SWM

Meant to pass this on earlier. Did a classic trial last weekend and one of the guys who stopped for a chat about Speedy, had two SWM TL320's from new, bought from kershaws in Essex. He told me that back the in day he used clutch springs from a Honda MT50 moped....was a common mod' back then? Just thought I'd throw that into the SWM melting pot of 'clutch fixes'.

As the title...do the earlier rear brake plates fit the later non-cush drive hub? I'm after a rear brake plate and cam to refurb' and have found one off an early Gori cush drive model. cheers as always

Have a look at the swm at 13.11, not an engine I recognise, chains on the opposite side as is kickstart. Any ideas ? (Ducman at 23.10 -Greeves at 27.52- Ecki at 28.19)

I want to fit a Honda CRF clutch perch with the quick adjuster (hot start may double as my decompressor?) they also have a good action too....saw one on a Beamish at a trial and thought good idea but... My clutch cable has the smaller end nipple, is it possible to get 'convertor' to go to the more normal larger size? Many thanks

I want to modify my rear pedal to suit my relocated footrests....needs to be 2" down, 2" further back and for my own comfort 1"further out. Anyone care to share their experiences mod'y rear pedals? Cheers

Would anyone know what the original handlebar rise would of been when these Speedies were sold new....just curious. cheers

Anybody looking for a good swm have a look on woobly wills, Gary the seller is a good guy and the price seems very reasonable for a bike of this spec in this condition. "The bike has been rebuilt and bored to 250 ,enduro piston from Martin still needs running in .Burgat spec flywheel ,Betors forks in Marzocchi legs the best steering option,modern lowered footrests ,good splines ,new kickstart,good Falcons ,tyres,wheels ,new shoes ,plastics .The bottom end is from an Aprilia TXR ,different gear ratios and gearbox shaft splines ."

I've got a copy of the US (I think!) importers user manual that came with my Speedy, sort of real world set-up guide. It's not much, a few pages but does a decent job of describing some of the maintenance jobs and set up from actual useage. Quite amusing in places too. If anyone wants a copy I'll scan and post to site.....if I can work my new fangled printer/copier from hell...it means I may need to read the 'destructions' and for a man this will be the ultimate embarassment! All seems fine operation-wise but has some grooved shoes that seem to get mixed reviews....anyone carre to comment on their use in SWM's. I've deglazed the shoes and the hub but no better.

Ran the bike around yesterday in my woods and its great, lovely super grunty engine that will plonk along at incredibly low revs. Brakes are good now they have bedded in and set up with help from this forum. She's rides tight, light and bright, quick steering but stable too, Starts first kick after priming her on the decompressor. She doesnt feel her 34 years old. Rear suspension is very stiff indeed though after my Beta REV3. She has Sammy Miller gas shocks on 50lb springs which may need changing to 40lb springs or less! Clutch is light but to erradicate all drag Ive no adjustment left on my cable....whats the form on setting up the clutch adjuster screw and should i…

Hi guys, anyone know of a source for TL320 fuel tank to frame mounting rubbers...the doughnuts that sit at the front of the tank that the tank 'slides' into? I spoke with Martin at SWM.Moto and no luck....must be something around that can do the job...Honda TL125 ones won't! A quick google finds tank rubbers out there but I don't have old rubbers to go by - mine are missing - I can try and source some rubbers but I need a photo of one to go by and some dimensions would be real handy too. If anyone could help on that front I'd be grateful and pass on what I find. many thanks

Guys thanks for your help, I'm now the owner of a 1980 TL320.,,.brought her back at 1pm....stripped down by 5pm ready for powder coating and refit. No nasty surprises but a few things I've noticed: Gearing seems high....running 14/40 at the moment.....thinking of going to a 13 front. Clutch is light, positive and I can get nuetral too...easier than my my Beta REV3! But there is no undertank lever lightener system....cable goes from lever direct to clutch cover. Shes a little crackly on the noise front....is it possible to repack the silencer....which weighs more than boat anchor? Trans oil.....10/40? Any advise welcome

....mine came with a rubber pad between engine and bashplate (sumpguard) but I can't find one shown in the parts book? Thanks as always.....she's up 'n running just waiting on few parts to finish....been an easy strip 'n rebuild thus far thanks to help from this site and Mr SWM Martin.

Ok this was present before my stripdown but it seems aliens have abducted it and are most likely probing it as I write....really frustrating oodles of bits in oodles of bags, all labeled up and you know tbe rest! It's the bearing which the brake pedal sits on and acts as the securing nut too having an internal thread. Martin doesn't have one so at the moment and this is a job stopper...if anyone can help both my SWM and myself will thank you.

Anybody got a inlet to carb rubber ? I've tried Martin and Jumbostu. Thanks Ross Must be the SWM straight one, not the cranked Aprilia etc.

This subject was raised some some three years ago and to be fair opinions shared. Given the time frame I wondered if these we still valid. I have a red and white Guanaco with the mazocchi set up. Whilst its alright, they do tend to be very soft even after changing and playing with the springs. I have a nice pair of late betors including yokes / tete de fourche and my French guru is trying to convince me to go down this route. Some mentioned on the previous thread that all the works bikes had married the Mazocchi yokes to betor forks and I have since seen this recently on a very nicely prepared Belgium bike of Michel Gossiaux, again his name was mentioned in the previou…

Well just when you think you have done everything correctly during a strip down to help with the rebuild fate throws a spanner in the works.....like knocking over my temporary storage bench whilst parts are drying AND deleting strip down photos...doh! I now have all the front and rear axle assembly parts all mixed up, I can seperate most of the parts (most!) and but their 'as built' order is also hopelessly lost. Would anyone have a drawing/ photo of front and rear axle assemblies? Many thanks

Hi guys i have an oil capacity in my users manual (US market I believe) but no oil weight, any recomendations? Do these zokes respond to differing air gaps? ....just a thought, I'm assuming these are damper rod forks being this old? As usual any help welcome
