My lad has been riding one for about 12 months now and they are certainly different to ride than fully geared bikes.
We found the stock gearing was a bit high so geared it down by putting a LARGEr rear sprocket on (almost as big as the rear wheel!!) and this has helped, (A 60 tooth one I ordered directly from Talon, also needed a longer chain)
Slow speed riding is still a bit of an art though!
The older bikes seem to be a lot softer in terms of throttle response and dont seem to need the constant on/off that the 2006 bike does.
As with most things time on the bike will help the most.
Have fun!

As someone who is actively involved with the running of trials, and having noticed a steady increase in the attendance levels, I was wondering if there was any merit in a central database, where club officials could post the number of riders that have attended their events.
This would surely help us all get an idea on the number of active riders (possible geographic/demographic details may be interesting too).
Anyone have any ideas on how this data could be EASILY collated or other thoughts?
(p.s. before the rumours start I am NOT trying to sell anything and would only be interested in rider counts, not names, addresses, boot preferences etc!!)

Hi Jamie
bit further North, but Manchester 17 run Dead Easy trials which would be ideal to get back into the swing of things, all welcome and sensible sections.
Check out their website for dates etc: Manchester 17 MCC

one thing is to check your PC BIOS isn't set to boot from your USB devices (e.g. if you have a usb memory stick assigned as drive letter E:, ensure your PC isn't trying to boot from E: first).
What exactly do you have connected via your USB's?

To save you the hassle of shipping one over from the States, most UK online Computer stores will stock them, look for "PC Cooling Fans" (think its the case fans you will need). (Misco, Ebuyer etc etc)

Provisional results and photos now available on our website, http://www.manchester17.org.uk/

you should be fine, the venue isnt as big a lap as the Macc one, or Haslin that we also use for the Dead Easys. The trial WILL be clearly signposted off the A623.

Paul
me again! Cant find this thread could you tell me what the solution was? Fed up of spending 10 minutes trying to kick the bike up when its been dropped (saying that, I find it easier to use my hand on the kickstart, rather than my size 11 Alpinestars!!)

cheers for that Paul, will give it a go.

Not a good thought that Mac, you in a nurses outfit!! Sure you will make up for the missed trials when she's better.

The Manchester 17 club are being brave and running TWO trials this weekend, the final round of the club championship at Hawks Nest nr Buxton on Saturday (4.00pm) and a "Dead Easy" format trial on the Sunday at Haslin, nr Buxton (11.00am).
Quick question though, is there anyone planning on riding either of them, or are you ALL at Hawkstone???

We are now ensuring the trials part of the website is regularly updated, so keep an eye on it for Man17 results/reports & pictures!

Paul
could you tell me where you got the Tallon sprocket from (was it direct from Tallon) and also whether it is a stock sprocket?
cheers

sorry if this has already been covered, but I've been away!!
Saw a re-run of last weeks "Vroom Vroom" program, "Skys" attempt to emulate the success of Top Gear etc.
Anyway they had a small piece on trials riding, the usual half hearted, unresearched effort but with Dougie roped in and doing his best to explain the sport and help some dizzy-ass woman (no disrespect to ANY lady riders intended, but she was annoying) having a go at a "section".
Anyway was reasonably ok as it started off by showing some of the extreme world round stuff etc but went down hill rapidy as the narrator described that there were approx 30 clubs in the UK(!?), the cost of riding a trial is

We at Manchester 17 always have machine examing at the start of the Dead Easy trials. We have a lot of new riders and younger riders so we give their bike and riding gear the once over, to ensure it is adequate and safe.

2 wild horses with Fatima Whitbread's thighs couldnt stop the drag on it, I know i've been daft enough to ride it!!

Glad you enjoyed it, makes the weekend spent in the rain organising it all worthwhile. Remembered I am actually away to the SSDT (watching NOT riding!) so will miss the next Dead Easy and will miss the Macc one too. Man17 is fortunate though as they have a lot of active members who are always willing to help!
-
You dropped 42 according to the draft results.
-
cracking ride to drop just 5, well done. Hopefully see you at the next Dead Easy trial 1st May?
