2002 TXT 250, very good condition, recently bought and quite engine at the time of purchase.
First trial and the bike developed what sounded like a 'little end rattle' from the top end after a good thrashing over the fields between sections.
Replaced the little end this weekend but the noise is still there, bore looked good with no lip or visible marks, Piston looked good with no blowback from the rings.........I'm a bit stuck now.
The bikes a minter, I doubt it's done much work at all.......which pretty much rules out piston slap I guess.......any ideas guys?

If I get 6 years out of my boots I'd be more than happy
-
Bloddy ell, thats a tidy machine, wonder how much shipping would be from Japan to Europe?......got to be another grand at least?.
-
Cheers guys, didn't know they were made in Turkey , still couldn't be any worse than LDV vans that were made in the UK .
I did think about a full size transit over the connect but I'm not sure yet......I've just recently got rid on a Vauxhall combo, great on fuel but a little small for what I want.
Good to hear the reliability is good, my mate has an 02 plate Mondeo, nothing but trouble with the engine so far, I was wondering if it was the same lump???.
Cheers once again guys.
-
Looking at buying one in the near future, seem the right size for the trials bike and there pretty cheap.....55 plate vans going for just over 4k.
Any problems to look out for, engine's, gearbox's etc etc??.
Cheers
Mark

I guess this is one of the reasons why folks are swopping aircooled mono's over to twin shocks!!!!! I wonder if it will sell at that price?

I see the frame was pulled after all, I think the TLR Hondas are lovely little bikes, I've had a few of them in the past when the price's were in the real world.
I must admit the thought of spending 3k on a machine thats 25 years old is a bit much of my pocket.
-
I did email the guy and he pretty much admitted that he never actually sold the bike in the first place, it didn't quite make the money he wanted for it...hence second time around he upped the reserve.
I was going to report him to ebay but I could be a***d in the end, again, thats ebay for you...out of 250 transactions I've only had two bad ones, not too bad in my book.
Funny enough, I've just gone and bought a 2002 txt 250 edition off my mate, looks like I've got the bug again after a few years lay off !
-
I won a nice TY Mono on ebay ages ago for a good price but the seller said he'd already sold it before the auction end.....I wasn't happy......even more so when the gezzer was selling said bike again 3 weeks later with a higher reserve on it.
Saying that I've had some real bargains on ebay, bikes and tool etc.
-
My god, nice to see some pics of my old mono, sold it about two years ago when I packed trials up.
I'm getting a twitch to strart up again though but not sure which way to go yet, my mate has got a pinky for sale but I quite fancy another SY 250......decisions decisions
-
Looks like it's got a xl250 (trail bike) engine in it (twin port exhaust port)......different I suppose
-
I think it was the South Birmingham club that used to do the Vic, are they still going? would be a shame to lose that land on the Clees
-
Cheers for the reply Scorpa3, I take it then your club is running the event?....good on ya mate for keeping it going at least.
I've rode it several times in the past, if not to ride I always would try to get up to Clee hills to watch the event...bit of a tradition if you will.
Shame you couldn't have used some of the ground up on the hills though, maybe in the future?
Cheers

No one knows nothing?...must be political then
Shame if this road trial has gone the way of the Dodo! the Clee hills must be some of the best trials ground in the midlands bar none.
Hovis, made me chuckle not bad for a taffy apple!
-
Looking forward to following the Vic Brittian round the clee hill this weekend only to find out it not a road event at all now and is being held in Farley Quarry of all places
Used to be good to follow the boys around the Clee's......is the future of this trial going to be off road only?
-
I try these days not to buy an brand new model, they all seem to have some sort of problem.....+ having a **** load of kids has put paid to buying new anyway!!
-
I don't think it says anywhere its a GG promo vid doe's it? nice job by the owners and he seems to be doing very well for a 100cc lump.
Great stuff
-
Just wondered how many venues have dudley club got ? they seem to hold alot of trials at the old mine....I like the old mine in the summer, but it can be a bit if s***hole in the winter months
-
I class my TY as a classic, as I do my VFR750, both are a design icon for there age....no need to wait 25 years....
-
Sounds like it could have been messed around with, you'll have to strip the carb and check the jet sizes with the OE...alot of Yams get 'tuned up' not always for the better.....I'll get me manual out and check the std jet sizes
-
I had mine chrome plated from new, I know some platers wont touch an exhaust if it's been run on a bike......in the past I've found most high temp paints are very poor, even worse on the super hot front pipe.
-
Might be something to do with the 4K+ price tag
Only kidding, lovely bike
-
Man, that 4stroke looks the best of all the 4 bangers (even the new rev!) how many are out there I wonder? don't seem to hear that much about them........lovely looking machine
-
might in fact be the correctsolution.
wish i had a pound for every time you've answered this topic Nigel
Wouldn't be so bad if it were the RIGHT solution
