    Factory 300

Factory beta has significant weight saving components over standard like magnesium casings and titanium exhaust plus better brakes than standard I believe. I actually rode a 19 factory recently and the suspension felt fantastic. Excellent choice of bike that novices and experts alike can enjoy equally plus very reliable.
  2. Definite problem with the components on your bike, I owned a 15 and 17 factory beta and remember the front brake was good and the rear as someone suggested was weak. If the pads get contaminated in any way that causes glazing then throw them away and start again. There is no way you should require two fingers or to exert the pressures you infer. I believe the 19 factory rear brake is improved from the previous years as is the front.
  3. John Lee motorcycles deal with Bosi I believe.
  4. Thanks again for taking the time to reply and for the details. What you say makes good sense and you're right to say there are additional charges applied to rural Scotland. I'm impressed, you speak gaelic….
  5. Was looking at the bosi website earlier which is based in Italy. Just wondering if any UK based beta owners have bought from it and how they found them to deal with, plus how reasonable, or not, as the case might be, was postal charges etc?

    Oil

It's good to hear you're own personal experience is positive, that's the sort of info that helps fellow riders make decisions. I am confident I heard rumours from more than one source that nano oil was causing clutch problems on evos. Maybe someone that has experienced the problems alluded to can comment.

    Oil

I heard the opposite, I heard the nano oil was suspected of causing clutch problems on the evo.
  8. Thanks for the answer, your experience is exactly the kind of info I was after. My thoughts were the bike is good and I can't see there being much difference. I have ridden bikes with all the brand name components but this bike feels right to me, I think I'll take a chance and see how it turns out.
  9. Not trying to start one of these silly which bike is best threads, honestly! I know it's a futile exercise. I am however intrigued to hear trials peers thoughts on this. I have predominately ridden Gassers for the past five years with a vertigo and TRS thrown into the mix. Today I had a quick go on a 19 factory beta and I have to say it felt incredibly easy to ride, it was a 250. A mate was studying it and saying its a 16v shock in contrast to the latest Rieger/ohlins offerings of leading brands. It doesn't have the latest tech forks etc plus the design is prehistoric. Now I know they have been around a while but I also know they are reliable. My question is, are the components used in this bike inferior to other brands and how significant are the differences in direct contrast? I don't personally like the colour scheme if I'm honest and was set on the new 19 gasser GP but I have to say I'm more than impressed with the Beta. My head has been turned which surprises me. I know the standard answer is buy what you like but I feel I need some broader advice. Can anyone out there understand why I'm thinking like this after riding one? I know this model doesn't look radically different to previous years but it is surprisingly nice, Tell me why I should stick with my original idea to order a GP.

    19 GP.

This explanation is the exact reason I asked the question in the first place. Ever since TRS came on the market people rave about the brakes and the braktec callipers at a glance look universal.

    19 GP.

Does anyone know if 19 model GP bike will use the same front brake as the TRS Gold edition?
  12. the dabster

    Trs gold

really nice bike to ride the TRS, not sure the gold model is the best looking bike out there though but everyone to their own. I believe the front brake is very good and the 19 gasgas GP will have the same brake, does anyone know if this is the case?
  13. I think it has the ability to 'float' transversely which helps keep it centred but if the sprocket can move through the direction of rotation whilst the shaft stays still then you possibly need a new sprocket,
  14. yeah my 18 was perfect initially and then it felt like it was getting pumped up via the blade as I was riding it and the clamping point became weaker. When I dressed the fibre plates I overdone it and ended up buying an aftermarket clutch and was then introduced to how critical the pack thickness was etc. Due to change bikes now and keep getting drawn to the new factory beta, wouldn't repeat these clutch issues again but gasgas appear to have redeemed themselves with the change to Kevlar, hence my original question. I remember now it was the coolant pump that was leaking on some of the 18's and some thought the coolant was affecting the fibre plates and others attributed it to certain gear oils. who knows, the only thing I do know with certainty is it is a major PITA and bad enough to make me consider jumping to beta. Be good to know how you find the new clutch when you have tried it.
  15. Thanks for the info and the picture. I probably didn't word my question as well as I could have. I have had a new one myself every year since 13' and never had a problem with any of the clutches till this current one. I thought I imagined the lever getting stiffer but I'm also bothered with tendonitis so didn't think much more about it until I tried the clutch on another bike and realised there was a problem. I spoke to someone knowledgeable about it and he inferred quite a few 18's had this problem and advised me to dress the fibre plates on fine wet and dry as they were swelling? I also know someone that does a lot of work on trials bikes and he confirmed he had done quite a few. There was also some info about the composition of the fibre plates having less asbestos which was replaced with an alternate material that was proving absorbent. Sounds feasible enough and certainly concurs with my experience. Add to this the switch to Kevlar and it all makes sense.
  16. Evening, Wondering how the guys that have bought the 19 gasser with the Kevlar clutch are getting on with them, There was obviously a problem with the 18's and I wouldn't replace with the new model unless they had made this change. The 18's had the three way adjustable ring but I'm not sure it worked as it should have, is the 19 clutch adjustable via this method and how is it adjusted and to what effect? Also is the front brake better on this model than last years?
  17. No I bought two brand new combats. Well engineered, build first class not sure if they are too clever but I was too scared to repeat the process. to be fair I have seen them go fine for others but wasn't my experience unfortunately. Then again they have honoured a lot of repairs on a local bike I have seen so pay your money and all that. My confidence went, never had a beta or a gasser that behaved like that ever and they are equal if not better to ride according to some so the bottom line is it comes down to personal choice. My thinking is the bikes are all so good now why would I risk the unpredictable nature of one particular brand. The other factor for me was I lost a fortune when selling which has a bit to do with the way the bikes were rolled out, that has been mitigated slightly by the introduction of some dealers now.
  18. I had similar experience, great concept, I was really excited but never quite ran right, gave up in the end. back to conventional fuelling no probs since.
  19. Would love to know PS settings using Tech forks and Rieger shock. New TRS with this set up and it appears that even with the spring wound off on the shock there is no sag? Also agree with backing the fork compression off, Haven't checked my out now for factory settings but will be taking compression off for sure. Please let us know the PS settings if you get them, it will be interesting to see his preference.
  20. Yep, told the barrel and piston were black as if overdoing the oil ratio which I wasn't, they then said I must have been riding the bike like the district nurse would if she rode trials..... told to rev it much harder!
  21. Sorry Bluey, just seen this today. Gasgas stripped the bike and said the rings were gummed up and expanded when hot, exact same symptoms as you. I was told to use putoline mx5 or mx9 two stroke 65mls per 5 lts.

    Strange Noise

    front sprocket needs replacing?
  23. as above, if you took the main jet out and put air through the carb you could blow the brass needle guide out which would give you these symptoms, easy done.
  24. no pictures but you can take my word for it two bikes fit in the manner I have suggested, done it several times with tools tyres and two sets of gear. Your van must be the older shape.
  25. I have the smallest version combo 16 plate takes two bikes comfortably with bulkhead in place, one facing forwards and one backwards.
