  1. Sorry, meant SAE 10w/30. Works fab. Can't wait to get the rest of the bike rebuilt now.
  2. Thanks guys. Just bought some 10/30 oil. Feels pretty good but the forks arent on he bike yet. I am doing a full restoration of the bike from the front end bacwards and the forks were first. Gareth
  3. The 30year old manual suggests using 10/30 fork oil and 126cc in each leg. Does anybody use 5wt oil or any other weight ? Only asking as I use 5wt in my Beta and it would save me a lot of money if I use the same in both. Does anybody use the 120mm air gap principal (spring out) rather than measuring 126cc of oil. Regards Gareth
  4. Currently restoring my Yamaha TY 175. Planning on having all the alloy / magnesium aqua blasted i.e. crankcases, yokes, brake plates etc. Ive been told this gets a very nice finish. Has anybody done it ? Maldon seems to be a reputable company. Has anybody used them ? Also has anybody done it to their carb ? Surely if all the jets are removed and you flush it through with compressed air and solvent it should be ok. People have told me not to do it. Shame to spend all that time restoring a bike just t have a manky old carb sitting in the middle of the bike.
  5. Could somebody tell me the torque settings on my 1978 TY175 cylinder head bolts please. Much appreciated. gareth
  6. Doing a full restoration on my 1978 TY175. Someone who has owned the bike before me has kindly (said with sarcasm) drilled out the threaded nut which is welded onto the bottom engine mount at the rear of the engine. Could someone please tell me the size of the thread (i.e. M7, M8, etc)which should be in this engine mount. For some reason the hole in the engine which this particular bolt slides through looks bigger than the other two. Is this the case ? Also, the top mount at the rear of the engine has a bush which goes through the crank case. Should the other two mounting holes in the engine have this also ? Your advice would be much appreciated. Gareth
  7. Currently doing a full restoration of a 1978 TY175 ? Anybody know what colour the frame and swing arm should be. It's got so many layers of paint on it it is hard to tell if the original was red or silver. Also what colour for the chain tensioner ? Any help much appreciated. gareth
  8. Thankyou all for your replies. That is great news for me as I use iATF on my beta and it will be a lot easier to maintain.
  9. It's not an RTX is it ? I had one very smilar to this when I was a kid but it was twinshock. Could be wrong though !!
  10. Thanks for the response. Not familiar with that oil. What make is that ? Castrol ? What weight is it ?
  11. Just wondered what oil you were all using in your gearbox ? What weight and what brand ? Fully synthetic or mineral ? I use ATF fluid in my Beta to good effect and was wondering if anybody uses this in their TY 175? All opinions welcome Gareth
  12. Thanks for that. Looks like hours of polishing are ahead of me.
  13. Thanks Paul. Much appreciated. Will get some photos up when Ive picked up the bike.
  14. Was wondering whether anybody knew if the fins on the cylinder and cylinder head are aluminium or some ferrous type metal. Just bought a Ty 175 and the cylinder and head look like they have more paint on them than a desert tank. Was hoping to have them shotblast and polished if they were aluminium. Has anybody tried this ? Regards Gaz
  15. Hi there Just bught an old TY175 to restore and am picking it up on sunday. The autolube has been taken out and I was just wondering what sort of pre-mix ratios people use. I run my Beta on a 70-1 semi synthetic mix so would the same be suitable ? Also does anybody know if the TY175 has the dreaded Z spoke system. As I haven't seen the bike I can't tell and the guy I'm buying it off doesnt care what spokes it's got. The only reason I ask is because I had a TY250 mono which needed a wheel rebuilt and all the wheel re-builders near me refused to touch it because of the Z spokes. Finally, does anybody know how the frame and engine numbers correlate to the year of prduction so I can work out how old the bike is ? Looking forward to some good responses off you twinshock boys !! Gaz
  16. Sorry, are you saying that the slime works or that you found another product which did work. If so, what is it called. Thanks
  17. I may give that a go. I have seen that tyre slime stuff advertised for tubed bicycle tyres and I was wondering if it would work. I think it may even come with a tool to remove the valve core. Thanks for that.
  18. I appreciate your opinion but the reason I want to go for a tube is more economical than performance related. I don't have a compressor to inflate the tyres to get them to sit on the rim and my local shop charges me

  20. Thanks for all your advice. I think I will go with the heavy duty inner tube and say goodbye to these air leaks. Any more advice will be welcomed. Thanks. Gaz
  21. Hi there. My Beta Rev 3 rear wheel is losing air from the spokes. I had this problem rectified a few months ago and it cost me
  22. There is someone advertising shock servicing on e bay at a price far cheaper than what Beta offer in their shock exchange service. They want
