Oh right . I thought I saw that that oil was ok on another forum . Oh well! I was just looking through the new subjects and Am quite interested in the Sherco 4t trials and thought id take a look. The Eastbourne club (EDMCC) are holding a Good Friday trial at my local great bit of land in rush lake green. This is the coming Friday. All the local clubs are invited including gest. Start at 11. Are you coming to this?
-
and yeah that oil will be fine , there not that fussy
-
haha oh right sorry about that...
i have nothing against the bike. if your happy with it and it runs nicely then not an issue. apparently they go abit so maybe i could have a little go on it after
cant really think of who you are haha theres a few guys on old monts whats your name?
-

the factory bike has a few "trick" bits on them like the ohlins shock and keihin carb. they ride nicer than the standard ones providing they are set up ok. go for it so long as it is clean. make sure the engine is nice and quiet and he has changed the oil regularly. look through the sight glass . if it is white the seals have gone and would need the water pump renewing. there will be a rattle when the clutch is out at idle. it will go when clutch pulled in. check bearings and genral wear items. i believe that year had a weak gearbox. although if its been going fine for the last couple of years the dodgy bits have probably been changed.

the cota 200 was sorted ages ago and sold of for good money to a collector , its now in safe hands haha . the ossa is locked away in storage at the moment. almost certain the carb is a 627 therefore must be this? http://amalcarb.co.uk/carburettor-for-a-ossa-trials-8139.html
??
-
sorry, i know what you mean by berlun. found the amal website. there have about 10 mrk 1 carbs . all look the same to me. which one is fitted to my ossa? http://amalcarb.co.uk/mk-i-concentric-series/600-series/base-line-specifications/26mm-bore.html
-
ok thanks for reply, want to keep it standard. who is berlen and how can i contact him/her??
-
hi, we have a 1975 ossa 250 MAR . its nice and clean but we cant get it running. this is because the original amal carb is shot. needs a whole new carb. the current one is all scored and the float bowel does not join properly and you can see light between the gap. would like to get an after market one on it. just something that will make her run nicely. the ossa we have is where the carb bolts onto the cylinder and not into a rubber boot which some do.( apparantly this is rare?) it also has no choke and just a primer which pi****s fuel everywhere. please can someone point me in the right direction for a new one and where i can get it?
many thanks!
-
yeah if those bolts are alloy then change them straight away. the heads will either round of or they will snap leaving you in big trouble. go on to the PROBOLT website and order some titanium ones or stainless steel. the red bolts look wrong on that anyway. order some black ones they will look alot better with the red sprocket. and then fit some black s3 rim tapes and your bike will look mint
-
go for it. the 250 does not have the keihin carb on there fore wont be as snappy and will be nice. i got my new 125 2015 sherco 3 weeks ago. the shercos have improved an awful lot in the last couple of years. they are great bikes.
heres some tips for maintenance:
when washing put a bung in the exhaust so you dont spoil the packing with water.
take the airfilter out and stuff a clean rag down there so you block the hose. then clip the cover back down ( this takes seconds) you need to do this because it is very easy to fill the airbox up with water as the intakes are at the top of the frame and open. i have used this method and my airfilter is still brand new and i have done a couple of trials and lots of practice. also theres not a drop of dirt in the air box.
fit an inline fuel filter. again really easy job takes a few minutes. just put it inbetween the pump and fuel tap. take the fuel hose of and cut out the right length and clip the filter in. this will stop mud and grit getting in the carb and engine eventually. it is really easy if muddy to get mud in the tank . tape over the cap when riding if muddy. take the stand of as this can clog up the swing arm with leaves and mud slowing the rear wheel down. again just like with any new bike you should go over everything and grease the bearings after a few rides, along with bolts like the fork clamps and wheelspindles. from new this year they seem to have a good enough amount of grease in already so like i said you can wait a few rides for this. i would change oil after 2nd ride. any more questions just post. good luck your love it!

im 15 and from the south. ( east sussex) . retro trials, me and my mate who also rides with me agree that sections like in the pictures are the funnest for us to ride. would of had a pop at the youth A route on my 125 had mum and dad not been on holiday !! :/ butser looks like a brilliant place. the top guys locally like tom moss and mark cottingham say when they go up north to yorkshire or wherever that people down here dont realise how good they are on their rocks and stuff. no wonder they where abit surprised when they came down here and realise what we have. proper no stop sections those. yeah sure some of the cambered bits where abit much but the climbs and decent looked great.

i dont seem to recall the fan coming on much before though and it also put a tiny bit of steam out before. no electrical work other than kill switch re wired in. theres no current coming up the yellow wire!
-
hi all,
been out on bike after having it being sent of for a service, its come back and ive ridden it and the fan never comes on and also it got so hot that it was bubbling and throwing mist out of the top of radiator. thats when i noticed the fan wasnt working and also the lights on front, and on the rear mudguard where not working. got a friend round who is a good mechanic and he has done a couple of gassers. the two wires in the grey coating coming from the stator up to the electrics where tested for current. the yellow wire which is for all the power for the fan and lights etc was dead. absolutely nothing. he said the stator needs to be rebuilt or new one needed, has anyone got a second opinion on this? could it just be the wire is broken? the bike is only 7 months old so would be a shame if stator had gone
cheers

