  1. ok. so rode the Wye Valley Classic trial yesterday and.... 1. had a coffee before i went in the morning (my normal dosage) 2. took a 2 litre bottle of water with me, drank before the start and after 2 laps 3. took my helmet off a regular basis; helmets are v.hot even in Feb and yes, mine might be a little tight and felt ok last night, apart from a little knacked are 40 sections of greasy climbs and mud. Good trial, and yes Pitley I am smiling despite one of my bikes seizing up....

hmm, see that the Jumbo prototype has a steel swingarm, rather than the alloy box-section one. Mine has a steel swingarm, but understand that this and 35mm, rather than 38mm, forks were specific bikes that might have ended up in the US ? Engine number places the bike around July 83 manufacture.
  3. the website uses style sheets and its probably that your browser (IE?) may have mangled the text...first reports of problems re wiring to place the condenser somewhere handy is a good idea and probably cheaper than electronic ignition. Anyone with electronic ignition on their SWM, let me know as interested in wiring and the costs involved
  4. over the last couple of months I've been getting through condensers rather too quickly, initially on my 320TL and now on the Jumbo. So done some investigative work and written it on my (mainly SWM) blogging website. SWM electrics I've basically not found the problem, but tried to eliminate the likely suspects, we shall see....
  5. well apart from the local Wye Valley classic series (which I rode today), with neighbour Gavin, riding one of my SWMs (he now has his own, which is probably a good thing as mine seized on the 3rd lap). Also try to ride the Abergavenny club trials, which have a twinshock class this year. + Sammy Miller rounds, starting with the one in Devon in a couple of weeks, hopefully do 5-6 of these this year + ACU classic, might go for a couple of the local (to Herefordshire) rounds, spoke to a guy today (Martin ?) who is running a Jumbo in this years series. + Rhayader Classic Experts, superb, usually Rememberence Weekend in November + Inverness Classic Two Day (see Big John, regs are out) + Wye Valley Traders, Sunday 23rd September, after a 15-year absence. I have also suggested to MartinM, that we could run a twinshock trial (with an SWM focus) on Saturday 22nd Sept, near Pandy on the Monmouthside / Herefordshire border, making a weekend of the Traders. Would make the trip worthwhile and potentially arrange something special around SWMs for that weekend. Looking at this schedule, and given that one bike has failed on the first trial of the year, I could be spending a lot of time in the shed getting a bike ready for these events :-)
  6. 2.0.0.1 seems to be the current version, but I'm sure what registry mangling its doing during the install. As mentioned elsewhere a Remove following by a re-install may help. Firefox is the way to go with browsers on Windows (and other OS such as MacOS and Linux). Working out why things work on Windows (and don't) can be a black art. Let me know if you want some specific help
  7. in an interesting development, I bought an Iris 520 chain for my SWM project from BVM in Stroud a couple of months ago. Yesterday it snapped after light use and 1 trial. One link of one side of the bike split around the pin and luckily it didn't fail completly. Phone BVM looking for a new chain and mentioned about the Iris failure and it seems there was a bad batch of Iris chains in Nov-Dec time in the UK with lots of failures and some nasty crashes they were aware of. They are replacing the chain free of charge (I like BVM....) but makes you wonder how people can screw up a trials bike chain. Ok, I pay
  8. Over the last 12 months, I've noticed 3-4 times that come Sunday evening I've developed a serious headache after returning from a trial and wonder if anyone else gets this ? I am wondering if it is one of (or a combination of) the following 1. Bike exhaust fumes; on trials with a large entry and a short loop, people queue with their engines running and you get a lung full of fumes and CO. Especially good if people rev out their bikes before the start of a section 2. Not taking enough fluids on during the trial 3. Crash Helmet too tight ?? (or head too big) 4. Apres-trial beer Now that its doesn't happen at every trial I'm ruling out 3 and that 4 is such a rare occurrence I can discount that too. I've not noticed my lips going pink, but having experienced some interesting after-effects of running the bike in the shed a couple of times, I do think that option 1 is a possibility. I rarely get the after effects from a road trial.... any one else noticed something similar ?
  9. you've missed the rather better one in the UK, recently on Ebay
  10. its a common thread and I wrote this article to describe registering older bikes with age-related plates. For more recent bikes, all dealers should have provided a certificate for type approval that shows it can be road registered. Vehicle inspections vary from office to DVLA office; Worcester I've found always inspect. Cardiff don't

