    Scorpa 280 Sr

Got the above, anyone ever have to retard one or am i getting too old. It's not the initial pick up which is quite perky, but mid range is instant. Cheers.
  2. A free trial for first timers? Entry and day membership works out £12 at the moment which I don't think is unreasonable. As I said it's more the joining a club idea.
  3. i'm very selfish though and it would suit me to have a trial most weeks in Fife. As Andy M says travelling costs are the problem. Scotland is massive and there's plentyroom for 3 or 4 trials on the same day.
  4. Cheers folks, our membership fee is low too and it makes little financial sense not to join.(We ran 22 events last year) What I'm thinking some people just want to come and ride with no strings attached. Especially beginners that are not sure how things work. We do day membership,Nov/Dec as there's few new members then and don't want to charge the full membership for a couple of trials. I'll have a look at the English AMCA Trials sites (Were AMCA) and see whats what. The licence is a separate issue, and we've not had any members complaining about costs. I just want to encourage folk to come. .
  5. Do any clubs offer day membership for there closed to club trials on a year round basis. If so has this resulted in any increase in entries.
  6. Had a few Scorps, still do. I think from 07 on they fitted a heavier flywheel and upped the compression, but I stand to be corrected. The earlier ones dont seem so punchy even if they have lighter flywheels so i assume it's a better set up. It will never run like a gas gas at the top end so I would make sure it's in good tune and leave it stock. Pehaps fresh reeds and a fresh piston if you're feeling flush. Gearing,4t up at the back sounds too much,1st gear will be redundant,2t would do if you ride a lot of tight stuff. Great bikes,.
  7. Don't encourage him you'll regret it.
  8. Loved it,,like last of the summer wine but funnier "I'm going down all the time" did it for me. However,I wouldn't laugh too loud as I may be in a similar position soon enough. Cheers.
  9. It's new! One thing I do mind is anything that envolved roadwork or fast trail work make sure to run it on choke. Seemed to run too hot and you could nip them up. I think I fitted a heavier and wider sumpguard, and extended the clutch arm. These were the day's.
  10. I had a 250 in 83 then a 350 in 84. Don't mind of having any issues with them,6 speed box and the kickstart was on the right side, also started in gear. Preferred the 250,big one had a dense/dull power delivery. Both managed the Scott and SSDT. As for oil? unlikely I ever changed it,just guess at the amount,I would. Have fun.
  11. Couldn't agree more, really a new bike is a way of avoiding reliability ,maintenance issues, improving ones riding is more of a perception. I always thought when the ty mono arrived in about 83 the majority of riders never could match it's potential.
  12. Aye couldn't agree more with penno. A modern lightweight bike with brakes that work is the way too go. I mean this in the nicest possible way,no one normal rides these old bikes.
  13. I would say make sure the cable run has no kinks or just badly routed. Give it an oil too,I use 3 in 1, I assume the throttle is a domino plastic type and once they've done a bit work it's hard to get them really clean. For £15 you could get a new one. I'd try these before cutting. Cheers.
  14. Try it with the filter in place, but clean it and very lightly oil it first. If it's ok then something must be restricting the airflow unless as you mention the main is too big? Don't know sizes off hand, someone will already have them on the site. There isn't any homemade rubber flaps over the airbox?
  15. You make me hanker after the old day's when half a jar of engine oil to a gallon was my rule. Bikes didn't run very well though ate plugs and smoked like chippers. I've an 05 SY,it's happy on 70/80 ml oil per 5 litre using synthetic. I wouldn't say these motors are too oil sensitive as i've known others to run much richer mixes. Hope you've discovered the root of your problem. PS if it isn't give it a try with the mudguard off, some aftermarket filters seem too thick and restrict airflow?
  16. Mmmmmm, How rich exactly? Be honest now. And what oil?
  17. Disgraceful behaviour! Riders enjoying themselves at a Montrose Trial? Does Geordie know? That club will be giving away free soup and cakes next. Can't anyone be serious anymore?
  18. Hi Matt. This always seems to be a popular subject for debate. To me 70ml of semi/semi-synthetic oil seems ballpark. Be careful to mix it properly. Never noticed any measureable differences in fuel types. As above says, keep the carb clean which means good filter maintenance this is a must if you want the bike to run well and last. Happy Riding.
  19. Cheers jfc,we do work hard at it. The club is only 3 years old and in the middle of nowhere. Last year we had about 200 members and I think we ran over 20 trials. We,ve had over 80 at club trials and normally get about 50 entries. There's no pack drill, just turn up and ride,if your new someone will go round with you Seems to work.
  20. jfc,I don't mean to down anyone, it seems to me it's just the way things are playing out. I deal with youngsters on a daily basis,at our trial yesterday I coached 2 youngsters before the start and took another 3 round with me. We,ve started loads and they get a great deal from the club Even to the extent of loaning bikes. At 49 you can't think like a kid,you can only do so much and hope it works.
  21. I see where you're coming from Baldilocks. A few sensible changes to the bikes would sort a lot of problems out, Sadly everyone want's the" best "even though next to no one can ride them anywhere near there potential. Unbridled bike development is the reason the sport is so fragmented.
  22. OTF,I really don't know if it's just a trials thing or I'm getting too old but getting youngsters to committ to anything let alone Trials these day's is hard. Times have changed and we live in a world where instant gratification is the way of things. This rails against trials as you need to serve a pretty long apprenticeship. When I started out in the 70s all I did was Trials and the lads riding with me were much the same. Now?I see more committment from over 40 beginners than a lot of youngsters. When I hear the well worn phrase youth is the future I,m beginning to question it..
  23. I only jest,at our club I call them friends,
  24. No, I bet they all belong to a club. It's def got derogatory undertones. Thing is the club I help run has a Clubman route. Used to be called the yellow route which was worse. Can't use it anyway as we use red and blue markers now. If my wife won the clubman route that would cause problems? Especially as she can't ride. Time for a committee meeting.
  25. We're all Clubmen,sorry I want that word banned. Wouldn't swap my 280Sr for Bou's montesa.