lol im still on original filter. cleaned every other ride properly. why should i have to buy new ones when i can clean it? do they loose effectiveness or something? new to me haha. to be honest its probably a few more hours than that! during school holidays always going places and trials. airbox sealing is pretty good but may make a flap to put infront of airbox because it seems to take in alot of mud sometimes. 100mls of global racing oil (gasgas factory) to 5l of supreme unleaded. (99) will get a vid tomorrow.
i saw another post of some guy with a 250 gg with similar hours but a few years older which lost compression and they recommended some new rings. on my bike you can push the kick start lever down from the top really really easily with just a hand.
the noise sometimes is quiet sometimes gets louder. its not too bad but would rather have it running sweet
-
As I said the bike is ridden all the time. got 200+ Hours on it . And that's high revs in mud. Just want to get rid of the noise and look after it .. Not trying to be the next Alexz wigg
He did the whole season on one top end? Really?!
-
hi, had my 125 gasgas 2014 for 7 months now, loved it. it has been ridden pretty much every weekend with tons of practice inbetween.
although power still seems good the top end is begging to sound like a bag of spanners. think its time to freshen it up with new piston and rings or just rings? my question is what is the best piston to buy? looking for something that will last well just like the one in it now . i have looked at the s3 piston and that looks good. has anyone used this piston and can comment on how it lasts/power? was also thinking of coupling this up with an s3 high comp head and keihin carb for the spring and summer. other than s3 and standard, i cant seem to find any other makes. please could someone with some experience let me know what they think is best.
ps, i know people are going to say that just ride it and dont worry about noise... lol im not worried about it i just prefer my bikes to run spot on and sound good and run faultless.
cheers

call this guy, he will definitely have one in stock . http://www.allensusedtrialsspares.co.uk/

sherco 290 is actually 275 i think....
the 290s i have ridden where very pokey. i think you would be right at home on a 300 gasgas . i have had 3 of them and im 15 and 65kgs haha . awesome machines.
and yeah the sherco didnt really change between 04 and 09. only minor differences. they where alright from 2010 on but still only ALRIGHT because they are still a sh**co
i should run ... quickly ...
-
simple. just remove the bolts holding the end can on. then take out all the old stuff and repack with either stringy or flat sheet packing around the baffle and re build. welcome back to nice soft quiet power and tourque
-
i dont think you will notice much difference between your new x11 and irc other than it wont come of the rim. never got on with x11. they are way to stiff in the mud we ride in. when its cold they go even more rock solid. next time go for an xlite mate. well worth the extra money! . i dont measure my pressure either. i just let most of it out just so i cant push the tyre to close into the rim
-
you need to run the bike and ride around till fan comes on. this will heat the oil up which will make it thinner, there fore you will get more oil out. put the bike on its side and shake it and pump clutch lever. once nothing else comes out refil. put in 350 mls to start. then hold the bike over on its left hand side to allow the oil to flow through into the other side of the case. then put it level and start it up ride around then put it back on a stand or something. ( riding it around will insure the oil has been thrown around is equally distributed) once on a LEVEL stand look at sight glass. should be about half way or said above just under. if not then top up and repeat above process. i suggest you yourself get on it and ride it using the clutch alot. for instance pulling away in 3rd with high revs etc. do some thing like that just to load the clutch up abit. do it a few times.slip the clutch. hope you get what i mean. just try to wear the clutch in a little. because i doubt your son would be stressing the bike enough to bed it in. i wouldnt try adjust the clutch pack itself. they come the same on all the gasgas pros and i havent heard of anyone with an issue from new dragging.
just try wear it in!!
have you got the master cylinder set up correctly? read my previous post about adjusting it to give you more leverage. where abouts are you in the country? if your not too far i could come have a look for you.

my grandfather had open hear surgery in 2011 at 82. he was missing a valve or something his whole life it became more apparent as he got older. anyway long story.they took his heart out and they kitted him out with an extra valve, from a lamb... put it back in stimulated it with electric shocks and off it goes. hes now 85 still extremely fit. up and about everyday , chainsawing . mowing lawn out for lunch. splitting logs. incredible considering his age. he occasionally has goes round the garden on my 125. loves it
you and your heart will love the feeling when you Finnish your first trial and start cleaning sections! good luck let us know how you get on!!

my friend and i ( both 15 ) always take time to stop and say thank you and have a general chat, in fact this is the case with everyone at the local clubs we ride at. its just plain rude not to even say anything! always got to have abit of banter with the observers!
after all they are out there helping the clubs in all weather conditions. without them the clubs would struggle. there not there to make money they are there to have a good afternoon and enjoy watching the riding and help out to try and keep this dwindling sport going. believe it or not i have observed a few times haha .
-
hi and welcome to trials! we had an 07 125 ( exactly the same exhaust as yours. ) when we where learning the sport we also bent it upwards to the point the airbox wouldnt sit back properly. we got a blow torch( really really really hot one ) it depends in what way you bent it? up down left right? but heat the whole rear end can where it joins to midbox. it should get hot enough for you to be able to ( with alot of force ) push in the direction you want it to go and straighten it up. ours did not split or crack so yours should be fine also. last resort if you cant get that to work is to just cut where it welds on and re align it all and weld back on. if your mad you would buy new silencer for about 500 squids from gguk. ( rip of ) so first call for me would be phone richard allen ( http://www.allensusedtrialsspares.co.uk/ )
he breaks bikes for spares and always has parts in stock. this week he just got an 04 raga 300 which he is breaking up . give him a call and im sure he will sort you out with a new rear silencer.
luckily because your on the best bike made GASGAS the pros have alot of interchangeable parts like the silencer. any more questions just ask
