Montesa

  1. Now about the eccentric adjuster. When this is assembled over the M6 stud, the adjustment made, and the locking nut is tightened up, there is still movement in the adjuster plate. Should the adjuster plate be locked tight in position? If so, then the back of the eccentric adjuster is proud by 0.2mm preventing it being locked tight? Is this correct, or have I got to machine this so its 'sub-flush' therefore allowing the adjuster plate to be locked preventing movement?

Hi, can anybody advise what is a decent aftermarket clamp set that will fit the Cota 200?? Had a look on Renthal site, but nothing listed for 200 Cota. Thanks

Hi guys, Have just started trials after a long gap, on a fairly tidy 248. Can anyone give me any recommendation for final drive sprockets. I'm thinking mine may be a little tall in first. Cheers

  4. Started by bikepilot,

Hi all, I've moved back to Colorado and brought my 315R with me. It is jetted for sea level and ran great there. Not surprisingly it is super rich at my house now (I generally ride from 7500-9k'). I have lots of jetting practice and brass from my MX and enduro bikes, but have never opened up the carb on this bike. If anyone has recommendations on jet size to get in the ballpark that would be super helpful. Also what is a good source for jets for this bike? I have lots of brass for my enduro bikes but they are all Mikunis and probably much larger jets. Thanks!

Hello, I'm in the middle of restoring my 348 and I'm trying to fit a Wes silencer but it doesn't line up the the centre box, the bike came without a silencer but has an alloy plate fitted on the frame mount? Anyone seen this before?

  7. Started by dr nosh,

Making very slow progress with this re-build. Now just getting to the point thinking about electrics. Assembled ign coil. Looks very close to the top of the exhaust. Is this right. Gap is about 10mm. Looks like something is going to melt ! Will just need to power the ign coil, and then a 6v horn, to get a 'day time' MOT. (Horn body is actually to one side of the exhaust, so a bigger gap than it looks). There are 5 coils on the magneto, black, white, green, yellow 2 coils. The wiring diagram shows black, green, yellow joined together (?), with an unmarked wire, presumably white, going to another unmarked part, again presumably the stop light switc…

  8. Hi there, i am missing the top washer, shown as #7 on the picture below. Honda doesn't have it anymore. Could anybody met me know the dimensions so I could get one made up or try to get one with close dimensions? Mostly interested in thickness Thanks, Pascal

  9. Had a nagging oil leak since I got the bike a couple of months ago. In fact, quite a few slow (and not so slow) leaks so changed all seals in clutch case - gear, clutch arm etc. New cover gasket, too. Looked to also be leaking from a couple of the cover screws/bolts so added a few o-rings on these. Finally, found that one of the screws at the bottom of the case is all the way through the case and protruding just in front of the gear box drain plug underneath the engine. I'm guessing that the original cover screw was a shorter one and a previous owner has mistakenly inserted a longer one and pushed all the way through. Unless, of course, the original screw should have gone…

MfG Benjamin Gems

  11. I am looking for a throttle Body Assy 16400-NN4-M71 Montesa 4RT 300R Does anyone have anything to sell here? Thanks Bernd

  12. Started by mcman56,

A new to me 2018 4rt has a plastic guard mounted between the frame and bash plate that extends back to protect the suspension link. It seems like a good idea but also limits the torque that can be applied to the rear bash plate mounting bolts. If the bash plate is considered part of the frame, this seems like a really bad idea. I don't see it on the parts list. However, in addition to the front rubber pad above the bask plate, I see a secondary "pad" that I do not have on the parts list. Could the plastic piece I have be that secondary pad? Is the piece in the picture OEM? What came from the factory?

  13. Started by 2stroke4stroke,

I seem to recall seeing a diagram, presumably from an owners manual, showing the construction of the silencer with regard to changing the end cap from the homologation item to the one normally used, but can't find it on the web. Does anyone have a pic of this to show how the end cap comes off? Having drilled out the rivets, mine seems to be trying to bring the perforated tube with it, ie it's not keen to come off and I don't want to damage anything.

  14. Started by old bones,

Hello, could someone advise on the correct white to use on the tank and seat unit on my 80's cota 200. I've searched the RAL colours and there seems to be three whites. 9003 signal white 9010 pure white 9016 traffic white Any suggestions would be good or an alternative Halfords rattle can colour, oversprayed with petrol proof lac.The tank and seat unit has an alloy tank under it so no problems with leaky fibreglass. Thanks

  15. Started by hoodie2,

Hi. Looking at an MH200 for restoration. It has the fibreglass tank and I was wondering if it would be prone to damage from modern fuels. I can't see any sign of leaking or damage. Is it possible that by this time they would have used an epoxy resin that would not be affected by the ethanol or is it likely that this tank will need to be lined for ethanol protection. Cheers

  16. Started by gazzaecowarrior,

Hi there. I've got an early 80's MH123. Is it exactly the same bike as the MH200 except for the barrell ? Also are any of the other size bikes sharing the same chassis / engine parts. There is a guy breaking a 200 on e bay at the moment.

  17. Started by mcman56,

How much do these links raise the bike? Does it provide a softer ride? The H&D description is hard to interpret. I'm not a trick rider but would like something more compliant so easier on an old body. The Montesa rear suspension also feels quite dead compared to my Beta 4T. "uprates the soft rear end and aids the ability to 'trick' ride and hop around the rear end by providing an even more progressive shock."

  18. Has anyone successfully replaced the drive chain tensioner bushings? Mine is a 2018 and appears to have a solid bush but the replacements (with the correct part number) arrived as a compressed split bush. They also look a little too large. When I look at them, the chance of getting them installed, round and fixed in the swingarm to work with the tensioner seems small. Has anyone done it? Does it work? It does not look good.

  19. Started by cota172,

I have read a few posts here about the 123/172/200 Cotas jumping out of gear and other mentions of a flawed design. I haven't seen any information as to why? Both my 123 and 172 jump out of 1st or 2nd gears, the 123 occasionally and the 172 worse. If it is a design issue, what is it? I have rebuilt both engines with all new bearings with no apparent wear or damage to the gears etc. They have new springs in the selector and the pawls look fine. I have tried both less tension and more tension on the detent with no change. It does seem like it needs oil in the selector pawls to work, if the bike has been sitting it won't select anything till it starts up. It …
