As I prepare to strip my 83 240 naked to powder coat the frame, I thought it would be a good time to weld on some new footpeg mounts... As my owners manual states "high-resistance,special steel" is there anything special I should know before I fire up my mig ? as in what type of steel??? And does anyone have a part# for the timkin steering head bearings ? Also for the swing arm bearings and seals ? And yes I will practice my welding on my spare frame that is cracked near the steering head on the brace between the backbone and downtubes, my good frame was already nicely repaired there before I bought her... The weak spot on the early fantics?... Thanks; Glenn

Hi i have just got my son a fantic 300 im led to believe its an 1985 model it has front and rear disc brakes i need help finding the correct fork seal size as one of the fork is leaking the 2 sizes are Fork Seals 32mm x 42mm x 8mm or Fork Seals 35mm x 47mm x 7.5mm i dont want to take the forks in bits as im not that confident and have someone who could maybe do it for me also i wouldnt mind replacing the silencer on the back as it has a hole where the tyre has rubbed it (getting it rewelded) i was thinking of maybe a newer style (less noise) any help would be most welcome thanks graham

Have any of you gents across the pond heard anything about a new fantic trialer? I just Finished my first 2 modern rounds on my 83 240 (first competion in 30+ years) and except for the hontesa's wasn't really impressed with the build quality of the other new bikes!! And when did they change the forward motion rule? I want a new fantic!!! Life to short to beat myself up on a old bike in modern bike sections!! love the old fantic though... Glenn

I see posts about you guys in the UK riding your trials bike on the street and the MOT testing. I find that interesting. So if I lived in UK, I'd occassionally see you guys riding around, standing up, on a bike with no seat, going to work or to the store??? How do the trials tires hold up on the road? When you come to a stop at an intersection, do you keep your feet up and balance until you get a green light? Just curious, I wish I could register my bike for the street and ride it! Is there a possibility anyone out there knows where I can get a nos or remanafactured stator/pickup plate for my 83 240 pro??? The two that I have both appear to be heat sensitive. I've already updated to a late model HT coil, but after riding it for 15 to 25 minutes it'll lose it's ignition at the most inopportune moments. Not very confidence inspiring at all... Any and all info greatly appreciated, As I've got the old girl set up to my taste now and I'd really like to be able to use it with a little faith that she won't die when needed most... Test specs, tips whatever... Thanks Glenn

Does anyone know the flywheel puller size for a 1993 Fantic 50/ 80 (air cooled). It looks like a 23.5 x 1.25 but I can't really get a proper measurement. (could be 23mm or 24 mm)

After trying a few differant filters I had around, I finaly made a cardboard mockup of a filter that would work in the stock air box and spent some time on the K&N website and ordered a pn# E3211 filter. It arived last nite, and with a strip of self adhesive 1/4 weatherstrip on the fitter edge to help seal against the inside of the airbox (exhaust dip on top of housing), it fit like it was made for the bike! They also make one that is 2mm taller pn# E3212. No more foam filters!!! 83 240 pro And does any one know of some real footpegs that will work on my bike without to much modifacation? The stock ones leave abit to be desired... thanks,Glenn

Hi All I just picked up an 83 Fantic 240 Professional Twinshock. I really like this little bike. While overlooking this old gem and checking out what it needs I noticed something very peculiar. There was a cable going to the exhaust port and it had what appeared to be a Powervalve which was throttle activated. However the cover to this powervalve was missing so that the cable doesn't do anything. Anyone have any weblinks or info on this? In the parts manual it is not there. I would like to get the missing part for this, or is it something that I should just remove and forget about? Also, I have a bunch of parts on order for this bike and I would like to know where I…

Hey Guys, I just bought a really nice 1997 Fantic Section (Aluminum Frame) . I'd welcome any suggestions of any type. I bought this bike after owning a 91 Fantic 309. So far, I've noticed that the '97 Section is much harder to start, sometimes taking 6,7,8, or so kicks. My 309 always started on the first or second kick. I'd love to improve the starting. I'd also love to find a flywheel weight for the Section. While the suspension on the Section is much nicer, I have no idea what to do wih the adjustments on each fork leg, dampning? / rebound? . +/- . Is the rear suspension adjustable? I ride Novice and weigh 165lbs. Thanks, Tony P Charlotte, NC USA

Didnt want to hijack the other thread on spark plugs but while it is being discussed whats the correct plug for a 309? Also we have just had the barrel recoated by langcourt and put in a new piston kit but when we came to take the bike out to run it in it was a real pain to run! Basically it took ages to start (ran fine at home) and when it did start it sounded like it was flooding and there was very little power. Soon it did flood and fouled up the plug. We put in another new plug but it simply would not go. The plug kept getting very wet. The thing is after we built it we did run it a litlle at home and it sounded ok but then my mate left the fuel on all night and in t…

As the champion L 82 is hard to find anymore, what spark plugs do you gents run with a late model coil fitted to my 83 240 ? I just need input on a ngk or nd baseline to start with as I have lengthened my intake boot and run a K&N air filter, which so for has improved my off idle snap quite a bit... thanks, Glenn

This may sound a bit stupid but I can't get the exhaust on to my 240, do I need to take the back wheel out & feed it in that way? (BTW I bought the bike in bits so have never taken the exhaust off either).
