Hi all , I just bought a ty 80 home to fix up so my boys can ride good old twinshock events w/ me . a few stupid ?'s that I don't know the answer to , as when the ty80 's came out I already had a tl125 and never rode one until a few moments ago !!!!!!!!!!!!! The frame and engine #s match 451-002195 , Can any one tell me what year this is , 80a , 80b etc ? And the real stupid ? .... are they only four speeds w/ neutral at the bottom , or do I need to split the cases and check it out for bent shift forks etc. ? Thanks for any and all responses ... Hi everybody im new to this forum & have just managed to get hold of a ty 80 project! and would like some info from you ty guys? first of all i would like to know the year of it the frame number is 451-111131 and engine is 451-108-190 should the numbers be the same? any info would be great and would love to hear from anyone else who is restoring a ty 80?

I have a 1978/9 320 Majesty, its been hanging araund for years with hardly any use. It was started up every two or three years and always started second kick or so and ticked over superbly. The problem was it would not rev and was very hard to ride as it 4 stroked when you tried to ride it, so it just sat there. I have recenty tried to sort it, I was reluctant to try and remove the flywheel as I had no puller and had been told that even with one its sometimes a pain. But get this, it started to come off while I was messing with it I heard a slight scraping and it was the flywheel touching the inside of the cover. hi, lost my ty175 in a river today, turns over easy enough, took it back to the van took it home, iv taken the engine out and was talking to a freind and he said iv probably bent the conrod, whats the likely hood?? what else will be damaged? thanks lukeo

As of today, I am the proud owner of a very nice 1974 TY250A. It has some minor work to be done but very little use and all original. Unfortunately, I need to revisit the question many of you see a lot. Where can I find a "owner's manual", photo copied or otherwise? I have tried a number of sources and internet searches to no avail. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Hi All, I have recently bought a Yamaha TY250 Mono Shock which I have been slowly bringing back to life. I dont know much about the year of the bike and that would be a help so first off, if anyone can point me in the right direction of finding out the year of the bike I would be very grateful. It has a plastic tank and a mono shock rear, with Gold wheel rims. The reason for this post is that I cannot find the autolube oil resevoir. There just isnt one and from a pdf manual i bought (not very good) I cannot get any info about the engine setup of this. I have a 1990 Mono TY 250 - given its age and weight I dont understand why it cant be regarded as the same class as a twinshock as it is miles away from modern lightweight bikes? Does anyone still ride the TY 250 mono or have they all be consigned to the dreaded field bike of farmers kids ? Matthew

I have just finished fitting a new pair of "Progressive Fork Springs" into my TY250 T/S and I am very pleased with the results. It is widely known that the TY250 T/S's forks are a bit on the soft side (especially after 30 years) and one of the publicised remedies is to fit the forks and front wheel from a Mono. I used to have a Mono about 17 years ago and don't remember the forks being particularly good (or bad for that matter), and so decided that buying a new fork assembly, front wheel and so on, probably from ebay, if one came up and if I was the succesful bidder and if once I'd received it, whether it would be any good, left a lot to chance, especially as the Mono f…

I have a new generic Mukuni VM22 carb I fitted to my TY175, I had the flange tuned to make it a round mount. Please help with jetting. I have tried to match the stock jetting, but I was wondering if anyone has installed a new 'pre-jetted' VM22 carb on their TY? What is the jet sizes you have used? Main, Pilot, needle jet and needle? I'm sure I need to replace the needle but don't want to buy several and they not work. Thanks,

In my quest to improve my majesty, I am looking to change the kickstart, I would like to add a new, lighter lever and dispense with the rather large heavy original. I have tried an alloy Ty mono kickstart welded to the original bottom piece, this has asthetically worked but its rather long and tricky to use . Has anybody done this mod with example a shorter kickstart lever from a modern trials bike, if so would they be willing to share which this is. Thanks very much

Got the front end out of the Majesty and discovered the bearings are nearly shot. Anyone here know if its possible to buy taper roller kits for the TY or do you have to buy the bearings and cups from Yamaha. Thanks in advance

Hi, I have a TY250 Mono and I was thinking over the winter to sort out it's gear box. Specifically the annoying false neutrals. Problem is i've not split a crankcase before and so i have no idea what i'm looking for. I'm guessing something must be worn but could anyone point me in the right direction of what? I have a manual but it doesn't cover problems due to 20 years of wear and tear! Thanks!

My rebuilt 1975 TY175 is running poorly. This is the first running since engine rebuild. It runs fair, but pops and kinda backfires. Doesn't want to idle. I've gone back and checked timing several times. I put a new carb on, but it still runs the same. Could it be the capacitor or coil? Any hints would be great! Mick

Hi hoping someone can help me my lads ty80 having problems, i put crankcase oilseals in, then did a trial, then because it was back firing , smoking, didn't even want to start(this was after trialing for a few hours, started running lovely at first then started playing up) i replaced them again, thought maybe made a mistake was doing a mentoring day yesterday and now it's back firing , smoking and don't want to start, somone mentioned there is a screw to drain the crankcases of gases but i can't find it but when first changed the seals runs lovely , just after a few hours (think only 2 hours yesterday starts playing up) any help and advice appreciated thanks Mick

Hi Further to my recent post - I'm making progress with some of the major parts needed. As far as I can make out these Japanese spec bikes had a conventional instrument binnacle and a battery box, has any one out there got a fully specced version of one of these or a good scource of pictures - I really need to know which bits are missing and what they look like (part numbers etc). I'm building the bike for light road use and to do some green lane days so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tim
