wow, something happening in NC;
I'll be there 2/3rd December so would be good to know if there is anything going on then

maybe it's just the bikes I've worked on, but some things I've found useful
+ impact driver (and heat) especially useful on cross head screws on Honda TL125 engines. It seems everyone else must be stronger than me. Replace all the Honda screws with hex-headed bolts
+ a good strap wrench, usually used for undoing oil filters, but something I've used to hold flywheels when untightening / tightening
+ digital camera; take pictures as you strip the bike down (stator plate, cable layout, gear cluster, selectors etc)

you can get a decent running TY175 for

have a look at the TL125 page, you'll find lots of links

Powroll
their big bore kits are probably a little more solid than the Sammy Miller ones....
Also, have a look at this months (November 2006) Classic Motorcycle Mechanics and their finished TL125 will the Miller frame, as ridden at the Kendal classic weekend

twinshock restoration projects are not cheap, but once you start you have this urge to go the whole hog despite the verbal hassle you get when your missus see's the visa bill and rapid withdrawls from the cash-machine
As Martin knows, my main current project is a Jumbo, when is just about to commence the reassembly phase (I am writing this up for future reference). Apart from cash heading towards Cheddar, its also involved a shot-blasting / powder coating trip to Redditch (Redditch Shotblasting and Powder Coating) who matched the metallic Pernod blue frame..... as well as shocks, levers etc.....
Jumbo Pictures
(note the homemade flywheel puller, that saved 45 quid).
My current estimate is that the project overall will come in the

i picked up a TY175 "project" bike last week for 50 quid, which is missing a couple of bits, but came with a complete frame, cycle parts and as far as i can see is only missing the flywheel cover and the seat. Original exhaust etc.
Parts are easy to comeby. There are lots of parts on ebay.co.uk this week and people includng

Interesting to see that DK Motorcycle Spares have new Yamaha TY plastics for sale on their ebay shop at the moment also. Spares availability is pretty good and though like all twinshock spares it can be pricey for specific items. Sammy Miller for example, has the nice but expensive fibreglass single seat units. Its cheaper to buy job lots (like the box of bits I bought last week).

all,
in a attempt to brush up on my web development skills I starting mocking up a "trials management" tool that would allow clubs to publish regs for trials; for riders to then sign-up up and for results to be recorded and sent out.
The aim would be for a tool that would be mutliorganisational and allow for multiple clubs to setup trials, define the registration process, the type of trial etc and for then riders to enter events...online.
Not too fussed about the payment side of things (at the moment), but was wondering if someone has already done this; is it an extension for TrialsCentral and even if it is something that would be useful
I've got as far as the user registration and working on profiles (club's, license numbers, bike information, centre etc) and just starting to look at trial setup and definition, but interested in peoples thoughts on how best this may be done.

I've recently acquired a TY175 bike parts (and split engine in boxes) and was thinking of toying with the idea of putting a bored out TL125 engine i have into the frame. The TY frame seems big enough for the TL lump and should give enough power, especially if you can use half of a CB360 carb set on it (which I have done with excellent results).
I've a couple of other projects (aka money pits) on the go, so potentially have frame and bike available to anyone who wants to have a go at building one.....

hi,
you have lots of choice in South Wales...there are two centres; East South Wales and West South Wales
East South Wales, where I ride, includes some great trials ground and some good friendly clubs; Pontypool, Merthyr, Gwent Schoolboys and Abergavenny.
If you are coming back to trials, there is a good fun series set of trials, run each month, the next one is being run on 15th October, at Rockfield, Monmouth. This weekend sees a Merthyr trial at Morlias Quarry (opposite the Brecon Mountain railway) and next weekend (8th October) an Abergavenny Club trial at Lleyncelyn Farm, nr Pandy, Monmouthshire, which is where the Mitchell trial was held this year. There is an easy 'sportsman' route at all trials and they cater for all levels of ability
drop me a line if you want more information on up coming trials

after this weeks TMX, noticed the the TdNs is in France at Breal sous Montfort. This is only a couple of km from Rennes and makes a weekend jaunt possible without taking time off on Friday or Monday.
Currently thinking of loading up the KTM and ferry Portsmouth -> St Malo on the Friday night (arrive 08.15am Saturday) and Cherbourg -> Poole back Sunday night (19h00 sailing). 2 up on the bike can be done for around

living in a rural area, I've found that NFU Mutual have some good van insurance options. Mine is my primary vehicle, but when I had a car and my Hilux, they came up with some good options, like putting the protected no-claims benefit on the truck. I drove it a lot less, and was less lightly to have an accident with it

good to see the discussion on Tremorthic, I also been making enquiries about access (I know one of the neighbouring landowners). There is no doubt that with some help, resurrection of a road trial is possible, and there are volunteers around.
Wye Valley club should meet up once a month and start planning....I'd be happy to help out. Abergavenny AC are also planning a renewed interest in Classic Trials I hope. However good you are (or in my case not), doing classic road trials on a twin shock is the best fun in trials.....
(btw, for a Trader's style route with pubs, you could include the Bulls Head, Craswall; Crown at Longtown, Cornwalle, Clodock, Gluepot at Walterstone and finish at the Temple or Dog, Ewyas Harold.)
