Hi everyone, I've just bought my first AMC bike which is an AJS 16 that's been built as a trials (style) bike. A fair bit has been done to it but there is also a lot I need to sort out and improve upon. The plan is to use it for some road trials like the Arbuthnot, some rides out with my local VMCC sections and a bit of playing around at my trials club's local practice ground. I'm not looking to use it for serious pre-65 competition use. From what I can tell so far, it's quite a bit of a bitsa. I believe the frame is a 1959 but the engine may be earlier as it has a pressed steel primary chaincase and magneto with manual retard control. I was also told that the crankca…

When checking machine eligibility do scrutineers check the year of manufacture on a V5 document? There are clearly plenty of D14 engined 4 speed Bantams being ridden in Pre 65 trials, when those bikes were originally 1968 or later. So how is this trick pulled off? By putting a later engine in an earlier donor bike, who's V5 is of the appropriate year? I am not so concerned in this post about parts eligibility so much as ensuring the machine's documentation is in order.

I have a knackered big end, not sure how bad it is as I’ve not had the engine running (it has about 0.001” – 0.002” play) Do I need to replace the crank pin and con rod or is there an inner & outer race? And can I split the crank with a 5 Tonne press?

Has anyone got any advice regards cam followers on a B25, I'm pretty sure I've got one sticking that releases then drops making a metal on metal sound, or they're touching each other, the noise is only there when the engine gets hot.

I’ve checked the gear ratios on my Villiers 32a motor and it has standard set (As opposed to the wide ratios), does this mean it’s a road bike gearbox or the standard fitted to trials bikes? Also I have a 20T primary drive sprocket and a 15T gearbox sprocket, what would be the best size for the rear sprocket?

Hi all any advise on fitting the later type primary inner and outer cases to a 32A ? Looking at it it seems you have to trim the crank case up with a dremel ? Got to be better than the massive rugby ball type case that's on there !! Would this make it in eligible for the Scottish p65 ? Your thoughts please Cheers

I’ve completed my trials project rolling chassis, but I’m now stuck for an engine! Does anyone know where the best place to find a Villiers 32a or 37a engine? (I’ve placed an ad in the classifieds) How hard is it to find just an engine, and would the earlier 9e engine be worth considering?

OK, so next question on the beezer :-) How do you remove the clutch operating arm from the drive that moves the push rod, is it a screw fix or taper? Thanks

I have two wide swinging arms for my cub and have been riding with the one that is an inch (25mm) longer than the standard, If I change to the shorter standard length how would that effect the steering, i.e. would I be able to turn tighter with the standard one. I hope someone can advise as it would save me a bit of work changing only to find its worse? Any thoughts would be great.

So, a mixed day today, the two Tufnol spacers have worked a treat and very little heat is being transferred back to the carb, great, happy days. However, after around 8 sections I get that very painful metal on metal noise. Diagnosis between sections ranged from, big end, small end, tappets, push rods, etc etc. I rode the bike back to van really slowly and after say 5 mins the noise had totally gone. I spoke to someone and tried to make the noise happen again, and after letting the engine run for a while and a few Andy Roberton type laps round the field the noise came back. Does anyone have any thoughts, it must be to do with the heat of the engine or the amount of tim…

Hi all, Apart from the standard black plastic like inlet manfolds you can get from places like InMotion does anyone know of any other type available? I suffered a bit with heat transfer to the carb and was trying to understand what options there are out there.
