  1. I have always used BR8ES plugs, no problems. I would say that there is dirt in your carb, doesn't sound like a plug problem to me.

    Tyz New To Me

Is the cluctch sticking permanently or just dragging? I know that all of my Yamahas that I have owned have clutches that drag when the bike is cold, when they are warm it is fine.
  3. I found this after searching on google for it, I saw it on channel 4 last night. After seeing what I was sure to be a ty250s falling off a beam on the advert I had to watch it. That was when my dad remembered about watching kickstart when he was younger, but by that time he was into trail bikes so wasn't interested in trials. http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=...885468051222934 Is that format of competition still around? I woud have loved that, dab as many times as you like and go flat out!
  4. I found this website a while a go for TY350s, my plan was to adapt the mods on there for my 88 TY250R, but I haven't got round to it yet. http://myweb.cableone.net/bcanderson/Mods.htm

    Ty350 Oil

Over here in britain we can only get 95 or 97 octane petrol, so that's what I run mine on. No noticable difference in my bike, just the price.
  6. Thanks for that hughesy, do you know where I can get it ported and the inlet shortened? I'm not sure if I'll go that far yet, I might just restore it, as it is a completely original UK bike. EDIT: The reason I am thinking about taking it out to 270 is because it is already .50 oversize, but now I have read you comments I think I will go for .75 or 1.00 oversize.
  7. Hello everyone, I am planning to rebuild my engine later on in the year, and was wondering about a few things. I am going to give it a new big end and little end, along with main bearing etc, the plan is to do it all at once then I won't need to strip it again for a while. If it needs a rebore, I want to take it out to 270, but I also will want to get the inlet shortened and get the head and the top of the barrel machined down a bit to raise the compression. I have heard that Birketts are the best place to get this done, but do they have a website I could look at? If not does anyone have a phone number to hand for them? I also have a very large amount of modifications to do to the rest of it, found here http://myweb.cableone.net/bcanderson/Mods.htm, these are for the TY350, but I think that they can be adapted for my bike, right? I don't plan to do them all at once. I will leave the carb until after my newly rebuilt engine has run in properly. I am going to modify the footpegs, rear shock (extended and preloaded), I don't think that there is anything else, but I am bound to think of things as I go along. Thanks for any help in advance. EDIT: I was wondering how much you think this is going to cost me, I can get any engineering fabrication work done for free, the only mod I can't get done is shortening the inlet manifold, as I can't get aluminium welding done.
  8. If you get TMX then look for ellastone offroad, they must have several complete bikes in bits there. Bear in mind all of the bits are second hand though.
  9. Having heard that, i might just mod mine... It needs a big end/little end and i can get the inlet shortened for free, so i might get it done. The problem is getting the cash though, I have recently taken up push bike trials, its so expensive!
  10. Run on 50:1 mixture, about 10psi in the front, 4 in the back. The only way to clean up your tank is to repaint all the plastic, I bought a tin of white bumper paint and it did all of my plastics with about 5 coats, be warned though, it falls off the tank after a few months, because the petrol seep through the plastic, which is why it turns it yellow in the first place! Clean the plastic really well with thinners and mask off any bits you want to keep, like the seat pad or your stickers. Hope this helps!
  11. Just thought that I would report back, it stil looks much the same and has a new rear tyre and grips really well, I have also installed a new throttle cable.
  12. I think that it was only the 250 mono clutch basket that fittes, the 350 was the only other mono and (so I believe) had a larger clutch. If you look in the back of T+MX there should be an advert for ellastone offroad, they will send you one, and they usually only send good quality parts.

  15. Try Looking at the Man17 website: http://m17.nlw2k13.userarea.co.uk/Trials_P...ials_venues.htm This shows Hawks Nest which has to be the best place to practice around here.
  16. You could stick the grease nipple end in a metal working vice and use a socket set wrench and slip a long pipe over it to give you more leverage, or if this doesn't work hack saw most of the nut off, bearing in mind you will need a new nut and bolt so this is really a last resort!
  17. That means it could be kicking some of the lixture back into the carb, try raising the needle to let more petrol in

  19. try powder coating it but putting carbon fibre protectors on where you legs are going to rub, i've seen this done a few times and it lasts for ages, or get it anodised black
  20. Yep I'd go for the pinky every time, but make sure its sorted though, I know a few people who have them which never seem to run right. altough no-one else seems to bother with the fuel damping washer in the float bowl... get a pinky if you want the best ty, they had a better front brake system than the earlier Rs.
  21. i just took 40% of the weight off the outside band, but i had access to a lathe.
  22. That look great! looks like you have spent some serious money on that, howmuch was the sticker kit?
  23. I have extended clutch arms on both the ty250 monos that have owned, on the first it was longer but straight, and on the second it had been bent round to maintain the distance between the end of the cable and the slot in the clutch arm. With a recently re-oiled cable they can be made as light as a modern bike.
  24. Yes it seems a great buy for spares at 285, but what spares? everything sounds absolutley knackered so what are you going to use?