    Honda Tl Bits

For Honda TL125 bits I've got parts from the following places David Silver Spares: Engine spares, online catalogue showing what they've got but its also worth phoning if its not listed Sammy Miller : has got some useful bits, such as front and rear sprockets and also nice exhaust system. They also do the 150cc rebore if you have a 124cc / S model barrel. Ebay; usually some good (and bad spares) online and there is at least one K and S engine listed every month, plus lots of donor bilkes.
  12. Knowing how competitive Sammy's pricing usually is and that inflation in 1973 was around 400% :-) also with judicious use of an inflation pricing calculator(for houses etc)... 1. The Sherpa mudguard stays (Item FM2)
  13. ah, was planning a trip to Lydney, for Gwent Schoolboys which is about 1 hour nearer from Here(ford) than Strata Florida. Good ground at Aylburton Common too I here,
  14. in the world of twinshock trials bikes there seems to be a good group of people on ebay; I've bought, I've sold and I think I get the picture. Don't rule it out because of bad press; its a tool for a commercial transaction ebay is its own special animal which needs to be dealt with accordingly. As other people have already said: + try to always speak to the seller on the phone before you buy; gives you a good feeling or a bad one + always be honest and accurate when selling + expect ebay to return a _fair_ market value; common stuff sells poorly, rarer, good quality sells well + experience is very useful...
  15. along with Magical Mick's crash helmet, the Alta Suzuki is also heading to France.
  16. my thoughts on this would be: 1. the sat image is from the winter, taken around 3-4pm in the evening 2. that the projection is not true north south, more north-east -> south-west

    Tl 125

if its a 1974 TL125 then it will be a K[0-2], with the earlier single piece cylinder with the 122cc barrel. + the cylinder head is harder to work on if you have a worn camshaft (no bearings in these Honda singles remember + 122cc cannot not be bored out to a larger size (a recommended mod) without a new liner (or changing the barrel) I recently sold a TL125K1 (1974) to a friend for
  18. have a session on Google and came accross this excellent Austrian web site which along with some great pictures of Alta, Gaunt and Collier Suzukis, has (in German) some information on KTM trials bikes, with some pictures of bikes from 1975-77. Looks like there was a works team at the Scottish, but love to know if there are bikes around in the UK, or if anyone rode one ?
  19. there already seems to be some interest from the usual suspects on this little piece of (Welsh) trials history. whats the thoughts on this on a restoration project ? parts, originality etc ?
  20. hi the following sample will give you a black background with white text <html> <head></head> <body bgcolor=#000000> <font color=#ffffff> Hello world :-) </body> </html> Colors (sic) are defined in RGB (Red Green Blue) and the values are in (sorry about this) hexidecimal, base 16. Being a nerd i like this throw-back to the 80's, but understand the issues. #00 00 00 is Red Green Blue, each pair goes from 00 (dark) to ff (bright), Red is therefore #ff0000, blue #00ff00 etc etc to really improve the look and feel of your site would recommend two courses of actions: + use the open source motto, re-use rather than re-invent and look as some of the community offerings. For my site I use something called SPIP which is a French content management system and is easy to install on most provided web spaces + or get your head around stylesheets; and nick someone elses that you like option 1 is the way to go
  21. Thought I'd add my contribution to this thread, my SWM Jumbo, a recently completed first bike restoration. it doesn't match up to the quality of most of the bikes shown, but hopefully its going a usable bike for local trials. It seems that SWMs are easier to get parts for than Fantic's and Montesa's, so I would recommend them to anyone thinking of getting a twinshock and getting rid of the new mono with no soul Its been good fun to do, it is a money pit, but then I expected it. I've also found it useful to write up the project and it seems so have others. Blogging trials bike rebuilds seems to be popular, so happy for anyone to have a user name on my site to write up their projects. Finally, manythanks to Martin for all his help ...
  22. the bike inspection seems to be a decision made by the DVLA local office. At Worcester, you also had to submit your application and then make an appointment for an inspection, ie make two trips with associated queuing. The Cardiff DVLA office was expanded in December so had 4-5 people on the desk so queued for 5 minutes and the application took 10 minutes, and with no inspection required. Recommend it.
  23. sorry been away from TC (work made me). 50 miles on my SWM will be interesting; as long as fuel is sorted (I found an observer at the last minute last year) who went to the group after Top Farm; I just made it. Go for it, I should make it to Dovedale. BTW, the UJ is the same day as the Mitchell which is 5 miles from my house; riding is always better than watching, no matter how good :-)
