  1. So is that saying that TC only covers small club trial events these days ?
  2. Nobody has answered my question, why is there no comments on TC about the Pre65, SSDT or World rounds, does someone else have a monopoly ?????????.
  3. Am I missing something about TC. I cannot find any 2022 world trials results or SSDT daily results on Trials Central. Yes I'm old and past it these days but why has it all got so difficult. If I go into the SSDT website all they have is up to 2019 results and yes I do know there has been a pandemic happening for the last two years. Can anyone put me on the right track for the SSDT results at least please. TIA
  4. Personally I would like to keep the original lower legs of the Cub forks but need some modern internals to provide some more movement. I'm limited in facilities and know how to build them myself, hence the request here for assistance, Someone must have a set that have been replaced by something even better ????
  5. Hi Folks, I'm an ex Midland centre ex pat living in Australia and need a bit of help with my Cub forks. At the moment they are heavy duty forks with external springs and very little suspension movement. I don't have the knowledge of what Cub owners are fitting to their bikes in UK but keep seeing the words "trick forks". I know guys are fitting all sorts of internals but I don't have the facilities to carry out these mods myself . Can anyone help with a pair of modified forks to fit standard Cub yokes and front wheel please. I'm happy to pay the market price and all expenses including postage to Australia. I prefer to be contacted on my email, twinshock2@gmail.com or through Facebook messenger to keep information private. I rode all trials in the Midland centre from 1960 to 1980 with Solihull MCC and Sutton Town MCC. There aren't many riders from those days still riding apart from Ray Barrett who I rode with in the 2013, 2015 and 2018 Manx Classic 2 day trial. If anyone can help with a pair of good/modified/trick, Cub forks I would be truly grateful and look forward to hearing from someone who can help. Mqny thanks Roger Galpin
  6. We have them in Australia, general opinion is they are very nicely engineered compared to other Chinese bikes and the electric start is very popular. Problem at the moment here is nobodies buying trials bikes due to floods, bushfires and Christmas and we are in our closed season, it'll start moving around February .
  7. It will be difficult to ride it in Classic events (Pre 65) as it is a 70's twinshock model.
  8. I'm a 73 year old ex pat Brit living in Australia for the last 40 years and still riding twinshock bikes in competition. I felt good enough to ride the Isle of Man Manx Classic 2 day trial September last year but I think my enthusiasm exceeded my ability especially when the weather was the worst in the history of the event, cold rain, thick mist, high winds and thick mud, I wasn't comfortable !!!. I crashed in a creek on the morning of the first day chipping the bone in my forearm, the nipple came off my front brake cable just after and when I pulled up at the first day lunch break the nipple came off my clutch cable as well. Both cables were fixed with solderless nipples but never felt the same and I lost confidence in them as well. At the end of the first day I was in the Douglas hospital getting my arm checked out, not broken, so ok to ride the second day, surely the weather couldn't be as bad,,,,,,, but it was worse, front wheel was blocked solid with mud and the wheel wouldn't go round it was a real fun day but I made it to the end. Realisation kicked in that I was no longer capable of riding a big trial like that again. !!! Riding my first trial back in Australia I came off the bike and landed on the same forearm chipping the bone again in the same spot, I've had a left hip replacement, laser eye surgery , cataracts removed, new lenses fitted, right shoulder reconstruction and recently carpal tunnel syndrome surgery on my right hand, and now fully fit again. Rode a trial last weekend but came down a grade for an easier ride and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Give it away if you aren't enjoying it anymore, be aware of your own ablility and don't be stupid enough to tackle something where you could get hurt, play it safe
  9. Many thanks for the replies guys, event selection looks highly complicated. To be honest the same old type of sections event after event is starting to get boring and I've said it before, someone is going to get seriously hurt eventually, its happened to Mr Bou twice recently. Do the people who support these circus style events really think it helps sell bikes.... !!!????
  10. I'm a few miles away so I don't always catch the up to date news so be gentle with me,,,,,,, Where is James Dabill in this seasons X Trial championship, is he injured, retired from it, or just had enough and will he be riding the WTC ?? Look forward to a response Galps
