I hope you all have a blast and nice weather over there!!!
Biff, you would not have had to order rain for me as well... But please don't order any rain for next weekend, otherwise I'm expecting really muddy sections (compare last year vermontville)...
-
all right, there are on the hosting club's website some pictures of the German National http://www.msc-dreckenach.de/_bilder.php?d...DM%20Dreckenach
and a local TV-Station had a 3minute spot (no, I didn't synchronize it in English, but at least you can get a good look at some sections): http://vimeo.com/1605711
Congrats to everyone who participated in Minnessota!
-
Good Luck to all the MOTA-members! I'll cross my fingers for you while checking a German national this weekend.
-
I'd like to use my 2002 Scorpa Sy250 on public roads in Germany (I brought it with me when I moved over from the US) . So It seems that I need all that paperwork that states all the technical data of that bike (roughly 100pages) and I don't know what else... Seems to be a real p.i.t.a.
Has anyone any experience with this stuff?
Thanks!!!
-
Thanks for all the pictures and videos, I almost feel as if I was there and watched...
Looks like some new sections compared to last year. - And some downhills designed just for me
-
I think riding different stuff in different competitions has pros and cons. We had a time when we had the non-stop rule in our nationals but not in international competition and that was being regarded as disadvantage, so we changed it. Sometime last century we had bonus points, so you got your regular dabs and bonus points for stopping, they don't count like dabs, but might be used when two equal results are... Just an idea...
Oh, and during the non-stop time we had once the term "dynamic stop", that did not count as a stop (when coming up an obstacle you have a split second when you don't move)... That might be the direction in which 'Zippy' is thinking...
I ride different competitions (diff. rules) in different countries, it works
I know the bike is not the problem, but my spine still needs healing (nothing broken, but sprained when going over the handlebars 2 weeks ago). But wait till I visit in late fall!
Everyone of MOTA, have a blast in Rose city!!!
-
Hey, seems like I miss something when not attending the Rose City event... Unfortunately last minute flights are not that cheap- especially the Scorpa as carry-on is way too expensive
Wanted to give my 2 cents about all these classes:
You cannot make a class for each rider, so everyone gets their style of sections and their winner-trophy... It will get too expensive with all the trophies...
I'm riding a class this year that lies somewhere in the difficult SPT-lines to advanced. And If I think I can't make a section, before I hurt myself, I get a five. But at least I'm challenged and can learn (some stuff's easier than I imagined when walking a section) and don't give a reason to make the class below too tough... And I'm a chick with a downhill and dropoff- phobia!
I wouldn't make the easiest class (BEG) way harder, because sometimes the loop is challenging enough for these riders! And I think still SPT is the right way as 50/50 INT/ADV. Because: If I'm moving up from INT to SPT, I can do at least 50% of the sections. And if there are 2 ADV sections I can't make, I just get a 5 for them. And when I move further up to ADV, I know I should be able to handle half the sections, I've ridden them a year ago...
Hope everyone has fun in Rose City (I had a blast last year) and Jim will get better soon!
I'll sign up in the Senior 20 class at the next event
-
In Germany it's the way that we have 1 person being responsible, but then we work in several small groups of 3 or so to set up sections. So we can have in a rather short time lots of sections built. Usually there are estimated 10-15 people there on each of the 2 saturdays before the event to set up... And we don't ride in our sections. But then I'm allowed to ride at the event the sections I've built (but never ridden before).
For nationals way more time and manpower is required...
-
I use my 25year old 250cc 4-stroke Honda for getting to work when the weather is nice. The motorcycle takes half the amount of fuel to get me to work and adds lots of fun. But in Detroit I'd never dared to ride a motorcycle on the roads: too much junk on the interstates and nobody seems to care about a weak spot like pedestrians and motorcycle riders... That's definitively different in the small villages where I use to commute.
And for riding Trials, my property for practicing is 10miles from my house. But for the events, we often carpool when it's far, more fun and saves on fuel! And if one event of a series of ten is too far, then I just don't ride it 'cause the best 8 results that's what counts! And I'm no rider to win, so just stay home and have fun there..
And ride events in these countries where fuel is more affordable -okay, no one in central US will do that...
-
Hey folks! How right about this falling off that hurts... You should have told me a day earlier But it was such a nice picture, seeing my Scorpa being parked on the handlebar and the rear fender, front wheel spinning and me laying next to it. But hey, I can sit again
And I like that cow pie thingy... what a hillarious idea!
-
Biff, what was in Windsor, you 'dnf'? Did you drown in that nice creek?
Zippy, you're like me, just I don't need a log downhill to cause any problems and you got my email regarding "a bit wet and muddy"
But back on topic, I remember the Great Lakes event as challenging but rideable sections and a nice loop...
Even though I'm not that fond of 10 feet splatters... unless it's 10 mouse feet
-
Hi you folks over there...
1st: of course infamous ed is being missed... as well as the rest of the MOTA-crew, especially the Team WGASA!
2nd: sob, I want to ride the nice Windsor sections as well... and it's so relaxing, sign up and knowing I'll get a trophy
unfortunately I'm packed with events for the next couple of weeks, and then I'd get in trouble for shure if I'd have to steal a bike and then travel across the canadian border with it...
And explain that to customs and border protection: "I have to cross the border 'cause I want to ride an awesome trials event with this ..uh stolen... bike"
3rd: biff, no matter if joe's riding adv or Exp, the two of you have fun practicing! And I was able to show you lines, even though I'm riding two classes lower. But due to the lack of steep long downhill sections in MI, you never had the fun of me swearing 5 min in a section that I don't wanna go down there.. I'm afraiiiiid!!!!
-
...and Pat became 3rd. And despite the weather discussion it was nice and sunny on sunday!
-
Zippy,
I can't answer your question, but I can promise you're gonna have fun! And if not, WGASA!!
I hope all of you will have an awesome event!
-
I remember riding in Warken/Ettelbruck without rain, but right now we have snow less than 200 miles from there, so I would suggest to take a life-jacket and grandma's hand-knit sweater I definitively will bring lots of warm clothes for checking! But a row-boat would be nice for that tiny creek over there - that was tiny when I saw it in the summertime
Good luck to Pat!
-
Keith,
sorry for the late reply!
I'm gone for good, but I'll come for a short visit again. I'm just afraid that I won't make it to a MOTA-event (when you have events, I'm riding as well)

