from the insurance point of view, we need to prove that we've ahnded out the rules (ie give you a handbook or CD), the onus is then on you to use it. lots of it is not of use to most riders. but sometimes its a great contact directory, etc. alos if you want ot get real arsy and make a protest it explains all the steps and what you cna and can't do - for example grass trackers seam to protest all the time so its really useful to have the handbook about....

to win elections in the UK you propose new legisaltion - this has no bearing on the fact existing legislation exists to cover the problem, nor the fact red tape is strangling business and restricting peopl's civili liberties
don't you just love the nanny states
no one wins by saying we just need to get more bobbies out there on the beat ....

in English unless your at a 100% legit fully legal practise tracks i could think of one of several bits of legislation to prosecute you under
as above the first key step is the police reform act of 2002. a section 59 notification will be issued if you cause alarm to Joe public (ie breath) - ie you can't ride your bike anywhere including your garden
this is because 2ndly you can only use any bit of land (not in national park or SSSI) for 14/28 days a year (GPDO - General permitted development order) - ie that with the land owners consent.
even then if the place is a "public place" (no definition in law, presumably any open area anyone could walk into - so it would need to be fenced off to be excluded) then you 3rd party insurance (which is why you pay entry fees at events) - they could chuck the book at you for not having this
obviously the landowner would need public liability insurance
then if your going somewhere your not meant to be then the landowner could do your for trespass, and maybe criminal damage for cutting up their land, etc
as above, if you were on any part of the highway including paths and bridleway with a non road registered bike they can chuck the book at you, and even it was road legal footpaths and bridleways are illegal
under the 1993 (?) Road Traffic Act (RTA) you need to notify the police of any "event", by getting an ACU or AMCA (or some others) permits you can get out of this), but I'm sure having a few people practising might be classes as an event and you could be done under this
I've probably forgotten a few, and i bet the coppers don't use many of these (that why everyone gets away with it normally), and even then you could go all the way in court with some top notch barristers and cause grief (if you had more money than sense...)
-
exactly, but the formula works for explaining how motorsport events work (financially) across the world (for the tourist board, etc is the government)
-
someone has obvsiouly boosted the programes budget! building a space shuttel out of relaint robin, classic!
-
check out the eastern centre's website for some contacts - http://www.easternacu.info/
welcome to the south! (even if it is north of the river!)
-
what i was getting at it doesn't appear from the outside (don't really get many big trials down south - Thames have a BTC at Hook Woods so if free might be interesting) to be a cash cow for clubs to bank roll their other events, almost the opposite....
re the gov thing, what i was getting at is say in Northern Ireland (WTC), the Isle of Man(TDN), the channel islands (abortive WTC a few years ago), etc there *appears* to be more government help (eg its a tourist income generating machine) to facilitate if not underwrite/sponsor motorcycle sport
knowing in detail the finances behind all the events my club promotes the numbers for our trials against say our British MX championship round (8 to 10,000 punters) then maybe you see my slightly cynical outsiders take on it all

IMHO as the organiser of MX, Trials and Enduros any event has to break even
now how it does this this is IMHO by 3 key ways
1) the riders pay for it (ie entry fees covers costs) - therefore lots of riders
2) the punters pay for it (ie need big crowd - how do you get a crowd, etc)
3) someone else pays for it (ie sponsors or the government) - IMHO not going to happen in mainland England anytime soon
the British MX championship (my club runs a very successful round of) works on point 2, as i understand the British enduro championship works on point 1 by having a huge clubman entry
from my laid back outsides perspective the British trial championship fails on all 3 ...... call me a crazy, shandy drinking, southern fairy but i wonder how you lot even have a championship ???
-
Sorry, no offence Rabie, but the wording in the brackets made me laugh.
can't spell won't spell!
-
as above - TSR25 ties most of us down. most clubs then give you a tie.
for the local big pre65 (the Talmag), our sidecar trial (i was CofC ) and our LDTs have specail tests (IIRC for trials they might have to be something like less than 30 secs or 1 minute so they aren't a speed events).
there are pleanty of funky specail tests to try rather than just flat out, like up hill then dead engine down, ride to an exact target time , etc (i did a wrong way grass track on wet grass for the sidecars)
-
there is a whole group of trials clubs down there on the south coast that get together and run regular meetings with each other (the "South Coast Group" - http://www.motomerlin.dsl.pipex.com/scg/scg.html)
check out some local-ish clubs

there are a lots of ACU clubs slightly further afield, depends on how far you want to travel, but there is normally something on every weekend in Kent, Sussex and Surrey
I've ridden a Brighton group trial at Iden, and it was great fun (even if i cam spectacularly last!)
-
is it a serious motoring show - of course not!!! I'ld like to watch one, but its not going to be a ratings winner
Top Gear is a great huemrous "bokes" TV show, highly un PC, etc - but its a ratings winner on an otherwise (normally) dire night of the week
-
its a breach of the National Sporting Code (NSCs) to be absent (if you've singed an entry form) without providing an suitable/sufficient explanation.
for our oversubscribed centre enduro, our event secretary tends to prosecute those offenders....
-
OK I've started asking - The ACU are banned by National Council and/or the Directors from selling the membership database, but if they are notifying you of membership benefits then they haven't broken that imposition
what it does raise is the members haven't been asked the degree of email notification they would like to receive from the ACU, something I'll chase up
-
i'll ask about this problem up the chain of command , cheers kinell
-
AFAIK the ACU don't spam you intentionally, and don't sell the members database to anyone
thus I'm sure this is one of those renaming scams to make it look legit - it would be nice if someone posted up the headers
if this is however some sort of intentional spamming operation I've enough contacts to rock the boat to stop it happening again
-
the shadows are also of some big building (so when compounded with the winter, 3-4pm thingy) - to the left of blackfrias bridge is the sea containers HQ (IIRC) and to the right is Tate modern in the old power station (a mini batersea power station design)
-
for something really radical, here is an idea we southern stirrers have been toying with for some time
if the system is so good, big and automated (and the handbooks mailed separately), why can't we offer rolling membership, based upon date of birth. pros - spreads load evenly throughout the year. con - when the idiot riders produces his card collection of the last 10 years ACU license and 20 different club cards from the half dozen club they belong to, how do fish out the right one? (ie 2007 is red, etc)
-
email me - jamie_clarke28@hotmail.com - and i'll forward your details on to the right people (Peter Burton or Peter Burrell and others) for the next seminar. otherwise PM or phone me (see contact details on the Sidcup website)
-
ROFLOL !!! - if you ever see me ride you'll soon realise i've no hope of ever getting anywhere in any motorcyclesport (well not the level of the rest of them!)
-
i'll forward that on to some intresting locals back home, good find!
-
I asusme your in the UK
look in TMX classifieds
look at sidecartrials.com
speak to other people with sdiecars who tend to know someone one, somewhere with one
-
they've been on top of card renewal for some time now, (like way back in early December people were getting their renewals). i was at rugby last weekend and they weren't done yet....
problem is there is a tendency to think the road race / MX season hasn't started yet, plenty of time.....
but on a cost front, they are cost conscious at the ACU but IMHO its better that people can ride event with the right card on Jan 1st rather than be waiting for a handbook
-
cheers for that
some of the spelling may have been me typing it up off the trophy, but some of it was how it was engraved
i've got all the info as an excel file, along with several other awards that the Sidcup club have (and the Inter Centre MX trophy)
