The continentals don't come because they would get cuffed. No "continental" would have beat Lampkin or Dabill last week. They might be ok riding there rules on some nice grippy Spanish boulders. Suffering mild exposure, no stop rules a long way from home? Probably not as good as some seem to think they are.
  2. Welcome aboard, did a few season's MX myself and still have the pins. Stick to the trials, takes a while to get the hang of it but a good scene. Just get out and have fun. Cheers. P.S If you want a race Ian Duffus and Jimmy Storrar are in our club.
  3. Nae bother,I had a Gas gas that went into a Mk 3 Astra hatch. Only had to take off front wheel. Everyone should do this as it. embodies the spirt of Trials. Anyone arriving at one of our trials with a tricked out van or God forbid a Motorhome is bad form. The only real riders are those that ride to the Trial.
  4. Cheers lad's, I thought about Araldite but didn.t think it would like the heat. Will give it a go as the price is right.
  5. Got a wee leak in my radiator.(The Scorpa's not the one in the kitchen) Should I bite the bullet and send it away again for repair? Or, is there a cheaper option? Obviously being a Fifer I,m keener on the cheaper option. Replies from likeminded skinflints appreciated.
  6. Changed day's, Sir Frances Drake never had much bother with Bou and co's dad's. Rumour has it he even had a quick game of bowls between punchcard's.
  7. Last time any British youngster wanted to go to France was 1914.
  8. Things haven,t changed much. Reminds me of all our Trials, bad riding,a crash, followed by well meaning assistance which only makes things worse.
  9. Some great info folks, up here anyone and his dog can roll up and ride at our club (AMCA). Any new members are normally asked if they want another rider to take them round. Also we have a information booklet too. At our club I,m proud to say the social aspect is as important as the riding side. Happy Trialling.
  10. Hi Bony toe, West lothian seems to be a Trials Desert these day's. Must be an odd trial there but I can't think of any off hand. Plenty in Fife with us and the Dunfermline club both have sites. Maybe see you at the odd trial if you can get over the bridge.
  11. Sadly it's only the laudie this year. For certain he will be marshalling the bar at the Ben Nevis Hotel to an exacting standard. The riders will miss me,not many observers fill in all the holes and ride (five) the sections 20 times before they arrive. Don't tell Rab mind.
  12. Hi dbf, glad to see you've lost none of delightful tact. Or are you competing for the shortest post ever?
  13. I could tell you what the least worked on un-works bike is. My son's Scorpa 175F heading for marshalling duties at the SSDT.
  14. Going back to Dabster's post suggesting restricting the bikes wouldn't put any more bums on seats. Well I would say actually having a seat to put my bum on would be a good thing. Sitting on a 250F Scorp I have is akin to squatting on a gas stove.(lit)
  15. Still feel we're looking at this from the wrong angle lads. Really got too look at the bikes. Tyres, especially.
  16. Returning to the original stop/non-stop thread. I feel the whole problem has been amplified by the development of the bikes. Don,t you think a little thought about, limits on tyres, weights, suspension and power could be the answer?. Riders stop because they can stop and pull away again. A little less grip and stopping is suddenly not so attractive. It would be good to see the Makers and Governing bodies talking about this. Regulate the bikes, and I feel the stop/non-stop issue will go away.
  17. Speaking personally, there's sections where I go I won't even try on my modern bike that I happily cleaned in the 80s. Not much you couldn,t have a go at on a decent T,S. Sadly a high percentage of us riders are "getting on a bit", and it's the body not the bike that the problem. Just too stubborn to admit it..
  18. Enjoyed watching that, the slow mo shows just how physical you had to be then. Lost count of the times the forks ran through there travel. Don't think today's twin shock brigade would be too happy riding that section?
  19. Cheers,I feel better already, probably have replaced them by Sunday. Local dealer who's a pal, has Michelins though I favour IRC. Anyway thank's for replying.
  20. Was riding an 08 bike which I just bought. Had the original X1s on it. As I already own and ride an identical bike I was surprised how little grip (front and rear) the new bike was getting. Only reason I could come up with is that the tyres were old and had lost there elasticity for want of a better word. Is my imagination working overtime or was I just riding like a puddin' ?
  21. I stand corrected, they're great in stoppy start stuff.
  22. Stand to be corrected, but I think the main changes were the carb and the frame as well as the white colour plastics. I've ridden both and would say the newer bike feels a bit better but nothing to get excited about. Certain sections such as slippy streams, muddy climbs they feel great, stoppy start stuff heavy going though they ride lighter than they look. How I like it is up one tooth to 10 on the front and a mega fast idle, the opposite make it feel like a tank, also put the footrests on the rear position. An individuals machine, not for the masses.
  23. Hi ,hope you find one ,I know off only 2 up here. Think they may be quite collectable in years to come. I've got an 07 model and love it though everyone that's tried it thinks it's odd. Never had any bother with it ,access to the carb and plastics are poor. Also it's got a proper motorcycle engine not something from a flymo. Happy hunting.

Brings back memories, had a 250 in 83 and 350 in 84. Did the SSDT and the Scott on them and at the time thought they were great. A local lad was the dealer and gave me loads of help,in fact I think I optimistically entered a World round in Yorkshire on one, Never gave much bother, though the points ignition was a worry. Preferred the 250,but when the mono Yams came the writing was on the wall. Great job on the restoration,my pal has a similar 350 which I think he sourced in Austrailia. Think I would struggle to ride one now. All the best.
