  1. Did you try adjusting the shock dampening adjuster?
  2. And who exactly is doing this back and forth?
  3. CMA National date and venue for 2024 sure would be nice to know when and where so people can plan holiday and travel time 😐 Is it Derek up to bat ?
  4. lol and yet you are going to discover muscles that you did not know exist. Your MX experience is why I believe you will have no problem with the engine power, if you have good throttle and clutch control you should be able to ride anything. Front brake may take some getting accustom to because they are about twice as sensitive as typical MX and Enduro bike brakes, only use one finger on the trials bike if you are normally using two fingers to brake your MX bike. Brakes are something you use occasionally on a MX bike to slow you down, Trials riding will have you on the brakes almost as much as the throttle.
  5. Virtual World 🤔 is that a video game? Gammers don't know about riding motorcycles. Anything you see one of those competition bikes go over, the other one will follow, none of them will make it any easier than the other it is all hard work. You aren't buying just a motorcycle you are buying a gasoline powered exercise machine.
  6. It is likely a little known fact that Montesa bikes came crated with a whole slew of parts the dealers keep for profit as part of the dealer preparation, the bikes came with 2 different sized rear sprockets plus 2 drive chains in different lengths to fit the sprocket change, 2 header pipes one with cat and one without cat, 1 intake restrictor, 2 exhaust restrictors, plus 2 tail pipes one for street with a smaller opening and one for racing along with 2 pop rivets of the correct size to change the tail piece easy, full set of street lights, horn, steering lock and key, speedometer parts, 2 headlights one with speedometer and lights the other just a small headlight and no speedo, 2 heat shields one for the cat header and one for the straight header. Near as I could tell the dealers keep all the extra parts that come in the crate and charge you for dealer prep, which is very lucrative if they can sell all the extra parts. If you need headers go to a Montesa dealer that has been around for a while, they have the parts.
  7. My 2017 260 4RT came with all of the parts needed to make it street legal in a civilized country plus all of the parts to make it race ready plus a supplementary instruction manual on how to convert the bike to race ready. It was dirt simple and involved little more than removing parts, replacing parts that were provided. Does it affect the road worthy status, yes of course it does, invariably when you remove pollution equipment you are breaking a federal law.
  8. That's easy, they will change the stickers, possibly the frame or plastics colour and almost nothing else 😆
  9. 👍 Once you become accustomed to the motorcycles power and handling you can reverse some of the changes you made to tone it down. Leaving the seat on forever would be unwise as that will never compel you to ride the pegs and bend your knees as much as you should to be riding it correctly. To lift the rear of the bike grab a hand full of rim with your fingers between the spokes (with a glove on) that is the best way by far. If you catch for another rider you grab the stanchion tube because that is the safest place to grab and secure a flying motorcycle. Have fun or you're not doing it right and before long you will be hopelessly addicted 😀
  10. As it tops out at around 17 kph in first gear 🤔 has a 28mm carb instead of a 39mm carb is 70 pounds lighter and possibly puts out half the horsepower of what you have been riding, I think 20 years of MX experience should prepare most to handle the explosive power of any trials bike unless you have terrible throttle and clutch control. On the question of construction quality; look at the footpeg mounts on a GasGas and then the Vertigo or a TRS or Montesa. GasGas typically takes more shortcuts in construction to keep the manufacturing costs lower.
  11. lineaway is right self or partner checking does not work. As a club our plan is to host our annual Invitational Extreme Enduro to financially support our Trials events, hopefully the combined sports will provide the pool of checkers and support staff for each others event. Basically if the Enduro riders want to ride our awesome event they are going to be expected to work and or contribute to the Trials event, it's the only solution we could come up with that might even work going forward, should increase fun and improve safety for all.
