  1. you wouldn't even need the engine running. Just foot through with both hands on the handlebars whilst your feet are on the ground. TSR22b every time for me, though as per the comments on the Classic Experts video this isn't without some 'interpretation', though a lot less complicated.
  2. I would say a '5', in that the machine is touching the ground and though not literally 'footing' with feet, is using part of the leg to regain balance. TSR22a Failure © seems to be the about right. [1]. Interestingly, I did find out this year, that under TSR22a, stalling the bike and footing doesn't mean an automatic 5; if the rider can still exit the section by footing, then its a 3. [1] I've got the 2008 edition of the handbook, and i know there were a couple of changes for 2009, including taking a hand off the handlebar whilst not footing is allowed.
  3. As Malcolm says, its an excellent spot and though its currently 'quite wet' up in Craswell should be a good trial next weekend. There is a picture of the main streamway in a brief report on the twinshock.org.uk website. The Pampera would be alright on the easier Sportsman route, though maybe not with me riding it, and the Clubman route is on the sensible side given the conditions. See you all next Sunday !
  4. Hmm, I went climbing in El Chorro last year (April 2008) after spending 3 days drinking at a conference in Malaga, having not been the area for twenty years or so. The authorities have purposely blown up the first 40-50m of the path, so its an interesting traverse to get to the path proper. You have to dash up the railway line, across a bridge and through some tunnels to get to the start, with the interesting possibility of a large fine AFAIR. The climbing in the gorge is some of the best in Europe and the grades a bit out of my league nowadays, good to watch others climbing there now:

    If Big John

I'm sure that's the one used in the Porridge film, where Godber and Fletch 'accidentally' escaped during the football match...
  6. Further details on the ACU Western Centre Website New venue (Rockyfold Craswall in Herefordshire) and a Charity event.. Two routes (Sportsman and Clubman).
  7. I've owned a few TL125's and came to the conclusion that riding, fixing and prep'ing something else was easier (see article). You can spend a lot of money (a grand for a frame anyone?), but as mentioned on another thread on TC, people like Geoff Muston's have their's well sorted (and allegedly it still a 125) (pictures of Geoff in action at the 2008 Download, when it didn't rain) Having seen Mark Evan's KT250 reliably get round lots of Sammy Miller rounds over the last 3-4 years its been really reliable and a good 'clubman' bike, last seen at the Classic Experts. Spares for any twinshock bike (however exotic) can be found, as Woody says, and I even managed to source all the engine spares and more for myBeta TR240. Go for something different, and avoid the hordes on Honda TLRxxx's and Yam's and Majesty's. Garelli twinshock anyone ?
  8. looks good. Currently also in the market for a compressor and potentially wanted something for blasting cabinet , for which 10cfm required (afaik) also someone recommended Shiremoor Compressor who advertise in ClassicBike mag. Not sure how the prices stack up.

    Flywheel Removal

You may want to hold the flywheel with something (see my recent comment on this) and then give the spanner / socket wrench a sharp tap....this can help. It maybe the flywheel has been lapped in.

