  1. Hey all, Hoping I can get some replies here! I’ve have a ‘74 TY250 for about a year. Took it out for a single ride other than up and down the road and around the property (moo), it was so much fun. Can’t wait for the upcoming season. two questions: 1. i purchased it for $1300. It came with an entire other bike’s worth of parts. Wheels and tires, gas tank, etc. All except the engine that was destroyed when it got wrapped around a tree. What’re your thoughts on that price for the bike and parts? I thought it was a steal. 2. I get voltage spikes on throttle and keep blowing bulbs. I replaced the condenser, contact breaker, and spark plug today and the th…

had the ty 80 out in a field learning gears etc and there is a large amount of oil running from the silencer and in the air ending up as black spots all over the wee lads back. obviously the first thing I think of is mixture of fuel. Currently running at 40:1 motorex 2t fully synthetic what is the proper ratio ? best way to get exhaust cleaned out ? any other ideas

Having picked up a rather nice TY80, I've a few questions and wondered if anybody would be kind enough to take some time and answer any if you can I'm keen to establish what year it is, I've had a look round net and drawn a blank. The frame No is 451-107041 The original autolube 2t system still seems to function fine, is it worth leaving be or blanking this off and mixing my own fuel? On the subject of 2 stroke oil, what's recommended oil to use and approximately what mix is used if the oil pump is removed? Gear Oil, the manual recommends 10W/30, any other recommendations on oil? Many thanks in advance Gordie

Hi guys. Bear with me as I'm new to forums and probably not the sharpest tool in the shed! I have a TY250 mono (1987) with plastic tank. As you all know (as do I now!) plastic tanks can't be painted without blistering at a later date; so my question is ..... what other TY tank (steel/alloy) if any, will also fit the mono? Is it a straight swap or are mods needed? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Is the standard rear rim a WM2 or a WM3, mine looks so small. I think I think they had a 3.50 tyre out of the factory. I wonder if this would stop rear tyre roll with the IRC tubed 4.00x18 if I changed to an good valanced WM3 tubed type rim??? Or would I be better off running a tubeless WM3 rim and tubeless IRC with a tube? I know some will think it's cheating but can I go full tubeless rim and tyre? Cheers Bill

Just a quick question. Do all Ty 250 twinshocks have the same left side mag cover. ? Some photos that I have seen have a round cover with a center bump like a TY1 75. Other photos show a smooth cover that runs back to cover the counter shaft sprocket. Thanks for your time.

the tank i was derusting is now all clean and shiney and sealed ready for the off...ish..(thanks to the TC mafia for getting this far and Wyldes for supplying the necessary goo) the frame i am putting it on has the bulky yamaha fuel tap very close to the cylinder head.. so anybody know the size and / or even the thread of the fitting for the fuel tap so i can try to source an smaller alternative.. or even know of a tap i can use as an alternative?

  15. Started by ty_steve,

As I simply can't get myself to fork our the 200+ dollars for a new kick start on my TY 175 I have to ask the question - what are my alternatives??? Will any newer model kick starts fit, say something from a newer bike, different manufacturer etc? How about from the TY80? The TY80 kick start look much stronger, albeit a little shorter, and they are cheaper and readily available (at the moment at least). The TY 175 looks (and was) kinda weak... Anyone??

Hi. Can someone please tell me what the optimal squish is for my 1978 TY175 running on standard unleaded fuel? I plan on removing the head gasket as a starting point. I dread to ask but i will, what is the consensus on premix ratio using Castol A747 for trials riding??? Is Silkolene acceptable to Yamahas? That's it. Thanks

A fellow trials rider (a very competant one!) has a TY200 Majesty. Although the bike goes OK (he is also a good mechanic), he feels the standard airbox is limiting the performance. He has fabricated a replacement, but still thinks the airflow is stifled. Someone suggested fitting a 'boost box' (possibly from a DT175) Has anyone any experience of this? Thanks

Hi. Bought this bike a while back and always wondered about the exhaust shield. Has anyone seen one of these before or is it a DIY job. Also were the one piece tank and seat units fitted to some bikes from new, or are they always an aftermarket addition. Any info welcome. Thanks WD

I'm taking my fork tubes apart so I can send them to be rechromed as its peeling off I have got them dis assembled, I've got the damper rod out, but in the fork tube there is an aluminium bush and also what looks like a washer retained at the bottom of the fork tube. How do you get this out as obviously this cant stay in for rechroming. Thanks..
