Hi everybody, I'm would like to know what is the best gearbox oil to put in my 05 280 gasser.Some of my mates are using ATF but i'm not sure what is best.I used to use Motul 10/30 in my Scorpa sy would this suit the Gasser or is it to thick.THANKS.

Hello mate, I repaired my tank with Arildite. depends where the crack is and how big it is.Mine was where the kickstart sits,tryed petrol patch but after a while it started to leak again,hope this helps.

Hi Godzilla it's 2001 sy, i've hadit for nearly 2 year & the only time she has let me down was when it sheard the woodruff key. I fancy a newer one but i keep thinking i'll just be buying some one elses troubles. Do you do the trials i'm a member of consett & live in stanley. Hi godzilla,i've just done mine last week pretty straight forward to do.The headache was stripping everything down just to get the swing arm off. You may need the two bushes as one of my bearings was shot & scored the bush.For the two bushes & two nylon washers

Hi Peter,all the best to you & thanks for your reply,so i take it its not a straight forward piston change, every thing a tight squeeze then. Was the piston kit expensive then.I'd heard the head gasket wasn't cheap,now just got to find the time to strip her down what with work commitments.Once again thanks.

Hi everybody,hope you've all had a good year & have a good new year.Right down to buisness i'm goin to strip my Scorpa sy 2001 for a service. I was wondering how much a piston & rings are as i think mine has got a bit of slap,all my mates who i ride with say it sounds fine but i think it sounds a bit ratley.The bike starts 2nd kick every time from cold & still has loads of power,but i think its time to pamper her after giving me a good years riding with just a few hickups,like a sheard woodruffkey & tempremntal rear brake ( new banjos job sorted) & cracked my tank where kick start sits, fixed with areldite & fiberglass. Not bad for a years riding.Also how much for a set of bearings for the swingarm & shocker. Will phone Birketts for prices but thought you guys might have done these jobs & give me some ideas as to how much.Cheers and have a good years riding.

Hello everybody, my mates Gas Gas 300 04 gave up the ghost yesterday.He did 1 lap then riding to the next section it just stopped.He thought it had run out of petrol,but when he got back to the van & had a look at the bike it had no spark. Disconected the kill switch tryed another plug but still nothing.When he got home he took the flywheel of & cleaned inside & checked for any broken wires.He says its got the ducati ignition on his bike, has anybody had any similar problems & the cure. He also says theres an orange wire comming out of the harness which he doesnt know where it goes.Any advice or help would be a great help.THANKS.

Sounds like a job for some tank sealer to me. Where would i get some tank sealer from madcr.

Hi everybody, i've damaged my tank on my SY, where the kickstart sits in the re-cess. It happend about six months ago kicked the bike over & my foot slipped off, causing the kickstart to spring back & hit the tank. there must be a hair line crack from where the petrol is seeping out. I've tryed to re-pair it with a petrol patch but after a while it starts to leak again. I silacond a bit of rubber onto the re-paired patch for a bit more security in case it happens again but wondering if its causing a reaction & thats why its leaking again.Anybody had a similer problem & any other products i could try. I can get it plastic welded but dont know what type of plastic the tanks are made of & which rod to use. Thanks very much.

Hey gregg, yes stopped the smoking changed the crank seal,A mate did it for me for a small fee.I tried the bike on sunday & she seems to be running great,reving a lot cleaner & crisper.I thought the clutch seemed a bit noiser at idle but my mate says i was just hearing things because the engine had been interfeard with. i'm going too up the 2 stroke to 70ml instead of 65 mls. cheers & thanks.

Hello Matty,you could try castleside quary at consett theres a bit of everything up there.It's on the a68 between consett & allensford. Were going up this sunday because we missed out on the Weardale trial this sunday because the entry is full.Should be a good day,have yourself a look up & check it out.

Thanks for your reply,was it the crank seal or the seal behind the clutch basket,because i bought a new crank seal & gasket from birketts.But when i phoned him on advice about doing it he said he'd never known them to leak. what 2 stroke oil do you use in yours & how much.

Hello everybody, need some help or advice please, i've got an sy 250 2001 & she realy chuffs the smoke out the exhaust. I'm running her on castrol tts at 80:1 to 5ltrs fuel,which i'm told is 62.5 mls of oil,but she chuffs like a steam train its quite embarrising when your sitting waiting to do the section & there's clouds of smoke every where any help would be very gratefull. thanks.

Hello mate, where abouts in the NE are you, if you go to the trials try asking for Bunny he might be able to sort you out.

It's 10-38 standerd but a lot of people go 11-38. Hope this helps.

Hello wrc, there is no bleed nipple on the sy,i bled mine at a trial because the sir-clip broke on the slave cylinder pushing the piston out. found new clip put it all back to-gether topped the resivoir up & pumped the lever,while flicking the cabel to get any air to rise to the top,only took 20mins & finished the trial. hope this helps. P.S (pump the lever slow.)

Hello wrc, iv'e also got an sy,what i have to do from cold is start the bike,let it tick over for a few seconds then give the bike a little push so the bike is freewheeling then knock it into gear,then pull the clutch in so it disengages the clutch. Then knock back into nuetral then bike is ok for the rest of the day.Try some fresh oil 10/30 650cc if no change try & bleed to see if any air in the system,failing that new clutch plates req;.hope this helps.
