  1. Saw a couple of 4rts at our local trail on Monday, been sparyed up yellow and Blue all trick bits on them, I noticed that the exhaust cover on them was like a silver Carbon fibre....looked very nice and god knows how much it must have cost to get them looking that good.
  2. Cheers for that, Saunders did a test on both on that mag and said pretty much the same.....anybody got any info on the oil burning thing ?
  3. do all these mods mentioned and to think, you'll have a GG that looks like all the other GGs' out there
  4. Hi Guys Spotted a 175 Scorpa yesterday and it did sound rather nice, having owned a 125 version I was wondering if the 175 (I know it's only 143cc) version is much better? I can recall some issues with oil burners on the 175, what was wrong with them and how id they fix it? I did like my 125 but I must admit it could have done with a bit more power, second hand 125s are going for about
  5. bluenorth, try this guy, he'll sort you out with anything to do with TY's and I know he does quite a bit of overseas posting etc http://stevegoodemotorcycles.co.uk/index.html
  6. Nice work on the clamps, did you do it youself ?
  7. Hi Jeff, as you say the rear mount is fine, just removed the thick rubber pad that goes under the plastic tank, I used a shallow domeheaded allen bolt with a large washer (to spread the contact area) I found if you used a normal 10mm hex bolt the seat would not fit on properly. As for the front mountings I just got some of the larger dia foam pipe lagging and cut a 3inch section out, place this over the top frame tube and trimmed it until the tank was a snug fit with no side to side movement and make sure you have enough clearance for the top yoke when on full lock, then zip tie the foam in place...I put mine just behind the coil. If you wanted to do a pukka job you would need to buy the OE Yamaha tank rubbers and drill and tap the frame in the correct place and then bolt the rubbers to the frame.....the pipe lagging works fine for me :hat: hope this helps

    1985 Ty 250

Hi Brucej Sorry mate, can't be of much help, none of mine have ever done it....pretty sure all of the ones I've have (1985 to 1991 models) have been std bikes....I've used petrol / oil ratios of anything from 50/1 to 80/1 mix and std plugs. I have had detonation problems on the more highly tuned engines of modern bikes but the old Yams just keeps on running,I would try a fuel additive and check out the ignition settings first. Happy new year

    1985 Ty 250

I,ve had quite a few TY's over the years and I've never had one do it yet..even my current Pinky is sweet as. Sounds a bit OTT to have the head machined, I'd check out igntion, carb spec etc before I work the head...
  10. Thanks there BS...don't worry mate I was waiting for the punch line (nice one) Are you riding the S/Shrops event on the 2nd??...apparantly you will have to ride for either SS or Briedden hills ....wells has been on the phone and managed to get hold of Dougie Lampkin, Graham Jarvis and if he's passing fugigas........oh, I think the other lot have Roy Danby or someone
  11. Cheers Alan, I'll put the feelers out, it is quite bad isn't it Beats the hell out of me how folks can get the things into such a mess in the first place ! looks like it's been thrased with a hammer
  12. Cheers for the replys guys, here's a couple of pics just to show you how bad they are. Someone has suggested drilling a hole opposite the dent then knocking it out from that side and then welding the hole up ! I can see me trying all of the above mentioned methods before I fork out the
  13. I must admit John I've got a WES 'go' silencer on order (been waiting 2 months!), the original one is still in very good nick and does still sound quite so I'll leave it one until the WES comes. The bike feels very nice to ride now I've got used to the footrest / H/bar position after riding modern tack...found it really good on muddy / greasy climbs in the trial today...just back that throttle off and feed in again and it's grips for ever. To be honest on the route I ride these days it's just the job :santawink: the only downside is I know of another one going for
  14. Cheers Monty, I guess 100% of Yam bits are still available off the shelf the seat unit was the dearest at a tad over

    Weight

Liked my 2002 model, didn't think the motor was that brill (and I'm a Yam fan)my mate has an 04 model which did feel better than mine. The exhaust note on his did sound more mellow, so I'm guessing mine could have needed a repack (but there sealed!)..the only other downside was they do feel quite long..again all personal pref stuff. Top QA on the cycle parts, only the Mont's have the edge an the 06 model do look very very nice :hat:
  16. Anybody got tips on how to get dents out of the front exhaust pipe of my TYZ Yam ? the pipe is seamed and there are about 4 big dents all over the pipe a couple of the dents are on the seam. I've been told to weld both ends up and heat the 'dent' up with a blow torch, and also to weld a nut on the dent and use a slide hammer to get them out etc etc. I'm not too bothered about a perfect finish as long as it looks better than it is now..any thoughts ??
  17. Cheers for that Andy, it's been a while since I've posted any pics...have a good un over xmas :hat: Hi fivemeister, Stripped all cycle parts down, plastic coated the frame, new tyres, mudguards, seat unit, handlebars etc etc. Just replaced the little end and piston rings in the motor as everything seemed in very good order there. I do plan to do some work on the engine after I've done a years worth of trials on it in 06 It'll be competitive enough for the riding I do these days , always nice if I can beat a more modern bike on the same route though merry xmas guys
  18. and lastly, the next project awaiting funds and TLC
  19. A few pics of my pinky, non std tank and non std colour rear guard and seat unit (never did like the 'pink' colour scheme!!)
  20. Speak to Atom Ant, I think he's just sold one.
  21. Nightmare!! started off with fine wire wool..no good...rough wire wool...no good....1200 grade...no good...750 grade..no good.../emery cloth....a slight colour change but nothing to shout about **** it ! I've got hold of a Metal tank off an S model which needs a petrol tap, I think I'll get that to fit and try to get hold of tank cover for the plastic tank
  22. I'll try the wire wool thing Martin, I don't think the tanks stained all the way through. I think its uv staining, you can see where sone transfers have been on the Tank and the plastic is still quite white under them.
