  1. Hi jfc. The tyres are great! The front is washing out a lot less and the bike feels better across cambers. I still manage to spin the back wheel, but the bike has improved in mud especially when using a higher gear and low revs. On average I use the bike twice a week, around 8 hours in total. How often would you change the tyres? Every 6 months, 12 months? On another note, I can finally afford a new clutch case for the beast, a much needed mod
  2. Thanks guys for the advice and videos. I think I didn't have my weight far back enough, more weight on the outside peg. Maybe too high a gear. And I need to work on full lock turns. But before all that, slow speed control downhills. I need to trust my brakes and front tyre a bit more! Thanks, Heather
  3. If you enjoyed yourself in the novice class stick to that for a bit. There is no pressure to move up, for the majority of us trials is just for fun. When you want more of a challenge, move up in your own time. If you get a chance to after the trial finishes have a go on the route above you and see how you do
  4. Hi all, Had a good practice session this morning. I've bought a set of flags and have been setting up sections where I practice. Very good way to train by the way At any rate I set up some gates on a 2nd/ 3rd gear hill, rough going with stones, humps and bumps etc. Included several turns across a camber. I could clean the section going up hill but hit a bit of a brick wall attempting it down hill. Any advice for turning down hills? Panic set in, I tended to brake too hard on the front and sit down. I feel like my weight is too far forward and I'm going to fall inwards and down the hill. Where should your weight be when turning down across a camber? Is it wise to go full lock? Or be able to stop during the turn? Fear of heights also seems to kick in a bit and I panic. As usual any help appreciated!
  5. Interesting thought. What about fujigas though, different suspension set up? It would be interesting if there was an event where they were all on the same machinery, a bit like the r6 cup or something. I think Bou would still win the majority of the time though
  6. That's mint mate! I've seen a guy doing clubman style sections on a gasgas pampera, impressive stuff! It can be done!

    Leaky Carb

Thank you , thank you, thank you! She's back together again and the throttle is returning properly.
  8. I've just bought 20 markers from trialendurodirect.com 4.38, I can't remember how much the postage was. I am concerned about falling on one and spiking myself. I've bought them for practice purposes. I was thinking of wrapping celo tape to the tops of them or I might try steve_earles suggestion. Going to try them out Saturday.
  9. Same here, they are even more tiring with the engine off, haven't quite figured out how to balance properly whilst hopping. Lifting the rear wheel isn't too hard, it's figuring out how to move the rear wheel sideways. Rear wheel hops don't feel that safe on wet ground though. Probably better off with a well executed full lock turn most of the time

    Leaky Carb

I'll get an inline filter, my friend with the airline said it would be a good idea to get a new valve too. I've cleaned out the airbox whilst at it, it needed it for sure. I'm having trouble putting it back onto the bike. Am I doing this the right way- needle valve in first, then metal clip, then spring, then throttle cable? The throttle isn't turning right. I am not good with mechanics, I am trying, but I tend to get into trouble real quick! So I hope this isn't a dumb question

    Leaky Carb

Thanks for all the advice. I'll take the carb down to a friend who has an airline. I had the carb out and cleaned around 2 months ago, perhaps it's down to riding a lot in mud, streams and wet weather. The last couple of rides she has been a bit harder to start and hasn't run very nicely low in the rev range. The addict, with all the scaremongering about fuel injection bet you're still glad you haven't this kind of issue, 7 years, heresy I say! And don't worry, I'll heed the safety advice Dan, I like my hair and eye brows as is haha

    Leaky Carb

Thank you, unfortunately I don't have an airline, but I'll try my best with what I've got. Ok, cool thanks

    Leaky Carb

Hi guys, I went out today, fuel only lasted half the time it normally does. I found the bike leaking with the fuel switched on out of the carb, as pictured. It was only the outlet circled in red that leaked, the other hoses did not. I've been practising launching the bike off a 3ft drop off and jumping it using banks, could landing hard have effected the floats or the needle valve in some way?

    Gas Gas Future?

Anyone got any more news about gas gas?
  15. Then maybe try to go last or near the back in the first section? The crowd usually thins out a bit if it's a 10 section trial. I'm only a beginner myself I've done around 6 or 7 trials, and I still manage to stall in the first section first lap most of the time, haha!
  16. Have you ever actually talked to the observers? They are a really nice bunch of people who watch and score us lot mucking about for 3 hours or more rain or shine, without so much as a thank you from some folks. I've gotten advice from an observer after a trial about where I could go to practice. Don't take it all so seriously I think it's the flags and the rest of the crowd that bring on the nerves as much as anything else!

    Gas Gas Future?

Dupont looks like he broke his bike in this video though, but then again how many people jump their bikes from that sort of height? EDIT: Around 30 seconds in
  18. No worries Yeah 250s can be a bit much sometimes, I find my 200 is the best of both worlds, with more torque than a 125 but not intimidating so you can open her up. You'll find a big difference between a modern 125 and the TL. The ideal beginner bike would probably be a beta evo 200, but you don't see many used ones about. If you do plump for a 125 go for the latest year possible as I think the trials companies have improved the power across the rev range over the years. Plus used 125s are usually from youth owners so they can be subject to a lot of abuse. The ideal find is an older owner who prefers tinkering to riding, haha. It's a easy trial on the 15th so no silly sections, you'd be more than welcome to come watch and ask about, trials folk are a friendly bunch in general. Hopefully see you there
  19. Hi Roger. Check out this site http://www.welshtrials.com/ they've got all the ACU events on the events tab, you can download them. Contact details of several different clubs there too. I would advise don't enter a trial that has 'championship' as a title as your first trial! South wales is excellent in that there are a lot of beginner trials down here. As for practice areas they are few and far between, but if you can become a member of a club and get chatting to the members they'd probably know farmers that you can approach. There are training days throughout the year with Project 2000, they even do bike hire so if you wanted to give it a go before taking the plunge it might be a good idea, here's a link to their site, http://www.trialstrainingwales.com/ For all abilities. The next one is on 21st March. With 2000 you could probably get a really tidy 2010 to 2012 bike, but it's a good idea to spend a little less on a second hand bike so you have spare money to get the bike to suit yourself. All the makes have their problems, just browse through the bike specific forums on this site! 250cc will go anywhere you want to go, 125s are good too but in some ways are more difficult to ride as you have to work the bike more. And a nicer bunch of people you couldn't hope to meet, from observers to organisers to riders, at least that's been my experience. Hope that helps, Heather
  20. I wear sixsixone soft mtb knee pads, they are a tad bulky but do a good job protecting my knees and shins. They've saved me some pain and bruising, particularly from the footrests several times. Once you get used to them they are pretty non intrusive. I was wearing some cheap thor slip on elbow pads, but they started to irritate me so I don't bother now.

  22. For an adult a 125, 200 or 250 would be fine. They just require different riding styles, 125s feel light, you really have to rev them to get the best out of them- their only problem is that they lack torque. I've got a 200, best of both worlds, has a nice amount of torque but still feels light, plus it's still fun rather than scary to give it a full throttle blast now and again. 250s are easier to ride in some respects, having ridden my friends 250 beta you don't have to use as much throttle or body English as you have to on a smaller bike. But it can catch you out! And of course all the makes and different years ride differently. For example a Mont 315 is a totally different bike to ride to a txt 250, despite being the same capacity. All this is just personal opinion of course, I'm sure you'll get different answers Have you got any other off road experience?
  23. Usually I change the gearbox oil once a month, check the brake and clutch fluids once a month too. Check the coolant once a week, and everything else after the bike has been cleaned. Probably too much, but at least I know everything is at the right level on it
