I put it down to me. But still try different techniques when starting. Cheers Taff

    Leaking Fuel?

Thanks Billyt, hey we drink billy tea over here any way I'll get back to my mate for the answers. It might be time he took over this thread anyway might save some time. He said he enjoyed his ride today as could not smell fuel, he had run the hose far away from him, even so its not good to have fuel getting out of the tank on a 37deg C day. Cheers Taff

    Leaking Fuel?

Very funny, at least when we fall off we are the right way up . Regular super unleaded as always. The hose was the way you described but that's what took all the decals off the tank so was rerouted over the bars.. The bike runs real good and starts first kick. Cheers Taff

    Leaking Fuel?

Thanks for the replies folks. No its definetley the tank cap, short hose long hose fuel still bubbles out up the hose. Hose is up over the bars [as with most bikes] In fact it started with the original Beta hose from new. I did a Google of the problem and past the info on to my mate. There are many older posts where riders have complained about this problem with their Beta's, and one states that Beta have a billet aluminium cap available. I have found after market versions of these to suit Beta's. I think heat could be contributing to the problem, but why just this bike. I'll see if we can get some photos. Cheers Taff

    Leaking Fuel?

Hi all, the continuing saga of the fuel leak gets stranger. My mate [he's no fun to ride with anymore ] put a longer length hose on his fuel cap [clear this time] and put a loop in it to try to stem the flow. After a short 10 minute ride up a rocky creek we stopped to see what was happening and found that even at standstill with the bike on level ground fuel was coming up the pipe, you could see air bubbles rising, same as when bleeding brake/clutch fluid and fuel was all over the bike. The Aussie Beta dealer/importer has no idea, so my mate is contacting Beta themselves. I'll keep you posted. One suggestion was the summer heat up here in North Queensland but we dispelled that myth as he bought the bike in winter and still had the same problem. Mind you our winter is warmer than summer in the importers part of Aussie. His bike looks a wreck, fuel even melted his name plate on the front of the bike and dripped onto the fork sliders and set so hard it took some removing. Luckily he spotted it before a ride or he would be up for new fork seals. Cheers Taff

    Leaking Fuel?

Hi all, thanks for the reply's, I think I'll show my mate how to use this forum then can answer the questions. I know he's looked for cracks, played with O ring seals. When I had a go of the bike when new [as you do] my mate said" what do you think"? I remember my reply was "the fuel fumes are getting to me", and that's when bike was only a couple of weeks old. He did say he sees it pour out on steep down hills. Thanks anyway I'll pass this all on. Cheers Taff
