At 40 years old, Dougie has just won his 10th SSDT title

 

Dougie just didn't 'win' it, by a narrow margin, he dominated the week and in the end won by 9 marks

 

Nobody else ended up dropping less than 20 marks, for the whole week and some 180 or more sections

 

To my mind (I might be biased) he the best all-round Trial rider, the sport has ever seen

 

He's had a long and illustrious career, with 12 indoor and outdoor World titles, plus British championships, Scott Trial wins and of course SSDT wins and Trial des Nations team wins

 

As an all rounder, I think he is the best of the best - the most 'complete' rider in the sport to date

And he's a gentleman and a gentle man.

I would be highly interested to see what Toni Bou could do in those wet, slippery conditions. Either way, I would agree that Doug is definitely the most complete rider not only due to his skill, but the fact he's developed a bike, managed a team and also been actively trying to expand the popularity of the sport with his videos. Also really humble to boot.

We are in a different age now, since 1990's

Back in Sammy's day we didn't have Indoor Trials which is a whole different type of Trials competition

I think he'd admit Doug was a Trials all rounder - a winner in every facet of the Trials discipline

Doug is a mega star no doubt, however Sammy won a GP road race and Six Day Enduro gold medals so is perhaps the more "all rounder".

I'm talking Trials all rounder and not bike sport in general

However Doug has done ok in Enduros

I have had the good fortune to meet both Mr Miller and young Douglas Lampkin. People say you should never meet your heroes, but I say choose your heroes well and they will not disappoint you. Both excellent ambassadors and role models in a wonderful sport.

In a nutshell yes - It would be interested to see the likes of Toni Bou in the Scottish - and whether he would even get a top 5.

 

Clearly Sammy Miller in his day was a top man as well - but I think Doug edges it.

 

Hope he can also teach my son is doing a course with him this summer.

Erm... Jarvis has won. More than once (or twice, or even thrice...)

 

As for Bou and or Raga, I think people are kidding themselves thinking they wouldn't crush everyone else. Riding a bike is riding a bike. But I suppose it's all conjecture until they actually go do it. But I don't think they will. Unless Honda or TRS decides it's an event important enough to them to send their factory riders, they won't go ride it until after they retire (assuming they'd care at that point).

Cabestany rode in 2010 and finished 9th. Helluva difference between Scotland and what the Spaniards are used to riding.

 

I was going to point out exactly the same as Andy. Cabestany rode Scotland and fair play to him but was never going to threaten the winner. Similar thing to Fuji in the Scott. He was certainly moving when he thrashed past me but given his status should have won it!

I think if bou and raga turned up to ride Scotland last week doug still would have beaten them, it's just not their terrain.

We have to remember when doug was at his peak he was thrashing all the worlds best on there own terrain but colomer etc never beat him over here!