I'm spending my weekends with my trials bike, practicing. (competed in February in 2 fun events, on Sunday 3/2 the first real event takes place). Unfortunately I got a bad cold, what did not contribute in a very positive way to my riding skills- but what a good excuse for bad results!!
Here a picture of the website of the MSC Dreckenach, Germany from February 2008

@Michigan Trials riders: haven't seen any snow since I left Detroit...
I'd love to see pictures of Pat's Monty when it's done! Maybe you should train Loui (cat) to finish the polishing when you guys are at work...
Take care and keep your feet on the pegs!

I think a 200 would not fit for Zippy, knowing him and his riding style. Besides that they are pretty hard to find, I tried to get one and did not find any for myself (now I'm with a 250).
But Zippy, we will work on your wife to get you a newer bike. Or if people talk you into an 05, then just wait another 2 years and they'll be affordable!
But yeah, we definitively need a camera in the right spot, I'd still like to see myself on that log the 2nd time (I seperated quite spectacular from my bike yesterday), not only Zippy with the 125!
Biff, you will only get me talked into GasGas if you can proove they come with an easy-button (that everything huge and scary looks like it is as easy as a turn, that I'm not too scared... ) So I'm always happy riding- until something comes up that scares me so I won't even try it, rather find a more difficult way around it... I'm riding like a girl!
But you guys did awesome splatters!!!
-
Hello together,
Just to let you know, I will be in Michigan from next Wednesday. Do you also have some events in winter or do I have to wait until spring? In Germany, we have Christmas events, New Years Eve event, etc... (Usualy more fun than a real competition) Is there something like that in Michigan, too? If not, I'm afraid I will forget how a bike looks

Me not, I'm still in Germany until the second half of the month...
At least we have no snow, almost warm enough to ride in a T-Shirt
-
All right, then I will have a bit of spare room for my everyday clothes
-
Biff,
nice to meet somebody out of the Detroit area. I will ride this weekend a competition, but in Germany . I will move to the US about November...
But when I'm in the area, I will surely contact you!!
So I already know that I have to find a place for at least my boots in my luggage... buying a new helmet in the US won't be a problem, will it?

Hi Gaby,
I won't take my bike with me, shipping is too expensive and too much paperwork and I don't have any place where I can store it in the Troy area right now. Thanks a lot for the great offer!!! When I will be in the US (and my bike clothes, too), I will contact you and we can meet probably.

Hello together,
I'm the Fantic-riding friend of Lee who will move to the US.
I did some research on the motatrials.org website and found that some of the events are not too far from the area where I will live. So I already know that I have at least the opportunity to watch some trial competition. Not always as nice as riding, but better than nothing!
@Glenn: What was your proposal? You'll take your children with you while having a date and I can do some Fantic nursing during this time???
We'll see, when I decide to come to South Carolina, I'll let you know!!! Thanks for the offer!