  11. I'm more interested in the BSA Goldie on the left in the background. !
  12. There's a great pic of Dougie up to his petrol tank, still feet up in a creek circulating Australia.
  13. Hi I'm in Brisbane. The first place I would try is your local Honda dealer, you never know !!!!
  14. G'day folks, ex pat from the Midland centre now based in Queensland Australia for the last 38 years. I spend more time working on bikes these days than riding them, TY Yamaha's in particular. I think its a general problem but all the bikes I see have some level of rust pitting on the stanchions. 1; Is there a sure fire way of fixing this problem besides getting the tubes hard chromed which costs more than most TY's are worth over here. I've heard epoxy resin or araldite can be used and smoothed down but how successful is it ? 2; Where can I buy new stanchions from in the UK or anywhere else, TY175 in particular. 3; Coming to ride the Manx Classic in a few weeks (no 199) and will be based in Birmingham if anyone has a good pair of 175 stanchions to sell I would be very grateful. Any advice offered I will be a happy old trials rider. Thats it from sunny Brisbane Galps
  15. He wants to cut the hub in half Graham and fit a spacer in the middle to widen the hub and then weld it all up and paint it so that you cannot see whats been done. A popular Bantam / Cub mod,,,,, stick to your Bully's
  16. G'day folks from Brisbane Australia I'm riding in the Manx Classic in the IoM this September on a Cub and the thing I worry about most is getting a puncture and fixing it in the best and quickest way possible so I thought I would ask for some advice here. Besides carrying all the tyre levers and spare tube around for two days is there a kit you can recommend that will hold a low pressure tube around the sections and tracks of the IoM for two days (worst case scenario). Please be specific, whats it called and where do I get one and what is the cost. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, this is my last attempt at the Manx as I am now 72 and I really want to finish to get my finishers mug, which costs me $5000 each time . Incidentally is there anyone older than me riding this year ????? Galps
  17. Hey Dan Try the Aussie website because there are some very helpful guys on it, https://trials.com.au/. Don't forget the cricket ball tampering, they haven't forgotten or forgiven us for the thrashing we gave them in the Ashes series, goodness knows what info they might give you
  18. Just shows how wrong you can be. I only comment on these sites when I have something constructive to say.
  19. I sold the other one as I was too nervous to fit it.
  20. I'm not asking people to name names, has anyone else had the same problem or similar. OTF,,, peg the liner ???? , can you briefly explain how this can be safely achieved or contact me privately.
  21. A few years ago I bought a couple of brand new oval alloy barrels from a supplier who shall be nameless in the UK and fitted one to my trials Cub. After about two events it had smoke and oil spewing out all over the place and required stripping. I found that the liner had spun in the barrel which misaligned the oil drainage holes resulting in the problems I experienced. I tried contacting the supplier who ignored me completely and I would add that the supplier wasn't UPB, AWR or Armac, but he is well known around the UK. Can anyone tell me if this problem was rampant or was I just unlucky getting a couple from a bad batch, I have always been afraid to use the other one that I bought off him. Is the problem ongoing or has it been fixed, I have heard of other problems such as warping, siezing and excess oil burning. For the money these alloy barrels cost you would hope to get better service out of them. If my supplier wants to contact me to offer a solution or anyone else wants to talk off air, twinshock2@gmail.com. Cheers
  22. Good luck to Dennis,,, the usual bunch of lucky guys who get an entry every year must have lots of friends as well !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. Don't bother with the Pre 65 Scottish as it is for British and European riders, USA doesn't qualify !!!!!. I tried to get an entry a few years ago but it was pointed out that I am not eligible as I live in Australia. I turned my thoughts to the International Manx Classic 2 day event in the Isle of Man and was welcomed with open arms. I rode it in 2013 and 2015 and have been accepted for 2018, a truly international event and a great bunch of people organising it.
  24. I won the novice award in the 1964 BMCC James Trophy trial and have an entry already for the 2018 Manx Classic 2 day,,,,,,, that will make 54 years of trials riding, can anyone beat that ??? Sorry to get off the subject.
  25. I was one of the earlier contributors to this topic and there have been numerous others all bringing up their own thoughts on why entries are falling. Sorry,,,, but as much as everyone means well on these forums (or do they ) nothing will happen or improve until someone gets off their a*** and does something positive and don't tell me, "thats ok to say that buts its not that easy" ,,,, true. These days I live in Australia for the last 37 years but I was a rider in the midland centre before I left and I still go back to UK to ride the Manx Classic 2 day and I will be riding over there for my last effort in 2018. When I come back I ride BMCA events in the Midlands, 3 lines, great trials, great people great venues, 30-40 riders each trial common sense severity. In Aussie we had a group of people totally dissatisfied with our governing body (same as ACU) so we started our own unaffiliated trials club, SQTA (Southern Queensland Trials Association)10 years ago and we are still going strong with an average of 50+ riders every event, moderns, twinshocks and classics. if we could achieve that in a country as big as Australia then surely there are enough guys in UK to set up their own club, affilliated or non affilliated and make your own rules, section severity, entries etc etc. Problem is, having a nucleus of 4/5 guys to get it going, but as they say ,,,,,, "If things don't change, they'll stay as they are" TTFN
