I thought that I read or heard that the M92 had a different cylinder head design which gave it a more aggressive power delivery than the later bikes and that the 159 was also a bit more aggressive than an 199A?

Hi Zee,
Is that a Honda CR style tank? Did you have to remove the original rubber cup holders on the frame for the front of the stock tank?
Thanks, Scott

Nice looking bike.
I don,t have any modern Ossas so not much help, but from what I have read on here I,m sure there are some upgrades from later model years that might help.
Just ask on here and explain what it is doing and you will get help.
Welcome to TC.

That turned out really nice Todd! Would you be willing to share any details about the build?
I am working on a trials Ace 100 over this winter and have a Wombat waiting in the wings that will also be built as a trials bike.
Thanks Todd for all the info.
You have put a lot of work into that bike and it shows.I think I have seen pics on the web of another TL/Hodaka at Hodaka Days that left more of the frame there and the TL tank. There are a lot of cool customs out there.
The Ace based bike will be for my daughter to learn on and if she doesn,t like it it will get more mods for me to use,The older I get the more a smaller bike sounds good!
I like the DT tank and I think that might fit a Hodaka frame because I have seen the Carke YZ tanks on Combats.
I have an enduro cross reed cylinder to go with the Wombat project bike, but I might stick with the stock piston port cylinder, not sure just yet.
Thanks again!

The cases will have to be split to remove the shift shaft. Here are a few pics to give an idea what it looks like.

That turned out really nice Todd! Would you be willing to share any details about the build? I,m curious what gas tank that is and how you did your exhaust, motor mods etc.

Welcome Dave!
I have a friend in GA.who rides a Bultaco.I believe he will be setting up or helping set up for an AHRMA trials in Washington GA on 3/11/17.
I would say the best things you could do to the TY are good tires and shocks. Also maybe a good flushing, fresh oil and new springs for the forks.
Good luck and have fun!

I just wanted to add that I did not come up with this idea on my own.I had filed it away in my decreasing memory banks from a story that lbhbul (Larry) had told me about doing the same on a sherpa t many years ago and it is still running on the same lighting coil.
When it comes to electrics I am about as ignorant as they come, but I am learning.Just another example of how much help this site can be and how it has led to some really good friendships.

I was out riding a couple of months ago and she just went dead.
Working on it as I get time I replaced the points and condenser.Still nothing.
So next I remove all but the primary coil and rewire with all new and still nothing.Tried a HT coil that I had from a Suzuki and still dead.
So yesterday I put the old lighting coil in place of the primary coil and bingo,we have spark!
I still have to get it out to see how it runs, but I thought it might be of help for a cheaper fix if it has not already been posted.
Cheers and merry christmas to all.

Thanks again for all of the pics.Lots of nice looking bikes that you would never see over here.
The Triumph twin is a real beauty!

Contact Alex Snoop in NY for parts and info.

Looks like a really nice place for classic trials. Also a pretty good variety of bikes on hand.
Thanks for sharing the photos.

While looking for some longer bar mounting bolts I found 7mm bolts at Menards.Might be worth checking to see if they have the lengths you are looking for in the correct thread pitch.

Well done, she really turned out beautiful Ralph!

Well done,beautiful bike!

Yes David, the shocks are longer. They are set up pretty soft with a fair amount of sag,but I see what you mean about them aggravating the problem. They do work really well though!
I happened onto an old post yesterday about KT250 mods and you had mentioned how the stock KT bars were higher than 6" Renthals. Are they quite a bit taller, like maybe an inch? Might have to email the fellow in NZ to see if he still has some.

After do a little more riding in the yard today and studying the pic of me standing on the bike I think that the extreme bar risers are not the hot set-up.
When going over some logs if the front end dropped suddenly it would yank my arms and whip lash my neck some what.I think it is because I,m too upright and my arms have no bend in them to absorb this?
My home-made risers have a 3.5 rise so maybe the store bought two inchers would be better.I know it does make the bike look pretty silly with the set-up I have know.
Another suggestion that I,ve had was to have the top yoke machined so that bar clamps could be bolted straight on top which would allow the use of taller fat bars.
Thanks for the input.

Figured that I would stir the pot a bit and post some pics of the bar risers that I made for my 199a.
The riding position with my 6" bars would still result in pretty bad neck pain after a half an hour or so of riding due to a really jacked up neck from arthritis, various injuries and probably 30 years of operating heavy equipment.
It is now pretty comfortable to ride.It doesn,t seem to affect the handling too much, but I,m a pretty novice rider and don,t try any big steps or splats.
Switching to my brothers 199a with 5.5" bars when riding yesterday I can notice that in certain situations the risers do affect the handling in a negative way,but not a lot and I don,t know if I have much choice until I get my neck fixed,if thats possible.

Here in the states contact Alex Snoop for any help/advice or Ossa parts. If you have to split the cases just be careful and pay attention to what shim goes where and it probably wont need re-shimming unless you rebuild the crank. If so that would need to be checked for centering it in the cases.
The MAR is the one trials bike that I really want, but haven,t found one close enough yet or at the right price.
Good luck and chime in with any other questions.

You really need to buy a Bultaco 5-speed shop manual. It will explain and show everything step buy step and be there to go back to when needed.
When I did my first one it made it a whole lot easier.
