The Peak Classic Trials Club round 2 of their 2008 Club Championship at Cookes Quarry, Sidenooks Plantation, Youlgrave Derbyshire on 9th March 2008and were blessed with sunny and dry conditions. The lull before the storms that struck most of the country on Sunday night.
Unusually for this venue there was abundant grip due to the dry conditions resulting in lower scores than is the norm in these woods. On the Expert route section 3 proved to be the decider where most lost the bulk of their marks. Only Mark Weston managing to stay clean here. On the Clubman route it was section 8 with none of the riders keeping a clean sheet.
The next round, round 3, of the Club Championship will be held at Clifton Scrambles Course near Ashbourne on 20th April.
The Club would like to thank all the observers who turned out without which there would be no Trials and extends a warm welcome to all riders and any who would like to observe at the next event.

Just to let everybody know that the trial on Sunday will be held at Cookes Quarry, Sidenooks, Youlgrave.
T & MX failed to print the details in the events collumn so i and the club would appreciate it if you could bear us in mind if you are looking for a ride on a twinshock or pre65 This Sunday
The last event at Berrycliffe was very well supported and the sections will be along the same lines so a good days sport will be had.
Please pass it on as some may not know the event is on.
Thanks

Is that a promise
I ride in Robregordo for the joy of it and the company. Those who have never been just do not know what they are missing.
Apart from Scotland it's the best Trial in the season bar none.
-
Thanks mate but it was the Clubman route Dont think the locals need to worry in Kinlochleven or Robregordo.
bikes fine as for the rider

Midland Classic Trials Clubs 2nd March meeting was at Cookes Quarry, Youlgrave Nr Matlock on a sunny spring day with a 10 section 5 lap course along the wooded hillsides.
The dry weather made the sections somewhat easier than usual but a good days sport was had by the excellent turnout of riders on a good mix of machinery. Consistency and concentration were paramount and two class winners, Pete Carson Unit 4 stroke and Rene Stubbs Pre 72 2 stroke, had to be decided on the furthest clean rule.
As usual the Expert unit class was a Tiger Cub whitewash as the top three placings were again all on Cubs.
It was great to see some more rigids taking part with Jon Tye taking a win on his BSA Bantam which bodes well for his ride in the forthcoming Scottish Pre65 2 day Trial.
The club would like to thank all the observers who came along without which there would not be a Trial and would like to remind riders that the first 10 to provide an observer get a free entry.

I think i'll keep the James under a tarpaulin when i come over for Robregordo
Those bikes put ours over here to shame.
Last year i was gobsmacked by the bikes at Robregordo and going by the standard of the bikes in the photos this year will be even better if that is possible.

You might just find there is more much more to this and why than meets the eye. Agree we should all do or very best to preserve the land for Trials usage but certain vested interests may be hard to overcome.
Real pandoras box this one allegedly of course

Slapper "i have a cunning plan my lord"
-
Does that mean in some strange way we are all funding the contents of the batcave ?
-
what ? what? whadda ya mean

Aparently Northern Rock are doing great deals

Yeah a valve spring would possably do but i got some springs from a spring manufacturer near to where i work and cut them to length. Then again on my current James the pursang springs work well just bottoming out on steep drop offs. Took a while to get the preloaders and fork oils qty and weight right but seems ok now.
Try it and see what you think. If you have some in the bit box it's worth a go to see if it feels you are moving in the right direction. Down to fine tuning really. Good luck

Peak Classic Trials Club held round 1 of their 2008 Club Championship at Burycliffe Quarry near Matlock Derbyshire on Sunday 17th Feb. A very cold start turned into a nice sunny day in the Peak National Park and 49 riders enjoyed an excellent days sport before retiring to the Miners Standard for the presentation of 2007 awards. As usual with this popular venue the sections consisted of rocks rocks and more rocks. Lovely ! Section 7 a twisting path over and around some big rocks was the decider in all classes but concentration was the key so as to keep loss of marks to a minimum as 1 dab could be disasterous.
This was the first event for the new Club secretary Martin Booth and the riders smiling faces at the end bode well for the forthcoming season of Trials for this expanding popular Club and the next Trial at Cookes Quarry,Youlgrave on the 9th March is round 2 of the Clubs 2008 Championship.

Hi Mate counting the days down
Best place for sprockets is Talon. You might like to try a 12 tooth gearbox sprocket? works for me anyway.
Alloy mudguards ? Probably sammy miller products.
As for the forks then you need progressive fork springs. Problem is i dont know the internals in your forks so might struggle to recommend a supplier. Running Bultaco pursang in mine and custom turned some preloaders till i got the feel right. As for oil 7.5W works for me.
Looking foward to Scotlland and maybe sharing the start ramp as we are consecutive numbers, i'm odd (some would say very) and youre even, so at least see ya at the start.

Honestly dont bother! Go the Mikuni or Dellorto route they run sooooo muh better one one of those.

Stay with the black and gold BJ Looks a beaut. Very Classy

Dunno bout "without a great deal of money" have you priced up having the cub crank modified as in ultra short stroke? No all i meant was that contrary to some peoples ideas of how things were when the world was in black and white Trials bikes have always been modified by their owners. Some of the contributors seem to believe people actually rode the bikes as they were produced by the factories and sold over the counter when in reality a lot of the "Trials" models were barely reworked road bikes that NEEDED extensive mods just to be able to compete.
So this idea of "standard" bike only competing in Scotland is a daft as there werent any "Std" bike being ridden competitively Pre65. By definition of std i mean as in Huntmasters posting of the Ariel for example.
Very nice AJay though why they never dropped the seat i'll never know
-
Nice one BJ but does bring to mind the discussion about "tricked up" pre 65 bikes.
-
Great ideas Where do i get the ceramic piston and i like the idea of the carbon fibre frame. As for traction control and ABS working on those at the moment.
Back to the future thats the way. Got me thinking now Hmmmmm know some people into composites and Formula 1 Must ring them up tomorrow

Midland Classic Trials Clubs 3rd February meeting was held at a cold but sunny Berrycliffe Quarry with a 9 section 5 lap course laid out over and around the rocks that this well known venue is famous for. The majority of the marks were lost on section 3 a rocky climb with a couple of tight turns and steps thrown in and section 7 a steep climb with a very sharp turn back down catching out a fair number of the entry.
The Expert unit class was a bit of a Tiger Cub whitewash as the top three placings were all on the same make of machine.
Speaking of a whitewash the Carson family very nearly had a clean sweep with Pete Carson taking the honours in the unit category and brother Derek taking 3rd in the 2 stroke class but a fantastic result for young son Robert on his Wassel winning the Clubman class bodes well for an extension to the awards cabinet in the Carson household for years to come.
Finally it was great to see two rigids turn out and a fantastic ride by Werner Eckel on his J.A.P. ette to win the class putting many of the more tricked up bikes to shame. A superb result. Shows it is still more about the rider than the machine. So come on dig out your old bikes especially the rigids and big singles and join us at the next round Youlgrave on March 2nd.

Only a thought but why not pick up a Pinky? Cheap, still fairly competitive, very reliable, cheap parts, nil depreciation. Best of all worlds