  12. How far west am I going to need to travel if I want to participate in this years CMA National Trial? I built 2 nice new sections in preparation for a proposed 2025 National this week 😎 they just need to be trashed in and tested for their level of awesomeness. Saskatchewan would be nice if it's not in flood or fly season, even nicer if enough riders participate to have the minimum 3 riders per class 😐

    Battery charging

Interesting observation today; TRS electric start model headlight was on when it was parked in the garage, had not been running for hours. Turned the headlight switch to off and half the LED's went out, touched the starter button long enough for the starter motor to be in a new position and the headlight started acting normal again and controllable by the switch. Some how the LED' were being fed through the starter motor. 2023 model so I think it is a characteristic of the starter model and not a defect as such, more like a bug.
  14. Not many are dry clutch, when did you change the oil last? Clutch plates are rubberized cork which swells in the presence of gasoline or water, not so much in clean oil.
  15. Ignition coil doesn't hold a charge it only amplifies voltage. Capacitor can hold a strong charge if there is no draw on it, that's why you need to be careful handling them and short the terminals before touching them.
  16. It's all about making and storing enough electricity to keep the fuel pump running and up to pressure, without fuel pressure the bike can not fire. You could probably add a second capacitor and effectively double the marginal capacitor performance. Fan sucks a lot of power too so if that is running when you stall out poof goes the power storage.
  17. Possibly the cable if there is no return spring operation, the cable operates a very simple cam mechanism that is not prone to failure but works a lot better with routine cleaning and lubrication. Nothing works as good as a new cable so that is a good start if the one on there now is old.
  18. ne vous excusez jamais de votre nationalité 👍 if I can't understand French that's my problem. Vertigo in 2021 has no battery? If you have fuel injection and no battery you need to make the electricity first, first kick is charging the capacitor. If you add a battery you have a way to charge the capacitor.
  19. You are building brake parts 🤔 are you trying to build up a dimension on the brake pad steel backing plate? why not use JB weld epoxy or something similar to build up the surfaces and then file it to precise shape and fit?
  20. Holy 50 hours is far off the 6 or 7 year failure interval that I have been seeing, even on Honda generators. We are only talking about adjusting out the amount of metal fatigue and deformation in the valve seat here. The Montesa engine has a decompressor on the cam that is dependent on the clearance adjustment being spot on, I just checked a Beta 4T manual and the Beta 4T has a similar decompressor mechanism on the camshaft.
  21. All of my Honda engines had about 6 or 7 years of heavy use on them before the valves needed slack adjusting. It would be no surprise if a 9 year old Beta 4T is due for valve clearance attention, ymmv. A compression test 'might' be an indicator of valve clearance problems, but only if you have compression test results from when the engine was new to compare with. Carburetors and modern pump fuel with the corn alcohol added is a problem because carburetors have a vented float bowl where fuel can evaporate and leave behind residue or promote the growth of organic materials, by contrast fuel injection is a closed loop pressurized system other then the fuel tank itself so 'if' you never needed to clean and service a carburetor after running and storing modern pump gas in the carburetor, that would be absolutely amazing.
  22. Brake master cylinder reservoir has a rubber baffle in it to keep the fluid separate from the vented air space above the fluid. It would be virtually impossible to over-fill and pressurize the reservoir unless you left the rubber baffle out completely, plugged the tiny reservoir vent hole and over-filled the reservoir. The rubber baffle is in the master cylinder reservoir between the fluid and the vented area in order to reduce oxidation and absorption of water from the atmosphere by the DOT brake fluid. The little stainless leaf spring part is called the anti-rattle clip.
  23. I rode Montesa 4RT for years and find them easy to work on if you can just replace parts you smash on rocks and occasionally adjust valve clearances good. Friends that own the Beta 4-stroke have a lot more problem with starting the engine cold or after a tumble, the Beta carburetor is a down side when compared to the Montesa PGM-Fi You set the valve clearances when the bike becomes hard to start and you have ruled out everything else. Beta 4T handles nicely, slightly more lively then the Montesa chassis, but the engine performance really would improve with the addition of fuel injection.
  24. Two things I would check, make sure both pads are moving and one side isn't stuck. Second is replace the wheel bearings, the brakes can't work great if the wheel bearings are not great.
  25. Check out Outback Trading Oilskin overpants, might work for you
