Thanks once again for all the help. I plan on a strip down mon./ tue. so will let you know what the outcome is.
For the record, when I first changed the oil to dextron it went from dragging to slipping so the oil made a huge change. Backed off the adjuster and it almost worked fine but it just as a very wee bit of drag now. maybe a few more sessions will clear thru the duff oil that was there and it will sort its self !!!
-
My clutch is dragging a bit so I am going to strip it and check the thickness and replace the plates to the right thickness, 9.75mm I believe. Just wanted to know what is the best stuff to clean the friction plates with and what is a big no no.
Did the dextron route and it made a big difference but stil a slight drag hence the strip down.
Any help would be great.

The numbers are way up on last year here, 80+ at every trial so far that Inverness & Dist. have put on . Great for the sport but a nightmare for parking at them !!

Thanks for the info it will help me loads and cheers for the link to the tech page, so much stuff

Hi All,
Just about to pick up my first gasser , 02 250 txt and would like some info on servicing and oils etc.
I know that it is more than likely been done here before but as I have always had Betas I have never read this part of the forum.
Type and amount of gear oil
Plug
Fork oil amount
Fuel ratio
and any other useful info would be great
Thanks in advance

It might have something o do with the 2 January bit ? usually takes me a couple of days to get over New Year 111
-
Just like to say thanks to all at IDMCC for putting on a great trial at Ardersier on Sunday. Great day out with well laid out sections although the second lap got seriuosly boggy !!!! on some sections but by the third its was fine again, (a few wee alterations to the sections) Good one to start the year with. Keep up the good work

Just a thought, have you checked the sprokets are the right ones. The drive sproket can make a hugh differance if it is to big, it is an 11 (I think) with the back 42.
I did a slight mod to the carb spring on mine and it made a hugh change to the power delivery, oh yeh, I cut off about 3/4 of a turn from it.
Don't know if this helps but good luck

New 4t Monteas at trial today and it is not that it is loud, more it sounds differant and not what we are used to. Much more throaty (if you know what I mean) so I don't think there will be a problem with loads all at once.
NIce bike with loads of controlable grip on the slipy stuff !
-
Don't know about this back, forward stuff as the petcock on my 97 faces forward so all the operations are to the sides as follows;
on; point to left of bike
off; point to ground
res; point to sky
and always turn off when you stop the engine or it will flood

Had a similar problem with my techno and started using PJ1 clutch tuner, great stuff. Chage the oil on a regular basis and seems to have solved the probem.
BeforeI changed to the PJ1 I did a major oil flush (with cheap oil) to get out all the old stuff, about 3 changes back to back did the trick.

Halogen mountain bike lights are amazing, way brighter than anything you would be able to hard wire in. Come with rechargable batt. and doddle to fit. I fitted lights to an older trials bike years back and it took to much juice from it and the bike ran like crap with them switched on. I would go for the mtn. bike ones.

My mate in Spain got one. Used to always be a sherco man but said that the Montesa was way the best 4T, but then is that no surprise
-
Cheers, I'll give them a shout next week
-
Was thinking of changing my bike but think that if I get my rear shocker rebuit it would keep me going for a few more years ! Does anyone know where I can get an exchange or rebuid for the 97 techno in the UK
-
Well with all the good things being said about the trial and how got what, are there any results in as it is near the end of the week and still zip !!
-
Crackin trial although I could have done a wee bit better. My thanks to all at the IDMCC for putting on a great trial and all in all a good day out. Many thanks to all the observers too
-
I'll be there with boofont and a couple others to make up our team, great place Alvie. With all the rain the moor will be soooo boggy shold be good for a laugh !

All the bikes of that age are all pretty reliable, although they all also have there slight down sides. You will here that one bike has this fault or this one has that fault but all in all they're as good as the next. The one that you should go for is that one you feel most comfortable on. Have a shot on as many as you can and I mean through a section or two not just bouncing about the carpark. Only then will you get the right bike. Talk to others so you know what to look out for on each model as well. Good luck.

The part inside the filter is a metal wire frame, it is there to stop the filter colapsing so a bent coat hanger would work fine. As for the plug I have found that the 'r' ones do not work as well as the ones without ie; BPR 6ES or BP6ES I us a 7 in mine without the resistor - 'r'. Get the right sump plug as it has a wee magnet on it to gather the 'shavings' in your oil.
-
As lineaway said, there is a good chance that you have fuel in the bottom end and this is the problem. Had very similar thing with my 97. Took the carb off and cleaned it and while it was off, took he plug out and the can off (to stop the fuel flooding into it) and kicked it over about 50 times. Put it back together and you are good to go ! wel it worked for me. Good luck

I know it is only a club trial but are there any results out for the last IDMCC club trial. Not that there is anything to win, it is just nice to know how you did. No point in using punch cards if you never get the results.
Not having a go as I know all the behind the scenes work is volunteer but !
-
My 97 Techno has had loads of mods since this pic, ie; bent bars, bashed can, 're-shaped' plastic and much more !!!!
-
I have ordered from them when I lived overseas (not in UK) and there was not reply etc. the stuff just turned up one day. If you had been waiting over a few weeks then it would be worth looking into how it was sent but I would just sit gazing at the mail box waiting
