  2. Good to si thi posting again lad, thought tha mebe went un died on us er sumat. Are you going to come ower and see mi this next year er wot.
  3. Sorry Tim, do they have trials in South Africa I would like to go to Newzeland, just from the scenery in the LOR movies.
  4. Nick, they drive on the right side of the road in the USA, how can it be the wrong side if it's the right Seriously though, a lot of people could do trials exchanges from the US and UK, bike lodging and an event. Same language, "well sort of" untill they buggered it up it was the same. I have posted before I would host someone who wanted to take in an event and see what it's like over this side of the pond. School kids do it all the time, why not trials riders.
  5. Should be a perfect machine for the Scottish Sunt, only problem I see with the new mont is they can't make em fast enough at the moment. I'm looking forward to having a ride on one, Dennis, the lad who was over riding the 04 ssdt , he is the parts distributer for Montesa USA, his place is only half hour away, he should have a test bike as soon as they get ower here, great practice area at his house lots of mud and slippery streams. I don't know if Martin, the US importer is shipping by air or sea, but air is more expensive and adds to the cost, sea takes about three weeks, then costoms, so I doubt I'll even see one this side of the new year. I don't think in all my time riding trials I have seen a bike stir up the emotions like this one has, for or against, the truth is most of the world hasn't even seen the bugger yet let alone rode one Publicity good or bad is publicity
  6. I would of been a full blown Montesero from day one of the 315, but just couldn't get on with the feel of the front end, the bike didn't like me. Build quality, performance, suspension, all top notch didn't even come into the equation, tried each model year and got the same feel so never owned one. My 89 RTL way out of date but I have still to find a bike that steered better. The lads who are switching from the 315 will be as happy as a pig in sheet. From reading the test rides about the Sherco fourstroke, it's sounds like the same deal, the feel of the bike is like the 2.9, and that's where I'll be when they come out for that reason, the feel of the bike. Some will buy the new four stroke and the first few weeks it'll be the dog's, after the initial buzz has worn off and it isn't that rare to see them at an event some lads will move back, the biggest factor I think is keeping twostrokes around for those guys who prefer them, the loophole may be for off road use only like MX bikes but at least they will be around. I'm a fan of the fourstroke but realistically don't expect Sherco or Montesa to be outperforming the two strokes this year in top class events or the club/center rider improving big time, will it stop me buying one, no!! because the level I ride at it doesn't matter a toss and just adds to the enjoyment having a choice of two or four stroke. I agree with Nigel, what the importer or sponsored rider say will always favour the brand the are connected with, it's thier job. The true and fair indicator of how good the 4 stroke bikes are, will be sales in 06. My advise on buying the Mont or any other for that matter, give it a go!! and if you like it buy it.
  7. Shed full of both 2 strokes and 4. 250 and 125 four bangers can take the edge off the rear tyre/tire 50% faster than the 125 / 2.9 two strokes. WHY!!!!
  8. Eddie the eagle of trials!! Gav, concider the source. He didn't take it off, he lost the bloody mounting bolts when he was cleaning it
  9. It does attract some big names. Doug on 27 he has won many a world round on a lot less, if the club are aiming for that, then it's spot on. I used to ride the event and it was based more on who could get done fastest to get the first round in, I even remember Tow, doing a forward flipp in the milk van coming down the hill
  10. BS, you obviously never ridden the event When our lad and his mate say it's F stupid it must be a tad on the hard side
  11. leave the bugger on, unless you intend to ride the rest of it's life on dry rock in southern Spain.
  12. Very good point Andy, but I don't think the problem is with the markers as much as where you place them. Often with a little thought a marker can be placed so the rider still has to ride the obstacle but the marker is out of harms way. Never put a marker where it will be close to the best line to take. Never put a marker on a loose obstacle that is likely to dislodge and fall down. Never make the marker the obstacle, many a five has been earned by a rider riding the same line as a previous rider who cleaned the section only to gets a five because the marker decided to fall over when the passed it.
