  1. Thank you to everyone for all of the input.I have wanted one of these for decades and don,t ever plan on selling it so I guess keeping it stock isn,t a real issue. I do agree with Glenn, the main thing is to get out and ride it! Merry Christmas to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Thinking about giving my 199A a face lift over the winter.I,m kicking around going to the 199B color as the A model is just too much blue for me.If I do should I cut the rear frame loop off like the B ? It does look better to me,but I kind of hate to ruin the originality of the A.In my thinking the loop also helps keep a little rigidity back there also.My other color scheme idea is silver frame, red tank and side panels with white fenders. Any opinions are welcome. Cheers, Scott
  3. Jon v8,how do you like your converted frame compared to when it was original?
  4. Guy,I have run Wisecos in my Pursang and haven,t ever had a problem. It gets hammered on pretty hard and has turned some pretty high rpms with a missed shift here and there. Also, check out Wossner pistons from Germany.I don,t know if they make one for the Bul,but I purchased one for my Maico and it looks to be very good quality.
  5. Not sure on the later model ones, but on the older 175 Alpinas I believe a 250 top end will bolt straight on.It would cost more, but you could find a 250 cylinder and save the 175.I,m guessing either way you would enjoy riding it.

    My New 175

That is a very nice looking bike!! I,m sure your daughter will love it.
  7. Hi bultacorock, Thanks for the input.I guess I should say that what prompted my question was an interview with Bernie Schreiber that I read.It made me wonder if he could have done as well in 1982 if he had been on a Comerfords developed Sherpa T, like Vesty was riding, as he did on the SWM. I have had two different Rotax powered enduro bikes over the years and know they can make very good, smooth power.I do agree that our 199A make great power.I also believe that the Bultaco is the easiest bike to work on and all of mine have been very reliable. Your bike is looking really good and best of all you are out trialing it! I wouldn,t mind finding that style airbox if for no other reason, they look the best. What type/brand of top yoke do you have?
  8. Thanks for the reply feetup.Kind of makes me happy that the Bulto is a close comparison because I,m such a Bultaco fan.
  9. Another question to those who have ridden both. Were the SWM bikes of 1981-82 better than the last Sherpa T? Maybe just a matter of opinion, but if they were was it by a big margin? Did they handle better or have a better power delivery? I have only ever ridden one around the yard of a friends for about 5 minutes so I couldn,t really tell if it was loads better then my Sherpa T.
  10. Very cool stories from everyone! Beautiful Greeves bigplonker! Nigel, funny thing with the language differences. When I first scrolled down and saw your reply to nistua I thought at first glance that you were calling him a fag - as in a little light in the loafers!Yes I know I,m a bit slow, but I had to think for a minute before it came to me that you ment a cigarret.LOL.
  11. I wish that I would have started in trials 40 years ago! I guess better late then never at all.I did get to ride a KT in a trials a couple of years ago.My opinion doesn,t count for a whole lot due to my limited experience, but I thought it was ok,but not quite as good as my TY.
  12. I just finished reading an article on Don Smith.I really admire that era of riders because many of them did it all as far as develope, build and ride well. I don,t know much about Greeves other than I like the unique looks and would love to try one out.It had a picture of him on his newly debuted 1964 SSDT bike that he had modified and extensively lightened. I,m just curious what the production one weighed and if anyone has an idea as to what his modified bike weighed? From what I,ve read it seems like Mr. Smith would have been great fun to hang out and ride with as well as learn from.
  13. A way to check if the chain is running straight is to put the bike on a stand and spin the wheel. Then check to see if the chain is centered on the sprocket or running against one side of the teeth and adjust accordingly.
  14. That looks like a pretty good area for sections.I hope to get down there next year and ride it.Congrats on the second place finish on the two line and the advancement to the one line next year - nice ride!
  15. Looks like you have a mikuni, but not sure.My 1970 Plonker had a pretty loud rattle at real low rpm - ended up being a very worn slide in the IRZ carb.
  16. That is a nice looking bike Greg.Did he build the airbox and silencer? Also, where did the swingarm come from? Thanks, Scott
  17. I read about converting Hodaka trail bikes into trials bikes. They had done a few different builds and found out that anything less than 24 degrees on the head angle was not good and I think 24 is what they said seemed to work best.Don,t know if that helps, but maybe a starting point? I would maybe try it like it is and then go from there.Cool project.
  18. Can t really say much more than ditto robbies post.Happy late birthday my friend!!
  19. Very well done torj,I enjoyed watching it. Thanks for posting it.
  20. Steve, just for a heads up,I think the person in Wisconsin gets about 250.00 - 300.00 per hub to do the steel liners.
  21. Steve, way to persevere and finish! It turned out very nice .I,m sure someone else with a bit more knowledge will chime in,but I,m wondering if it could be a carb problem.
  22. Sorry to sway things off track a bit. Thanks for the pictures Stuart. That is a really cool car !! Having seen my brother do a couple of ground up car restos I know that it takes a lot of work and it is looking great so far. Thanks again, Scott
  23. The tank turned out superb Larry, nice work. Twinnshock,I,d like to see a pic of the 1935 four wheeler if possible.
