  1. I am pretty sure Keith Horsman is still alive and well. Some friends of mine had some work done on their classic bikes and I recall them saying this is the guy who did it. He still lives somewhere around Keighley, yorkshire. If somebody wants to send me an email address I will see if I can get contact details?
  2. Send me an email address and i will send you what I have. Managed to get 1/2 spare bike as well. That one had a clutch basket problem which seems a pretty standard problem on these. My lads has had a previous repair so go easy on the clutch. These are good engines, I rode a friends 80 gasgas 2001 alongside my sons 1990 fantic and the fantic had the better engine for pull. The gasgas was a minter as well, very surprised and disappointed of the gasgas.

    Smoky Bike

Give it a good thrashing and get some heat in the exhaust, awkward this time of year I know. My 290 sherco doesn't smoke but if I do a lot of big hillclimbs especially in milder weather the pipe must burn out its crud and then smokes like hell. A blast out now and then does it good
  4. On the news tonight Flappits is going to close in the next few weeks. This is after being used for 50 years so it said. Apparently the council is forcing its closure with ditches and possibly yellow lines to stop parking and access. I would think the police would then be obliged to enforce it so bikes potentially could be lost if you don't abide. This is ridiculous but Bradford council strikes again. I had a warning note ( not a section 59) logged the other week on another area. The officer was a trials rider and sympathised with the situation but the council are not willing to create areas that we can use. Obviously the council, not just Bradford, want to close motorcycles and the whole thing down and then they can't be liable. Where will all the bikes eventually go? Now for the "when I was a lad" bit. We use to have loads of places where you could go and do things like motorbikes, dens and bonfires etc. I struggle to think of anywhere now and they wonder why the places get smashed up and theres gangs hanging around street corners.
  5. I had one of those phantom dabs from some wooden wire wheel drum things and only fell 4' or so and twisted my knee and ligaments. It took 10 months for it to be something like. Picture what damage some of these offs could give you.
  6. I recently repaired a friends 08 250 with a similar fault. Failed rockclimb bike slides down finds grip and fires itself on full song to land on the gear lever. I stripped the crunchy box to find the only damage was the 1st gear on the layshaft had shattered. Lucky no bits had affected anything else. So maybe the box isn't over strong if you have a mishap.

    Hebo

I have a pair of Hebo boots that are not too old. Unfortunately I have damaged one of the ratchet strap tie buckle things that go around the calf. This would be an easy repair as you just pull one out and feed a new one in. Can somebody point me in the direction where I could acquire a new one from ? Thanks

    Should I Upgrade

I am in a similar boat as I have a 2003 290 and a friend is upgrading from a 2007 290. I have gelled well with my current bike and there is nothing wrong with it. Can anybody tell me if there is any real benefit from one to the other besides the rear shocker being adjustable? I have ridden it and its ok with slightly smoother delivery but in the dry I prefer mine. His seems to have persistent oil seal failure of the forks despite him and me seperately fitting new ones with a proper plastic tool. The legs are unmarked but still fail after a few outings. This is the main reason for him getting fed up with it. What do you think?
  11. I could weigh you a pw80 engine complete as I have a spare one. Any good?
  12. Yes tt5th has it pretty much spot on. I have a 2003 290 and run it at 80:1. 12.5 mls per litre. I usually make 4 litres up, so thats 50 ml of decent two stroke oil to 4 litres of petrol giving some slosh space in a 5 ltr can.
  13. How much gearbox oil do I need to put in my sons engine? We have just recently got the bike and I think it is a 7 series (247 307 etc), can anybody point me in the direction for specifications, capacities, torque settings etc. Thanks
  14. Give us more info on the noise. What sort of noise is it ? tinkle knock etc What volume ? loud background etc Is the bike moving or just fast idling on the spot ? with movement do's the noise happen in all gears etc. What about clutch plate movement? Do's light revs to induce the noise affect it if you pull the clutch in?
  15. You should have bought a beta? you would be used to it by now!