  13. I just found that RYP USA has started a new forum. Now you can ask the man himself how to setup your sherco and prep for compitition. You don't have to be a Sherco owner to ask about riding tips, many of you bought the RYP training tape, any questions ? why not ask him. http://www.rypusa.com/forum/index.cfm?page=home
  14. Steve I here Dennis Sweeten has them instock at Apex sports. Shop # 503 723 7080
  15. Having traced the steps of our ancestors from Europe to the west coast of the colonies, I think I deserve a good turkey dinner this thanks giving. They persevered across the Atlantic ocean in wooden boats enduring dysentery and other horrible conditions to land on the Americas to endure another 3000 mile journey to the west coast, attacked by natives, starving and robbed by the Mormons in Salt lake, a journey of many months before they reached the land of plenty. Daft buggers!! if they had of waited a bit they could of flown economy in 12 hours and still got a big turkey dinner, I did
  16. I would say it is harder to do it without stopping and correcting your mistakes. The FIM have allowed stopping without penalty for the last two seasons When someone does finaly come up with the answer, will you give me a call
  17. Just received my 04 Duluth world round DVD, only watched the first day so far, but what a cracking trial. The rain may of spoiled it for the spectator, but the sections were brilliant in those condition. Doug, looked to be riding spot on, the crash and a five after, that! I would of put down to being shook up by the crash, then a chain off between two little rocks in a stream, just wasn't going to be his day no matter what he did. Best looking trial English type trial I have seen in another country, won't miss 05 thats for sure. Ho and get the DVD by trials TV, well worth it!! yours is on the way Kinnel.
  18. Harder compound tyres was discussed as a way of slowing down/easing section severity, as before some will end up with a cheater sticky and the rest the old stiff mudplugger. I'm probably way off and trials is thriving, wonder what brought the latest post on news feed on the front page of TC
  19. I'm not saying there shouldn't be a clubmans course, I'm saying the section difficulty for classes like the champ, master, expert should be at a level aimed at the center of the pack not the best rider. I used to put quite a few National events on in this part of the world, but as things have got more complex I just got to the point it isn't worth the effort anymore. It would be nice if world and club events didn't impact each other but they do!! a good example is the Bradford club running the boxing day trial full FIM rules two years after they actually came into being, what caused this change of heart? is it pressure from the club rider or pressure from the top few? Looking at next years WR calendar, less events half of em one day events why!! surely if the sport was moving forward this wouldn't be the case. In all reality how world championships or nationals go doesn't really effect what I do as a rider, I just seem to be loosing interest more and more on how the top end of the sport is doing, maybe it's just I'm getting old, but I don't see any of the trick riding kids sticking the section markers in.
  20. Some good points there Woody. This is a good topic and I think it applies world-wide, when governing bodies address a problem they focus on the individual problem and often miss the cause or the reason why the problem arose in the first place. If riders are taking too long in a section a simple and obvious cure is give them less time, instead of getting into the reasons for why they take so much time like are the sections too long or so difficult they have to be ridden like three individual sections. There is a big conflict of interest at the top in championship events and by making them close to impossible to all but a few gets rid of competition so the format of ridiculously hard sections works well for the top factories and top riders. Just taking the form of the top riders riding the SSDT, the highest ranked world rider in the event is more often the event winner than not!! but is put under a lot more pressure by more riders because of the type of section. I don't think the British championship or any other national championship should be decided on sections with a difficulty level the same as the ssdt, but I do believe there is a level of section difficulty that would still take marks of the top riders and allow more riders to compete. Probably halfway between the champ class and expert class, do all the sections need to be killers to find a winner? In the years I have followed trials the biggest changes are section difficulty and amount of riders taking on those section, cost to promote the events for fewer riders, and the decline of events and spectator participation. The question the governing bodies should be asking is what is best for the sport, not individual riders. Could the old Brittish national trials sort a winner of the championship, they used to [has any rider ever cleaned one?] Why not have a few rounds of each and see what the results are.
  21. Has it though eddy, Steve Saunders was the best rider in the country at that time and won the championship riding a course that 100 other lads could ride. Now the best competing will still win the championship but only a dozen or so will attempt to ride, would you say this is moving on?
