I have been told to run my 1990 TY250 pinky on a mix which ranges from 35:1 all the way up to 70:1! Am looking to see what other people run theirs on please cheers

Does anyone have a contact at Betor Shocks? A little more than a year ago I bought a pair of Betor shocks for my TY80. When the shocks arrived I had the wheels apart and was getting the rims chromed and installing new spokes. The wheels were completed, new tires installed and shocks installed in August 2010 and the bike was ridden about 20 minutes. The seal in one shock started leaking and there is a green piece of rubber sticking out from inside the seal. I returned the shock to Matt at Speed and Sport where I bought the shocks and he has been trying since October of 2010 to have his distributor replace the shock. I know this topic was debated at some length recently and there seemed to be two camps. the yeah why nots and the not in the spirit guys. Well i have decided to break the TY250S i bought recently as now i have the Pinky i will keep some bits for spares and sell the rest. If anybody wants a frame to convert, thereby saving their mono frame so they could always convert back if they wanted to, then i have one for sale. TY250S c/w swingarm pivot etc powder coated red. Will also be putting the rest on e bay in a couple of weeks. Just thought i would offer the stuff here first. If nobody wants any of it no problem just thougt i'd mention it.

hi friends, if anyone could help a newbie out and talk me through changing an oil seal on the clutch actuator arm id be very very chuffed and extremely grateful. if its super easy then please excuse my ignorance but im just getting started with the spanners! i don't want to bite off more than i can chew but its dripping oil from the clutch actuator arm. Ive found a long crack in the rear brake backing plate on my '74 TY250. It seems to be full thickness crack. Can this be welded or do I source another 1?

Split my TY250 crank (bearings were bad). Marked it good for re-assembly but would really like to have any suggestions on "Tricks" to ease the re-assembly process. I'm still concerned about getting it aligned correctly. Thanks in advance. Alan

The Yamaha manual for the TY175 show a specific puller for pulling the crank into the left hand case does anyone have dimensions or a photograpgh of one it looks fairly simple to make from the line drawing in the book but it would be nice to have some measurements

Hi, I am a newbie member but I have purchased a Yamaha TY 175 1980 to do some twinshock trials for fun. I have stripped the bike down for a light restoration, but on removing the flywheel cover spotted some black silicone to the front and slightly above the front sprocket and behind the clutch adjustment screw/bolt. Removing the silicone revealed what looks like Quick Steel type repair putty had been used. The bike had not been leaking from this location, and the area of damage looks quite small. My concern is that in this location there appears to be a small steel cap pressed in to the aluminium casting, what is this for? Am I OK to ignore it as the sproket seems to rota…

I have noticed underneath my 88 TY 250 s there are 2 drain bolts. The first is in the middle at the rear of the engine, the Gearbox Drain Bolt. I have used this to drain the oil from the clutch and gearbox. The second bolt is smaller and underneath the crank. www.tytrials.co.uk list is as Crankcase Drain Bolt. What is this for? Does the crank have it's own oil, or is it for draining fuel oil which has found it's way into the crankcase? Finally I am pretty sure my rear shock has started to leak oil, is this servicable or should I look for a new unit. Thanks in advance

Hello all, I am a recent new member of this website and have been reading about the TY250 in particular since I bought a 1974 version in very sad condition. It was seized solid in the top end and sat for a few decades with the plug missing. It took every trick I knew to get the cylinder off and when l cleaned up the crankcase I found three or four of the stuffers had come free from the crank. I split the engine cases a few days ago to replace the mains and now I have a chance to replace those plugs. My question is, is it necessary to replace them? Can I use wine bottle corks with a few coats of varnish? Where do I even get these things? Does any of you even know what I’m …

Hello. I've got to put me cylinder head back on and I dont have a torque wrench, yet. I've got to get out this weekend or Iam going to blow. Is there any sort of way I can do this by hand with out destroying anything. Cheers. Squid.

So it came out like you all said, WD-40, a mallet and a little patience. I have to be honest, the barrel and piston look to be in GREAT shape. . . i think. Ive added a couple pics of the piston and i'll do the same when I clean out the barrel. How's it look to you guys?? So whats next? I wasnt able to get the crank shaft moving?? Could the bottom end be siezed also? How can I check? If I can get the crank to move up and down, im going to be REAL excited! So any advice on where to go next? How can I get the crank to move? I have been In touch with Yamaha to confirm in writing the year of manufacture for my 1974 ty250. They said that they can not supply the date of manufacture only the model year! Will this be enough for the dvla or will I need something else? Here is there reply.

hi my yam 250 has totally miss matching frame and engine numbers the frame starts 493 301 9** and the engine number is 434 101 06* would this have been the right engine? if not i need the date of the frame and the date of the engine incase the parts are different i trhink ive got the frame as a 78/79 but thats as far as ive got cheers mick
