I thought you SWM enthusiasts might enjoy a picture of my SWM project .The bike is a 1980 Tl 320 that was originally sold in England, imported to Califoria in the late 80's and found last year in a salvage yard in Montana. I have tried to replicate Bernie Schriebers last Factory TL320 before he started riding the Jumbo. My project incorporates all of the mods from the french Burgat article on this forum and everything I could see from the photos in Bernies' book "Observed trials". My only real change from the original factory bikes is a modified Pro Circuit Racing silencer that weighs about a fourth of what the original did. That and other weight reduction mods bring the …

In amongst the van full of bits I collected from Italy last weekend were a selection of "works" modified front pipes. The top picture shows a standard chrome finish front pipe with the modified ones either side. I had a quick attempt at fitting them on my bike, but both would need the fins removing from the head before fitting...which I might try at a later date. The third pipe fitted straight on my bike, and has a couple of extra bends before it hits the middle box, and looks similar to the production front pipe on the Jumbo 350's. It looks neater, but I cant say it runs any different.

Anyone know a source for rotax kick start hubs(not the lever, the piece that clamps on the shaft)? Mine snapped the other day and I have not had much luck finding a replacement. Is Comeca still in business, they were offering them a few months back, but I can't seem to find them on the web now. Help! Thanks ,Jim

Anyone know the bearing number? I've put the old one down somewhere and can't find it at the moment to get the number. I have to go to the local bearing stockist tomorrow so if they have some in stock I can get some whilst I'm there.

Howdy again Gang! When I took my TL320 down to Moab last month, with a fresh change of the fork oil to ATF, I found that the seals leaked a great deal. I decided to change them, so I ordered a set of seals for 35mm Betor forks. They came as a set of four separate seals, apparently meant to be stacked on top of each other for a double-lip seal. Last night, I dismantled the forks and removed the old seals. The old seals were not stacked, they were a single seal on each side, each with a double lip inside. One fork leg was embossed with the words: "Honda F seal, 9125-273-000". So it would seem that someone had the fork legs machined to accept a Honda seal, though I suspect…

Anyone out there know the SWM factory mechanics who wrenched on the Works bikes ? Might be interesting to pick thier brains about engine mods ,ect. Has anyone tried one of the flatslide carbs on a 320? Cheers ,Jim

Any ideas on how to break my SWM 240s countershaft sprocket nut. Penetrating oil is doing nothing. I stuffed a block of wood between the rear wheel and swingarm, sat on the rear tire, applied heat with mapping gas to the nut, and had a breaker bar with a long pipe on top of it and the nut won't move. The chain is still attatched and another block of wood is behind the rear tire and it just spins the rear wheel. I can't see the nut being reverse threaded. I haven't heated the nut cherry red. I think it will hurt the countershaft itself. My impact gun isn't doing half of what the breaker bar is doing. Any ideas?

Hello, I would like to know if the rear shocks are suppose to be 14 inches long? Also, are they suppose to be mounted in the front mounting hole or the rear. There are two holes for mounting and my shocks which are 14 1/8 inches long are mounted in the rear position. Thanks, Scott

I'm sure I'm going to have a load of questions for you in the future. I have already reviewed all of the SWM posts and I'm getting quite the education. Has anyone successfully managed to clean up a plastic tank to its original yellow. The tank has gone a darker yellow over the years, usually due to UV from sunlight, and the replacement new plastics are significantly lighter. Just wondered if there is a tried and proven method for restoring the original colour without making a mess of it. The plastic is baby bum smooth at the moment and I don't want to try any method that will rough it up.

There seems to be almost no information out there concerning proper setup of twinshock trials bike suspension. With vintage motocross bikes ,suspensions(spring rates) are usually setup by rider weight and ability(speed). What is the best way to determine proper/optimal spring rates and damping on a vintage trials bike? I ride a 1980 SWM TL320 and weigh 235 lbs. . The bike has the original fork springs and works performance shocks put on by the previous owner(weak springs). Seeing as these bikes were designed and the suspensions setup for light riders like Schrieber and Burgat, the stock fork springs and shock springs certainly must be too light for heavy riders. Hello Please apologise for my bad english! I once heard that top level 320 SWM riders lightened the weight of their magnetic wheel for 0.800 kilos. I just reduced mine for 0.450 kilos, and at first glimpse that gives to me a good feeling: I'm driving much more a trial bike than a tractor. But I'm wondering: must the ignition advance be modified? we all know the whys and wherefores, and risks of late nite beer and evil bay.... just bought a 320 here, 1980,......"runs perfectly"........ soulds like a tractor on one cylinder were can i get pistons, (nikasil bore?) and a conrod kit? what about airbox and carb rubbers? Martin M?? any idea what a fulll engine rebuild will cost? Anybody recommend anyone to do it. i can only split fanny cos the gearbox doesnt fall all over the place....
