Bultaco

  1. Started by terryb,

My son tore apart the 159 and we are trying to get it put back together/restored. We can't get the front wheel back on. It seems we are missing a spacer on the non brake side. The top hat spacer is being used inside the brake hub and the small cylinder on the non brake side. The non brake side hub won't clear the fork leg. If someone could shoot a pic of the assembly it would help. Sorry, I wasn't present during disassembly.

The 'vesty replica' at Telford had a reed valve conversion. Has anyone any experience of the effects of this mod? I'd expect smoother running at low revs because of cleaner low down carburation...anyone ever tried it?

Hi, Does anyone know if there is a difference in the porting between the later 325 and the 340 barrels? Was it simply a bigger bore? many thanks

In a bid to stop the vast quantity of oil escaping my clutch, I've bought a new but very old stock clutch cover gasket. I've got something in the back of my mind about soaking it in oil before fitting it, am I right?

Hi, I've recently got a Bultaco 198A. I believe the ignition timing is between 2.8mm and 3.0mm BTDC. I haven't yet got a TDC Tool, but I guess I'll need one. - are the standard tools OK, or do I really need a micrometer version ? But I was wondering... - what's this measurement in terms of degrees BTDC ? - I can't imagine being able to measure 2.8mm to 3mm with any great accuracy, so isn't it easier/better to measure in degrees ? How can I get my flywheel off without having to take the bike to the shop? I've got a 2 arm puller somewhere in the garage, would that do it? Gonna stick on a new condenser and points tomorrow, see if that gets her running a bit better...

The clutch on my M80 slips when I kick it over - not all the time but enough to make it a pain. When its running its not a problem. What's the best thing to do? Fit new plates or springs or both? Not cheap especially if I need a special tool to remove the pins. Any advice welcome. Cheers

Hello; I have a 1978 Bultaco Sherpa T 350 model 191. I rescued this bike from a friend and I'm hoping to restore it to mint condition as it only has 421 original miles on it. When I got the bike it was siezed up or locked up. I removed the head and cylinder and everything looks brand new!! I then split the cases and inspected everything and it all looks BRAND NEW!! I'm starting to think the kick starter mechanism is the culprit. Does anyone have a diagram of the kick start mechanism set up properly? I saw an old post on this forum a while back that a fellow was rebuilding and he posted pics of the kick start that he had set up and put together. The picture I saw had no sp…

Guys, can I ask a really simple question. How is the rear of the tank for the 159 onwards, alloy or plastic secured to the frame, is it designed to just be held in place by the seat and the single bolt at the front through the headstock?
