Bultaco

I bought a 199A. It would not start when I went to collect it but owner said he had had it started to check it was OK that morning. No spark, but when we removed the plug but it did look as if it had run. Got it home cleaned the points and checked gap whch as correct. There was now a spark but may be not as bright or as consistent as it should be. Still no start although I think it fired a few times. Tested the HT coil and secondary winding was open circuit so bought new coil from Inmotion. Slightly better spark but still no start. Had the condenser checked by an electrician. No Mf capacitance so ordered one from Inmotion which has just arrived. When removing the fly…

  2. What is the procedure for adjustment of the clutch on the Matador? Is it like any other where you loosen the locking nut and turn the screw in until resistance and then back off 1/4 turn?

  4. Hi. Just got a 199A and the throttle seems very heavy and the carb spring quite strong, stronger than I remember. Does anyone know what the free length of the spring should be, the number of turns and the wire diameter. The old twist grip is knackered. Anyone recommend a fast or slow domino right angle twistgrip and suitable cable. Thanks Tony

Hi everyone I have a question to ask ? Are there different size magneto, flywheels ( internal),I ordered an electronic ignition system from in motion to replace my FEMSA ignition system,I have not been able to ride for 5 years now and wanted to upgrade to make starting easier. On receiving the parts I set about removing and replacing ignition system as directed only to find on trying to start no spark, checked wiring, plug etc,no spark .on removing everything again I looked at the original fitment to flywheel/ magneto to find the electronic system doesn’t fit anywhere near as snugly hence no electrical connection so no spark

Hi, I hope some of you more knowledgeable Bultaco owners can help. i have a model 90 that has been fully rebuilt and it’s fitted with 36mm Mikuni carburetor and new electronic ignition. Its an absolute pig to start, but when started the motor sounds strong and will happily rev to 6000 and will tick over, but when riding on the road the engine runs very erratically and will not push through 5000 revs. The engine after 1-2 miles will start to misfire and run really badly. I have changed the main jet, pilot jet and needle with no joy. I now wondering if I have a dodgy ignition system ? Any advice? thanks Mark

  7. I am nearing completion on the restoration of an Alpina model 138 and am looking for the paint code, or the name of the orange/yellow paint on the side covers, and the swoosh on the tank. Any assistance or insight is appreciated.

Hi everyone, I posted in the welcome area but thought I would start getting this thread caught up to where I am currently at on my restoration of my Bultaco Sherpa T 250. I have done many other restoration projects but this is my first motorcycle project The bike was originally purchased by my late Uncle Bud on August 21, 1970 (I have the original bill) and he used it mostly as a hunting bike as he had other bikes he used in trials riding. Fast forward to while I was in high-school it turned out my science teacher was the son of the Bultaco dealer for our area and knew my Uncle well From what my Dad told me Uncle Bud was 2nd or 3rd best in all of Ontario in…

I’m in the process of rebuilding the Spanish Amal 930 concentric on my 1971 Lobito 175 Mk4. The needle jet is stamped 106A, and that’s what is listed in the owner’s manual as the correct jet. Amal concentrics had long and short needle jets and some jets were for 4 stroke applications, with others being for two strokes. I have seen lots of Amal needle jets for sale that are designated 106, but not 106A. Does anyone know what the difference is? Thanks for any help!

Hello I have a model 92 Sherpa T 350 that I purchased as a basket case. I am trying to figure out if I have the correct rear brake plate. I have 2 rear brake plates but don’t really know how to tell if one of them is correct or not . I believe mine is an early 70’s model. Any help or pics you can post would be appreciated. I will see if I can some also.

The spring loaded pawls in the selector mechanism have a cut-out. Should this face inward to the spring or outwards to the drum?

My dad is looking for a Bultaco Sherpa Trials 125 cc, engine number VM18501877-A 1977 barrel and piston and the piston is 55 mil can you advise how I help him find please

199A Rebuild progressed smoothly....until, the slightest tightening of the engine bolts and the ignition side crank flywheel is binding on the LH Crankcase. Main bearings are where they should be and the crank belongs to this motor. Any thoughts/suggestions please? Also the crank pin isn't flush with the crank halves, on the LH side which is fouling, it is recessed, on the other half it is very slightly proud. Should it not be flush on both sides?

Just looking at a 199A Crank. No up and down movement in the big end but a lot of clearance side to side. Does this look normal?

A funny thing happened over the weekend, I was on a green lane and as we slowed down at the end of the track an elderly chap came out of a house, flagged me down and asked if I'd like to buy a bike (like you do). Of course it's always impossible to resist and he took me into his shed and showed me a tatty old Sherpa which he said had been stored for the past couple of decades by his brother who had passeed away. The bereaved's family were going to put the bike in a skip but thankfully he stopped them doing that and rescued it. I'm not too well up on Sherpas and it's a bit of a mystery to me, the chap thinks it might be a Sammy Miller High Boy but I'm not so sure. The…

I have a 175 Bultaco Sherpa with a very poorly engine that apprears to have eaten its 'self in pieces. If I can find the parts I would like to rebuild the original engine at some point but does anyone have a 250 or 325 engine for sale that would fit straight in to get me riding again? Any help would be much appreciated!

Looking for an airbox for a M116....1974 Alpina 350....I'm in the USA

  20. Does any Bultaco expert know if the Matador Mk2 Model 16 (4 speed) CYLINDER is the same as the Sherpa T model 10? My Model 16 cylinder has come to the end of its life. I acquired the bike with a 74mm piston and now it needs another rebore. Unfortunately, the commonly used Wiseco piston (that you need to cut 10mm off the inlet side of the skirt) don't come any larger than 74mm. I contacted Wiseco and could make a batch of 12, but that's more than the bike is worth, and I don't have the upfront cash to hold them and try to sell the extras. Also, I struck out on finding a cylinder liner. So..... I have found a Sherpa Model 10 cylinder or jug as some people call it in g…