    Just A Thought

Whilst on the subject on SSDT entries, and the following came up during idle chat in the workshop end of last week, what or who was the last Twinshock to enter the SSDT ? and would any (foolhardy ?) rider be prepared to give it a go on a twinshock now. Well out of the range of my meagre abilities, but I'd be interesting in helping someone out who did want to give it a go....
  11. I've order the (cheap) tool as per bo_drinkers recommendation, as should do the job on the trials bikes (and only 4.99) Interesting that Sealey now do the tool, as I've also just ordered a flywheel puller set from them, which does some of the odd sizes (22/1.5) i currently use. thanks for the help
  12. Up to now, I've got away with using a Beta (orange, as in tool company) filter strap wrench to hold flywheels in place but in attempting to remove my flywheel from my Transalp on the weekend (not been off for 22 years), I broke it. I eventually achieved the desired result of removing the flywheel bolt with the use of a 1p coin. However, I've seen proper, heavy duty, metal band flywheel strap wrenches (i remember my old REV3 flywheel being jammed on with one), however can't find them for sale in the UK ? Anyone ?
  13. Thanks for link, book ordered direct from Tommy Sandham himself. I'll have to wait another 20 years for it to be worth
  14. Doing some research for my neighbour Gav, and looking for info for you in the know (or who have a copy Four-Stroke Finale) What year/season did Eddy LeJeune ride an RTL for the first time ? and does anyone know what the UK registration number (if it was UK) ? I am assuming on a B or a C plate ?
  15. right, time to find that TR34 engine in the shed.... Apart from the obvious, ie disk brakes, hydraulic clutches, twinshocks on a mono frame etc, its going to be difficult. For any series like the SM, you wouldn't need to scruitineer every event, but maybe 'clarify' if your bike is eligible and in which class it should be at the beginning of the season ? Submit photos etc ....if you want to score championship points.
  16. Doesn't stop enhancements and modifications though. To be honest, its all part of the sport (outside of the riding) and for rebuilding my Jumbo from scratch and then riding for a couple of seasons made it for me. I wasn't going to exactly win anything. Comparing my bike with Kevin Nolan's (and others) did make me realise what more i could have done (and how much more i could have spent) Perhaps the trials version of 'Scrapheap Challenge'; take 6 teams/riders, find ropey twinshocks (Montesa Cota 247, Honda TL125, Yamata TY175 etc) and then after 10 hours of workshop modification time, compete in a trial :-) Its probably true to say the best rider, rather than the best bike will win, but would be good fun.
  17. I think this machine eligibility is the 'change' I heard mentioned. I rode the SM series first in the year when all twinshocks were allowed (not just pre-75 Spanish) which I think is 4-5 years ago. Then there were lots of Brit bikes (standard or otherwise) but less than 10 riders in Class 8 (I used to score points in the rounds then :-). It has changed, and though for me personally, the bike i ride is irrelevant (I can drop lots of marks on any bike), but the standard of the rounds are right for me and lots of other riders who do find the Normandale series (with one route) a bit too hard (in some cases). Points arising, are the said Ariel's now not meeting eligibility, when they did before ? or are the rules now being applied ? Will taking Messers Wilmore, Gaunt and Hutty out of the pre-65 classes mean that there are more entries ? Will they now ride twinshocks anyway to compete (I know where there is an ex-works TLR250, cheaper than an Ariel :-) I like the idea of pre- and post-76 (* select your year) classes; maybe I will finish off that Model 80 project loitering in Gav's workhop then.
  18. I didn't ride the last two SM rounds last weekend (due to work commitments), but i here on the (non TC) grapevine about possible changes to machine eligibility for next year ? Just wondering if this is fact or fiction, or if there are any other changes planned ?

    Swm Plastic Tank

I chucked a plastic tank from a 320TL in the industrial dishwasher at work once and it came up really nicely. The respray option I saw on a Jumbo tank wasn't good (it was for sale around 3-4 years in Somerset, not Martin) and the Acerbis tank respray on my Beta has lifted in a couple of places. But as you say, a specialist will do a good job no doubt If you are redoing the frame, the guys at Redditch Shotblasting got the metallic blue spot, though i still have to get the RAL number they used. As you know, blogged my rebuild in 2006/7, though not up to neighbour Gav's concourse standards :-)

they existed 1973-74 AFAIK, dare i ask how much ? its on the want list :-), though i managed to avoid buying the Beta Enduro in Co Antrim on ebay last night

    Pampera Tyres

After my acquisition of a Pampera (see website) just wondering what tyres people are using for more general use, like some green laning, long distance trials ? I guess the cheaper (and hard wearing options are Pirelli's, though anyone tried the Bridgestone TW24 ?

  24. Spent some time today getting the pictures and words together as well as uploading some video to YouTube (need to get a better camera maybe) You can find the report on the twinshock.org.uk website. Really enjoyable day as always and good to see a healthy entry.
  25. My TL320 runs fine on 4 springs rather 6 for the clutch and yes the clutch cable entry hole does leak. My main issue with condensors failing, so interested in placing elsewhere. Anyone who's done it ?
