Time to go through the front forks. Has anyone had any luck with bearing suppliers getting the correct sized seals rather than getting the official Yamaha parts? I live in a large metro city with several good industrial supply warehouses. Thanks

I used to browse the French ForumTY.com before (translated), but now I cant access the topics as it requires a login. I cant seem to get the gist of registering to this site, it seems it requires a Paypal donation or such? Am I reading this right and this is the intention, as the google translator is at times vague?

Hi Just putting my bike back together after a complete strip down (its a road registered TY250 Mono) The frame number is almost invisible, as far as I am aware the MOT tester has to input the frame number into the computer before testing. As far as I can see the options I have are: 1. Leave as is - the number will disappear completely when the frame is painted although the bike does still have the riveted on aluminium plate with the number on. 2. Restamp the numer into the frame - i've seen number punch sets for sale on the web - I assume the style will be slightly different from the original - will this look a bit dodgy? Has anyone else had this problem or know the…

I have a 1976 TY250 and a 1976 TY175 with 250 forks. Each bike has the same issue with very poor front brakes. Holding the brake arm by hand locks the wheel pretty good – though I know it is not the same as when under riding load. My feeling is that the issue is with the cable. I purchased an OEM front brake cable for the 175 (the 250 is stored elsewhere at this time) as the old one had snapped at the perch as I was muddling with trying to get the brake to work better. The old one was not OEM. Oddly, The new cable does not fit into the 'Cable Joint' that is attached to the brake arm. The slot is too narrow. Checking part numbers, the 175 and 250 run the same cable. I orde…

The front brake on my recently acquired TY 175 is beyond poor, even for a "modern" drum, much worse than I recall from the day. All seems OK with plenty of meat on the shoes and careful setting up but I'm going to try new shoes. Does anyone's experience with these show that one make of replacement shoe is better than another and, if so, which is the one to go for? Thanks

Has anyone tried the Miller chrome front pipe on their 175. As I have fitted a WES rear, and my existing one hasn't got a lot of metal left after 31 years just curious as I was thinking of getting a Miller one. So rather than order one and get it shipped to New Zealand to find its not suitable! or has anyone got or made an alternative?

HIya...a post on behalf of a mate!!.. any help greatly appreciated. The front wheel rim on his TY250 mono (1983 we think) is badly rotted. Its a 32 spoke drum brake. Just wondered. We will try to look around for another used 32 spoke rim here that might suffice...but were also thinking maybe its worth going the whole hog and trying to fit a different wheel+hub altogether..one with a disc even. Any ideas on this....(Oh! and as is often the case..this will be done with as little money spent as possible..!!)

TY250 Pinky Can anyone shed any light on how to get the front wheel off without resorting to a lot of swearing and large hammers!? I have one of the forks off which is the side which doesn't have the disc brake, this slid off easily after undoing the clamp.Ddoes the spindle on the disc brake side unscrew with the large star bolt or is removed another way?, If it unscrews using the large star bolt then I will get one to fit but wanted to make sure I wasn't barking up the wrong tree before I did. This is the last part of the bike to come apart before the rebuild can commence!! Thanks

On turning the fuel tap on I noticed petrol pouring out of the carburettor breather pipe at the bottom of the carburettor? Is this because the needle and seat is not shutting off?

I understand the Mini Majesty was a little bit shorter in the wheelbase than the full-size 175, and straight front downtubes. Are there any other differences? How would the Mini perform with an adult rider (75kg approx, 5'9")? Would it be too light on the front on climbs?
