    Swm Shirts ?

ah, excellent, twas the shirt on the right, with the SWM logo round the neck and on the sleeve i was thinking of (and had seen pictures of). Derek Bamford also has an SWM shirt, basically white, with small SWM and sponsors logo, but think base yellow with the 'gothic' style SWM logo is best. OK ? I wont order many small shirts then
  2. there is a club trial on Sunday and I can check with the club secretary (Matthew Johnson), but AFAIK the trial is set to go ahead. I will get the details and make them available here Malcolm
  3. TMX is an interesting paper; for the newcomer to trials, the Reg's section is a little baffling and the results wierd. If Barry Robinson, Simon Evans or Jack Parker cover your trial, or its Yorkshire, however good it is, you get 1-2 pages and some nice pictures. I guess thats fair enough as most of us get round to writing tedious reports only if we have the time. You mention the lack of trials info etc recently and the MotoX season is about to start Its had a couple of revamps in the last couple of years, but it still looks tired in some ways. All thats said, its still a weekly paper with trials info, so perhaps we should still support it; MCN stopped doing trials regs a while ago now

    Swm Shirts ?

been thinking about it for a while, but with three SWMs in this weeks Sammy Miller round maybe its time for some SWM riding shirts ? Had a look on the Destroy Clothing website and they do a vintage style shirt (for Honda's and Bultacos for example) but they will make up an SWM logo'd shirt (the Racer style at bottom of the page) What ideally I need is; a good picture of one we can copy the style of (sure there is a picture of Danilo Galeazzi wearing a shirt with an SWM logo around the neck at the SSDT, but cannot now find it, Motosinge?). Making up 15-20 shirts will take a few quid off the price, as potentially would putting on a suppliers logo and URL (?) Anyone interested ? Reckon
  5. not being a Majesty expert, but how original is this one ? out of interest. Its got a yellow tank, but not made in Milan .....
  6. there have been around 3-4 Sammy Miller HiBoy frames for sale in the last year for TL125's, and as bo drinker says for 350-400 GBP I have seen a more recently made copy and did consider (briefly) making to one up to a pattern
  7. saw this on ebay italia.... maybe prices are on the up ? but then again they aren't ridiculous: Honda on Ebay UK And that's one of 5 :-)
  8. sounds excellent, good distance and some great sections. All I need now is a plausible excuse to get out of a wedding in Cornwall that weekend .....
  9. I got some errors this morning at around 09h30 GMT, though (obviously) its working now The homepage, shows the Forum's icon and the following error.... "Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2) in /home/sites/site4/web/ibf_latest_topic.php on line 23 Could Not Connect To "localhost" And clicking througn on the forums... IPS Driver Error There appears to be an error with the database. You can try to refresh the page by clicking here seems like a MySQL problem, could be concurrent connections issues from the web/app server to the database....
  10. Pitley, agreed the dates for the bikes are fine; it matters little except that the event should be good; still researching the possibilty of a group of sections in the Olchon Valley, but Defra issues AFAIK Any info on the old sections in the labe from the bottom on the King Street in Ewyas Harold up towards Rowlestone ? Malc
  11. just some thoughts on the dates, especially the pre-72 and pre-77 limits, if you think of the bikes around at the time in the non-British camp pre-72, Bultaco's, Montesa's (??) pre-77, Kawazaki KT250, Honda TL125's, Bulto's, Montesa's, Suzuki's, Yamaha TY175 pre-85 all Fantics, Beta, SWMs, Honda TLR250's, Armstrongs, TY250, Majesty's and other exotica you could make it pre-75, pre-80, pre-85 for a better balance, but this is something we can debate next time down at the pub. I was thinking of the "career" of TL125's, really 73-78 and Beamish's, pre-80 as a marker. All Fantics, SWMs, 200/250 Honda's are 80-85. There is a plan to have an Abergavenny twinshock trial on the Saturday, potentially with the following classes; pre-80 SWM, pre-83 SWM, post-83 SWM, everything else :-)
  12. AFAIK, these later TL125's from the 80's (Ihatavo's I think they we're called in Japan) were never in the UK new, so spares are a little harder to find than the 1973-5 K and 76-78 S models. Not sure about the TLR200 parts compatibility, but try David Silver Spares and Ebley Honda
  13. Stu (and others) when I can track down the punch cards etc, I will publish the results. I had to leave before the end of the trial for work, so didn't take them with me. Apologies all round Malc
  14. 60 entries and the largest number in class 8, Twinshocks, probably about 25 in total. At least 8 Honda's, 4 Fantics, 2 or 3 Bultaco's, 6 or so Yam's (Majesty's, Whitehawk's, Martin Willmore's nice "works" Yam), couple of Ossa's, a Kawasaki and, of course, 2 SWM's. I have the programme and can bring it over to the next Wye Valley meeting at the end of the month (27th?)
  15. The next Wye Valley Classic Trial is on April 29th (think so, need to check with pitley), at Dulas near Pontrilas on the Hereford/Monmouthshire border. Gavin should have the 280TLNW fully tricked up by then and I am hoping to give as many of the SWMs as possible a run out (willing riders permitting). It is my birthday around then, so will hopefully having a barbeque on the Saturday evening. I only live 5 miles from the trial, but if you want to give your SWM a run-out at a great (all off-road) venue then you are welcome to join in and camp over. Lets see if we can outnumber the Honda's....
  16. cracking trial on Sunday; great sections, excellent weather and no pre-65 eligibiliy punch-ups at the start (well, not quite) The Tredegar Twinshock's and Team Hungerstone SWM all finished, though luckily we weren't keeping count on the scores towards then end Thanks to the West of England Club for a brilliant event. I will be back next year (hopefully the weather will too).. pictures
  17. the parts manual seems to indicate that this was a factory mod, with only the early engines with the reed block in place. the bike does pull like a tractor, though it is not as 'snappy' as the 280. Some work on the carb and timing needed but will see how it runs tomorrow...
  18. mine turned up today also (Alan, thanks for the earlier head's up) looking at the entry list, its seems that there is a massive swing to twinshock from pre-65 bikes for this first round ?
  19. after some investigation it seems that not all Jumbo's have a Reed Valve engine, rather than the 280 Disc Valve. However it seems that there is a No-Reed Valve version also. The Reed Valve Block was only fitted on bikes with engine serial number upto 178597, after that you got a blanking plate. Recent performance comparison's with my 280TL (currently in Gavin's tuning shop, ie my neighbours workshop) have got me lusting after a Reed Block, which are now not available from Rotax. It pulls well without, but is missing some of the 'rush' I'd expect and can be quite slow to get on the power (this is also probably due to the slooow action throttle). I need to do some further analysis, probably with the acquisition of a Reed Block....from somewhere. Also, have realised that I now live in one of the few places on the map that has as many SWMs as there are houses....

