Hey guys, I’m new here and new to building this 2 stroke Yamaha. My neighbor was moving out and asked me if I was interested in his old bike, it was in pieces and missing a couple parts, but over all it looks like with some time and effort it can be back to running! Plus I’m out of projects right now so what the heck! anyways, I was in the middle of tearing down the engine to clean and rebuild, he already had the cases split and they came off with just hitting them slightly with a mallet. I’ll got the other case completely stripped except for a few bearing, but I’m stuck on taking out the primary drive gear from the crank shaft, just here to ask if there any way…

Hi all trying to change seals on front forks but when turning bottom a hex bolt, damper rod is turning as well, looking down the fork top of rod doesn’t appear to have any way of stopping it turning I:e hex key etc, Any ideas Thanks Les

I have a 1974 yamaha ty250 . Does anyone know of anything to make it more snappy and powerful..It's on it's 2 nd overbore. I already has boysen reeds and a reed spacer .I also added a Sammy Miller silencer.It is already pretty good ,But i rode a ty at a trials and was amazed.in the difference in mine and the other one.The owner said he bought it that way. Anything will help Thanks

Trying to remove the piston from my front forks. I believe I need to hold the top of the piston while unbolting from the bottom. My 175 has a stub and I customized a socket to hold it. The 250, as well as I can see, has no stub and my tool does nothing. Does anyone know a good method to hold the top of the piston? Thanks,

Hi team, Had an issue with my TY, engine ran away due to leaking crank seals, totally leaned the poor thing out and had to stall it to stop the engine. Replaced seals and upon re start very noisey, struggling to idle and noticing movement in the head and barrel so presumIng I have stripped the head studs. Has anyone else experienced this? I have ran across a discrepancy in what I have and what I have read and seen. I have a stock and aftermarket stock size pistons. Both have the windows on one side and the arrow on the other. The parts diagrams I have looked at all show the arrow and windows on same side facing forward toward exhaust. Am I missing something or is something not right here. I am about to put the piston in with windows toward exhaust but the arrow will face back which goes against every piston I've ever installed.

I really like the looks of the Shedworks Tank/Seat combination; however, I can't figure out if it is compatible with the 1974 TY250? I struggle to understand what is compatible with the rear fender that uses the fiberglass seat pan. In all the pictures I see it seems the models are later versions, with a different rear mudguard and I can't find this other mudguard for sale (I have the short mudguard where the air box is part of the rear mudguard). Is a different rear fender needed for this to work? Is the stock air box compatible with the Shedworks setup? I also see majesty style aluminum tanks that look good, they seem to use a different rear fende…

As of today, I am the proud owner of a very nice 1974 TY250A. It has some minor work to be done but very little use and all original. Unfortunately, I need to revisit the question many of you see a lot. Where can I find a "owner's manual", photo copied or otherwise? I have tried a number of sources and internet searches to no avail. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Good evening folks. I'm in the process of rebuilding an American import 1974 Ty 250 which turned out to have a 320 piston and barrel, it had a fair amount of piston slap so it's been rebored by Nigel Birkett to second oversize and is now up and running. However, it suffers from pre-detonation, a leaded additive for the fuel has helped but it still bangs away sometimes and is fitted with a black coloured 'JT'carb'. Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction and confirm what carb and jets it should have as well as how I stop the detonation? Many thanks. Pete.

Hello all! Does any one know where i can pick up a set of new fork caps for my 1974 Yamaha TY250. They are extremely Bunged up from years of use and abuse or does any one know if another set would be compatible from another bike. Any suggestions or leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jon

hello all, I have just bought a ty 175 for twinshock trials with the local club. after some shed time and research time, the bike has the following faults: * autolube has been removed, leaving the autolube pipe unplugged and hanging off the carb * exhaust baffle had been squashed closed in a vice * a piece of sponge as an air filter * blow by on the piston when viewed from the exhaust port * although it did run ok, the bike refuses to idle unless the choke is on / idle screw removed and hole blocked with finger * what appeard to be play on brake side rear wheel bearing, but was play between brake drum and wheel. Silly question here! Has anyone ever placed a 4s engine in a TY 175? I have this 175 but it needs motor and exaust, I see so many XR 80 thru 200 motors on Ebay for cheap, just wonder if this has been done? sam

I am really having trouble finding used fuel tanks in decent shape for my '76 TY projects (250 and 175). Are there other options if I want to stay with steel or aluminum? Thanks, Tom

Hello. I'm a new member here and am working on my dad's 76 TY175. He had broken the frame muffler mount many many years ago and had just bailing wired the muffler up to the frame and now that I'm working on getting it running again, I want to fabricate a new muffler mounting bracket that is welded to the bottom of the rear-right seat frame tube. Would it be possible for somebody to draw or trace that small triangular bracket and email it to me so I can reproduce it (somewhat) and weld it to the frame? Thanks for any help or references provided.

Hi all, I've bringing another TY175 back to life and am looking for a low budget rear sprocket, steel if possible but I'll take aluminum if that's the only option.The bike has currently has a vintage "PBI 7033-49" aluminum sprocket, PBI still sells these for about $60 shipped. I just tried a JT Sprockets JTR1842-49 ($20) which is supposed to fit, the holes line up however the sprocket is milled very thin where it meets the hub so the bolts wont seat all of the in. Unless there's a aftermarket spacer or something to get I'll have to return the JT sprocket. I plan on calling JT Monday morning (they are made in USA) and asking them for details as well. Here'…
