  1. Hello flower I would like a book and DVD, do you take American excuse
  2. I rode a Beta 250 four banger in the Tera Nova in your part of the world, didn't do too well in the results because I arrived at all the time checks too early sporting a big cheesy grin, the four strokes are great for trail riding and you will find yourself shifting gear half as many times you would on a two stroke, stick with it a while all the posts above are correct.

Does look a bit of a task trying to work that one out, mebe it should just be pass or fail, if you pass through the start and end gate you get a pass, if tha dun't it's a fail.
  4. One thing that does bugger shifting on any bike, had to have a word with my lad about this, click em in gear not stomp em. Hammering a trials bike into gear with a big boot tends to spread the tangs on the selector making it harder to find a gear and also leads to it slipping out of gear. Not saying this is the problem with above machine, but having ridden many found the gear shifting to be good on the Sherco as a rule, Honda motors probably do have the best shifting of any trials bike in my opinion, but finding neutral on the 4RT while running is harder than the Sherco.

I think the NATC have done a good job with the US series, catering more for the majority of riders and not just the top few. They also didn't just follow what rules the FIM adopted and often waited a year to see how changes worked before making them or not. The US has a couple of very good riders that could of made the move to Europe and probably showed some respectable rides at world level, but I suspect in reality it wasn't worth it. Distance is the big killer over here, amount of time it takes to travel to event's does effect entries but the places you can ride and spend camping are second to none. I can't see the US going full no stop because most clubs run the same set of scoring rules as / NATC and seem happy with them.

Keep in mind Dabill or any other rider making a living at the game will do what is in their best interest, can't blame them I would too. Those making change for the good of the sport probably look at it in a more benificial way for the majority.
  7. I agree with your posts Dan. About 12 years ago when TA was the main trials site Andy, could of been running it then I can't remember but I did a survey on both TA and Todo trial asking nothing more than what age of rider are you, then as now the majority are over 40, the young riders are for the most part in the game because dad sponsors them and most kid's like to copy dad. the age group from 20 to 35 was the least supported and I would put that down to sex, booze, no $$$$$$$$$$$, wife, new kid's and or new home. Times are tough but one would think a low cost motor sport would have more appeal in tough times, so what is keeping old riders from coming back or new riders starting?.

This could of been sorted many years ago, but in an effort to keep people happy many rule changes were applied many times to try and accomodate the ever changeing riding styles and machinery of the few at the top, as I see it the only options for the ACU and importers, follow the same old path in an area which is dying on it's feet or follow a path that seems to be doing better for entries and participation. I would think the importers see more potential growth in the no stop events than they do in hop until you drop side of the game, and that is all it is, a game.

"1: THERE IS A GREAT BIG WORLD WIDE MONSTER RECESSION 2: LIVING IN GENERAL COSTS A LOT MORE 3: FUEL COSTS A LOT LOT MORE (OVER 50% INCREASE IN PAST FEW YEARS) 4: BIKES COST A LOT MORE (50% INCREASE I THINK SINCE 2008)" Those were the days

Spot on Rosey, after getting a bit tired of jumping through hoops organizing nationals etc, I clicked down a couple of gears and stuck with event's at local level. It didn't really matter what the scoring rules were, I just set flowing sections, the less markers the better, and if a marker became the obstacle it wasn't used, often points lost by the top riders was more than they would drop in tight hopping sections, but the rest of the field failed less sections so their scores were better. one of the arguments against the rule change is the sections will be too easy "scrub the practice lap"

In today's economy anyone who puts the cost before the earnings ain't going to last long enough to make change. Amount of new bikes, versus new punters, you can shuffle the numbers all you want it doesn't add up.
  14. The so called argument used to give this site a bit of charater, good or bad many would log on just to see what had been posted in the last few hours. Maybe the character that gives people a reason to visit and post to the forum, is what is missing in todays trials events.
  15. They had some nasty high winds out there on Friday, Johnny three sheet's could be long gone.
  16. I think this is it right here!! members putting on events in our local club once said a very similar thing "if we want good riders we need a lot tougher sections for them to get better on" after seeing the effect this had on entries it was too late many riders had been scared off for good. I bet you get p****d when you see banks and companies getting bailed out at your expense, I see the world championship trials in the same light.
  17. Fact is! even if everyone agreed that major change is needed, no bugger has a clue what to change. I would think the most important group to keep interested is the over 40 brigade, they are the ones buying the new machines either for themselves or their kids.
  18. Keep in mind that bike was special, it only weighed about 200lb
  19. Over the last twenty years trials has got bigger and more spectacular in the section department, while manipulated the scoring rules many times to try and accommodate the section style, all in an effort to give them more chance of not failing the section, adding minders, mobile pit crew and every other thing they can think of to make it more appealing. Has it worked. Do more spectators attend. Do more riders participate. If any other sport, business, government had the same track record for the past twenty years, would you still keep going in the same direction.
  20. That could be a good thing, if your going full watt down a trail and run a greenie over they won't know what hit em.
  21. Makes sense Gizza. I remember a chap once mentioned at a meeting, why don't you just count the dabs up to five, 1234= dabs 5= fail might sound too simple but most of the time simple works, nadgery sections that a paddle through could mean at least twenty dabs would become very hard and a three or four is a good ride. As mentioned above stiffer scoring and more flowing sections make for a more appealing event for the average rider, no getting away from the fact the top riders are fantastic at what they do, but the average man can't relate to that so they don't. Governing bodies will do whatever they feel is best for them, change only comes about when the masses say enough and force change, again said many times those marking out the events have the real power, just don't mark an event for the top few trick riders, the best will still win. I think our job is just encourage more to ride, not prove how good the few are. I no longer have any interest at all in world or national championships, the enjoyment in this sport for me is just what it was 30 yr ago, it's local and less expensive.
  22. And trials is going the same way as Greece, Italy and Spain, down the Gary Glitter. The sooner trials at world level fails the better if you ask me.
  23. Sorry Stevel, none of the hopping and bopping world class riders have cleaned the SSDT yet and most of those sections don't have a corner in em.
  24. I vote for stop allowed, I'm getting on a bit and it's reet grand being able to stop for a rest half way up a section.
  25. When the worlds best riders ride event's like the SSDT and Scott, have you ever noticed how well they do? mebbe the young kid's with dreams of top level riding would better served riding no stop or get a reet job and ride trials just for fun like it was intended.