    Herd Of Swms

hmmm, where abouts in the US is this happening; the SSDT starts on the 7th but may have work commitments in the US that week and wouldn't mind coming along

First trial on my Jumbo on Sunday, and i've been riding a 280cc 320TL for a year. My engine has been rebuilt, but may not be perfect and I've got to check the situation with the reed valves and to play with the ignition timing: + its got plenty of power and more short burst blast than the 280, but the 280 is pretty impressive as has been said on the SWM forums, the 280cc engine is more "rideable". Its got more grunt for sure and on Sunday in the mud it could earn its place in the front row of the Italian pack no problem. + the main thing about the Jumbo is the frame and riding position. Although I've not got the alloy section swingarm (yes please if anyone has one), the frame geometry is much like a more modern bike and comparing that with a 78 Guanaco, its more like 15 years than just 5 in terms of bike design. It makes the Jumbo much easier to ride. + the cluch lightener is good, but i have a (surpringsly) light clutch on my 320TL so its one finger on both bikes. I'm conitnuing to mod and tune the Jumbo and "plan" to rider 10-15 trials this year on it.
  24. The first round on Abergavenny AC's 5 round club championships will run on Sunday 4th March starting at 10h30. There are 3 routes: Sportsman (Yellow) for Novice/Twinshock/Pre-65; Clubman (Red and Blue) and Expert (White). It is being held at Penycraig Farm, Llanwenarth, Abergavenny, on the Sugar Loaf. It will also be the 2nd round on the East South Wales Centre championship for which any member of a centre club can participate. The trial is Open, with no restrictions to club or centre, you will need an ACU licence. Its at a venue we've only used a couple of times in the last 5 years or so and is a mixture of rocks, banks and trees. Mathew Johnson (C-of-C) has laid out a 15 section lap and seems that the course is weather proof. The directions in TMX are slightly wrong, in that access will be from above the venue, not below via the Foresty Track. Because of the ground some of the sections are close together, but should not be a problem. To find the venue: head out of Abergavenny on the A40 towards, Brecon. Go past Neville Hall hospital and it will signed off to the right, down a narrow lane and then heads up steeply to the Sugar Loaf car park, high above Abergavenny. Go up to and through the view point car park and into the venue. Multimap Link If you need any further info, call me on 07720 079845
