Montesa

  1. Started by jono,

couldnt workout why my airbox kept filling with dust particles and water, even after 2 new air filters and a new filter cover. found out that the platic had cracked on the seam where the lugs for the mudguard support brackets are, the split only became apparent when you aplied force to the bracket. sealed it up with some super sticky silicone, problem solved. also fitted some of those boyesen reeds, (thanks ff) what a difference, super strong midrange now and revs to infinity and beyond, no noticable change at low revs. excellent, cheap and easy mod. jono

The rear brake on my 02 gave up working at the last trial I rode and I've spent the last few weekends trying to sort it out but I seem to be losing the battle. I've put new pads in, given the calipers a good clean, bled new fluid through. Can't see any signs of leaks or bulges in pipes etc. When on the stand the pedal exerts enough pressure to stop you being able to turn the wheel but thats not enough to lock the wheel or come close to giving me confidence to actually ride the bike in anger! Any help would really be appreciated.

I just wondered if there are any basic modifications or additions any one has made that improve the performance or asthetics of the bike Cheers Dan "feet up!"

hi.does anybody recognise these symptoms of poor low revs running on a 1997 315 montesa.the bike will always start from cold not always so reliable from hot.idles ok but runs really poor on about quarter throttle.it sounds and feels as if the choke is on but it is not.anything above these revs seems fine but the silencer runs very hot after only 2 to 3 minutes running time.the carb has been removed and cleaned as has the silencer.im not too familiar with trials bikes as this is my first one and im now out of ideas.can anybody suggest any possible cure for this very annoying problem.

I've got this constant plug fouling issue so want to go back over everything from scratch and double check! Last thing I remember is changing the jets from standard to Comp....then, maybe!! back to standard again!! Does anybody have details of the carb set-up and a pdf of the parts catalogue? It's a 2004 running the Dellorto....could so with jet sizes, needle position, float height, air screw etc etc..... Cheers!

Hi All. Does anyone have any photos of the carb for the 315. Mine is a 1999 model fitted with a dellorto PHBH26CS. I have an exploded view in a parts book but need to know what tubes fit where. At present my bike only has 1 tube fitted on the left hand side of the carb (sitting on the bike) connecting to a breather unit next to the rear brake fluid resivoir. My parts book says this is "tube, main air inlet" There are a couple of pipe nipples on the right hand side of the carb with no pipes fitted. The book shows a u shaped pipe that I dont have called "tube, air vent". I bought the bike back last year & am only just getting ready for my first outing. The bike is ver…

I've had the 315 for years and tried all the fixes, but didn't find them effective long term. My Father and his colleague suggested this and were kind enough to make it for me. By removing 2 fibre and 2 steel plates but keeping the same amount of lift (x), you get a bigger space between the plates when disengaging the clutch. ie standard = x / 13 plates is a smaller number than modified = x / 9 plates. It's just enough to be able to select neutral with the engine running and no more stalling in gear with the clutch disengaged. Done a few hours practice and a trial with this set up and it's carried my 15 stone around the fun route with no sign of any slipping. It had …

My 315 had a clutch that dragged so bad you had to push off and then click it in gear when it was cold/first started. Then after it warmed the it would drag badly unless you blipped the throttle every 3 seconds. Also hard to modulate. Tried the Silkolene oil, but not better. I finally bit the bullet and installed new standard friction disk which are a mix of cork and paper fibre. Also went to the recommended Elf oil. Just to make sure I bleed the hydraulics. Clutch works fine now. A little clunk as it goes in gear, but the bike does not move. Smooth progressive engagement. It now has about 3 hours since the rebuild and still works fine.
