  1. The Sammy Miller 150cc conversion is _ok_ and my bike has this however it results in a liner you flex between your fingers ! Many people fit a thicker liner, the whole discussion on this is TL125 FAQ, but for sure the main benefit is getting rid of the idle-cough. I didn't need to change or re-jet the carb, but I did have to replace in the end with 1/2 a CB360 carb, as mine was knackered. Standard DR8ES plug seems to work fine (though TL125s can eat plugs on a trial) Dont do the disk conversion, not work the effort on what I am still saying is not the best 70's trials iron. See Article. Dont rechrome the forks, get some off a TY175 or 250 or ones that are more beefy.
  2. in the post this morning; number 57 with a 10.07am start. 200 is a "large entry..." forecast is still c**p so may drive up early Sunday morning now (wimp that i am)
  3. the whole issue of "value for money" is a little irrelevant with a restoration project anyway, but it does tend to make you hang on them rather than just selling them through. I am planning to give my TL125 a run at the North Hants trial at Crondall Woods on 30/May (next Wednesday afternoon/evening) as I work in Farnborough every so often. My mate Rog will also be wheeling his 1975 TL125 out for its (and his) first trial. If anyone else has a TL125 and is in the South East, maybe see you there (?). Its AMCA so no licence needed and the easy and middle routes are ideal for TL125's
  4. ah, I have sold 2 olther TL's I had, and have 3 SWMs in the barn, so I am moving the right direction I guess TL125's have their faults, to which my riding skills (or lack of) only exaggerate
  5. I like my Honda TL125, but why ? in an effort to find small engined Honda nirvana wrote the following article.... TL125...Why comments welcome....

    Tl 125 Head

TL125 124cc heads are hard to find in the UK (as are the cam's) and haven't seen any engines being broken of late (crappy TL's are now getting GBP 400-500). You could look at getting an SL,XL or CG head, but the cam profiles are different. Keep an eye out on ebay and some of the specialist breakers Not sure its possible to work on the single piece heads, though the post-76 split heads can have bushes made up AFAIK
  7. was contemplating camping on Saturday night, so any practical suggestions of where exactly much appreciated. I will bring my own burgers and some cider. Happy to meet up to talk cobblers.... Sent my entry off today (bit late) as have a free day Sunday, so will be heaving the twinshock round. Any tips and pointers (lap length, severity etc) welcome
  8. Have a look at Registering Classic Trials Bikes. You'll not need a dating letter for a 98, but instead will need a letter from the dealer/importer about Type Approval for road use (it would have been supplied with all the road kit originally)
  9. I've written a quick report on the trial, with some _personal_ comments with the results (of the lucky few that finished) Trial Report
  10. Channel 4 on now in the UK (21h00); trailer showed clips from "Kickstart", mainly for the joy of riders squashing their knackers on the log I would think
  11. ah, and as Barry didn't come, thought I'd do the injuries for him. enjoy the week :-)
  12. plenty of comments were made to the course plotter this week (like "its going to rain all weekend"). The last trial in April, also at Llywdcoed farm (at the bottom and middle parts) was won on the Sportsman route for "4" and Clubman for "10" or so...so its very much a weather thing I guess. its a balancing act (no pun intended), but there has been moves to stiffen up the sections in East South Wales and improve the level of riding, and I have been to some silly trials over the last couple of years, but todays is now in top place..... I agree a lot with your comments and hope you will come to the next trial (in August). I'll walk round, video the sections and put them on youtube before you come down....
  13. hmmm, how was it ? One of the more interesting trials days I've been to. 45 entries and only 8 finishers sums it up; really hard, it p*ssed it down all down (still raining here now). There's no doubt that the course was set up too hard and after two laps me and the SWM knocked it on the head afterII slipped off and getting a nice burn to my leg from the exhaust (infact its probably a scald due to my trousers being so wet) Think this will provoke some club discussion, the Sportsman (easiest) route was too tight and some had some interesting rock steps. Forecast for next weekend when the Mitchell is on the same ground is looking a lot better. The Expert route was really there a week too early. I am now off to Milan for work this week, mainly to dry out....and maybe hunt for some spares to get the bike running again. I _hope_ that the next Abergavenny trial doesn't see rain and is more sensibly set out
  14. enter on the day is fine...the day won't be. There shouldn't be too much mud though. Abergavenny Forecast...
  15. greetings... indeed not too many streams at Llwydcoed Farm (A465 from Abergavenny -> Hereford, turn left at Llanvihangel Crucorney should be signed from the road). I understand that Matthew Johnson is working and that Steve has set out the course, hopefully a different one from the Mitchell (at the same venue) next week :-) Plenty of rocky gulleys, steep banks and rocks forecast is for rain on Sunday, but the trial will run and ground is still _fairly_ dry. Observers welcome, but depending on numbers we'll ride as groups which makes it nice and social (allowing Barry to ride or take pictures?) see you all on Sunday

    Herd Of Swms

and don't miss the article in Classic Dirt Bike Magazine. Issue 3 dropped through the letter box today with a 5 page article and pictures of Martin's SWM Nice one Martin
  17. I may be in Fort William from Tuesday and because of the usual budget constraints and the need for a good nights sleep (4 hours sleep in 3 days last year after sharing a room with 2 very loud snorers) I will be camping; if anyone else is camping, what site will you be at ?
  18. ok, had to add some balance. Another clip from the Harry Perrey Trial, without any falling off or 5's It was getting towards the end of the day though ....
  19. Class 8 has been for any original twinshock and British Special since 2006 (the Spanish pre-75 was 2005 and before). Class 8 is now (no surprise) the largest class this year with 25-30 entries for the two rounds so far this year. I still haven't worked out an escape plan from a wedding in Cornwall so unlikely I can make it this year; I will be there in spirit and I am sure there will be an SWM being fixed round the course somewhere....
  20. after getting savaged by a rottweiler on Sunday, some of my humour about riding trials had left me, but after putting this clip together in the office today it renewed my faith This is why I ended up swimming in the stream on section 4 yesterday, laughing. A few people in the office heard Dale's commentary, came over for a look and also were rather interested, more in the falling off than the sport, but could see what fun it is. Ah well, feel better now.
  21. my usual procedure to rectify a no-spark bike; in order 1. plug: change it or at least have two to change around 2. points: check the faces of the points, they may need clearing up, Check the points gap (as describe). You may have a TDC mark on the flywheel, but you should get a feel for when the points open 3. condensor, could have blown 4. ignition coil, number of checks, including a check to see if its earthing correctly.

  23. looks like i will be up Tuesday -> Saturday and staying somewhere on the cheap, not sure yet. Will be taking van, potentially observing for a bit, so if anyone from Hereford or area etc wants a lift let me know.
