  1. If our trials were televised they would view like Mad Max meets the Tweenies. Good point though, the old Kickstart was a great boost for trials. The sport seems to have outgrown it , If only trials had a speed element ?.
  2. Rabie, that sounds great,no doubt a few will convert to mainstream trials but I would consider that an added bonus. Our club tries to be pretty laid back having fun rather than worrying about scores and rules. As riders improve we lose a few to other clubs, as we only run novice trials that's inevitable. We always get more new folk to replace them. I feel this is the way to go,the populations getting older and fewer want to risk injury, older riders also tend to have more time and money. There's a lot of people out there looking for trials, they just don't know about it yet.
  3. I would be reluctant to criticise the makers as we don't even make any bikes here. You don;t need the latest bike to be competitive. If you look after them you get very little bother. Insurance?,it's £17 for officials at our trials and about £4 a rider . Like the sound of a trials holiday park but the boss goes on holiday to get away from trials . Land sems to be a localised problem Agree promotion of trial by importers ,authorities is grim and the clubs have enough to do..
  4. Wouldn't disagree with everything, but you may get the award for negative post off the year.
  5. Up here we have no real problem attracting "older riders",kids are a different story. I find with kids if they have a parent that doesn't get our laid back nature they don't last. Parents start complaining about trivia then go off in the huff never to return. The kids are always great but if we do get any problems there always seems to be a parent envolved. The ones that mum and dad just leave them to there own devices are never any bother. Do other clubs come across this?.
  6. The engines state of the art compared with the old Yam lump (real motorcyle engine) Thats the first thing most say"it's got the old sherco engine" underating I would say? How old's that Beta motor with the kickstart on the wrong side? Nobody mentions that.
  7. IMO a truly underated machine. I bought one of the last 2011 280s . Steers lovely with bags of usable power and totally stable. The other makers offerings may suit younger "trick" style riders but for everyrone else I would recommend it. And the best bit is no high rent suspension linkage. I feel the importer hasn't pushed these machines because supply may have been tricky. Shame there isn't more about.
  8. You really shouldn't knock any makers. Our track record in Trials machine manufacture of late is frankly dire. I have to admire these continental types that knock a half decent trials bike together in the back room. Wouldn't like to think what we would be riding if we had to come up with the goods ourselves.
  9. I know of one because a lad just up the road has it. (125 With the Sherco motor) Only really a colour change on the frame and new decals. Says it's only one of two in the UK. As for the 2013 photo call me a slavering B%$£^&". I had a good look at it doesn't really look right. If you check out the Eastscotland trials site there may be a photo somewhere of the said 125 with the orange frame.
  10. The word Budapest was mentioned in our coversation and how he came by the info is a mystery. If there are 2013 Scorpas in Blue/White call me informed,if not call me a slavering B$£%*£$. You choose.
  11. Last night a pal showed me a picture on his phone of what he reakoned was the 2013 Scorpa 280. Came in very tasteful blue and white livery. He downloaded it with great difficulty when he was on holiday in Hungary. Anyone know more on this?
  12. If a Beta frame cracked I'd think it would be tricky repair compared with the Sherco. These bikes are built to be light so no way can a maker build something that will stand repeated heavy use. Some riders would break an anvil so I wouldn't be pointing any fingers at particular makes.
  13. Easy one this,a stock 4rt bears no resemblence to TBs. An off the shelf Gas Gas,Beta,Sherco is not much different to the works ones. To be contentious I would suggest TB be lucky to score WTC points on a stock 4RT.
  14. . In my opinion it would only seem merited , if nothing else to discourage riders from blatantly abusing the Eligibility Ruling as the 5 competitors did at this years event. Cubette quote Cubette doesn't seem like someone to mess with. The phrase thrown out the gestapo for cruelty springs to mind.
  15. Try Heather Anderson at Dalmellington MCC. Tel 01659 50137. They run a series in conjunction with the Stevenson MCC. Obviously not in the same league as our Fife based events. Worth going though for a banter with Heathers man..
  16. Just paint the Ossa ones red no one up here will know the difference. Or,get a Scorpa with proper billet yokes as I call them as I'm not from Yankeeland. As I told you all makes apart from Scorpa are made from old baked bean cans.
  17. Cheers lads,a pal of mine had Graham up a few years back,I looked at his web and he looks very busy. He was also far to nice for us as we really need someone to tell us we're rubbish. Adamson might be ok if you want to learn how to ride a 1980 RL Suzuki, anything newer forget it. Gary would be brilliant, but I think he was approached in the past and was reluctant to committ anyway as he's the richest man in Kinlochleven(47 Sheep)he wont be coming on a whim. I like the sound of John Crinson though he could be costly as we will have to employ some Geordie/North East translator. Thanks lads,I'll work on it and apologies to everyone I've offended.
  18. Anyone know of any experts who offer group tuition and are willing travel/.(fife) Not really needing a big name . Any ideas.
  19. Very well put. I must confess I have only a very casual interest in the Championship, however I do actively support Trials. Dare I suggest that it may be time to bring a private promoter on board? I know this will be a kick in the teeth for all those who have given time and money freely over the years. I feel most people that run trials have a hidden agenda i.e prefer this type of event, rules rider,so someone with no issues other than to make a £ may be the answer.
  20. FB,Slick, get's a spray from Asda and he say's it cheap as chips. As you know his bike's always mint,he'll be at the presentation on Sat so you'll see him there. WD40,might work but you'll breath it in and absorb it through your skin, not nice stuff. (Hear it's called Flashdash, just a silicon spray£2.99 at B&Ms)
  21. Pretty sure he was British Schoolboy champ and mixed it with the top lads as soon as he moved up. Interested to find out why he left the trials scene.
  22. I hope I'm shot down in flames for this, having Trialed for 37 years in the East I can't name one rider from Glasgow. Dalmellington and Stevenson clubs are very active in the Southwest,Lanarkshire which really should be your local club seem to run trials anywhere but Lanarksire (tic) and the Loch Lomond Club really only run one Trial. Details will be on SACU site.
  23. Don't know about that frame No,but 05 has a bright silver frame,04 blue frame, earlier have gray frames. Forget wheel dates,my 07 Scorp had 05 wheels when new.
  24. My advice would be try to keep dirt away from the filter in the first place. Gaffer tape between the silencer and airbox, also airbox/mudguard. Make sure the subframe/airbox is siliconed at the edges. Also I put a thin layer of sponge foamround the top of the airbox/subframe to prevent any splashes dropping in the filter. If it,s really wet I'd also gaffer tape the edge of the mudguard to the subframe though it looks pants. Godzila is spot on with his advice, the Sy is a great bike but any carb maintenance is tricky. Also if you've just bought it drain the tank completely and start with fresh fuel.
  25. You really need to find a friend who's into Trials to help you if you are serious. There is an odd 250 Scorp with a 4 stroke motor but I don't know if they use the SY prefix. Very unlikely it's a 4 stroke and I wont go into details of the differences, contact your local club they are normally run by a bunch of enthusiasts keen to help a beginner out.
