Just wondering if other 315 ridders used an in line fuel filter before the carb? as mine came with one on, yet my mate, does not use one, and just relies on the filter in the carb, Mine really gets in the way of the choke, and is a real nightmare for space when removing the tank and putting it back onn Cheers clay

just wonderin if any of you guys have used the jitsie rear linkage??i assume it changes the geometry of the setup slightly to help with jap zaps etc but would it be 40 quid well spent?

I'm pretty rubbish with Carbs so need some pointers here. My '97 315 (with PHBH carb) is quite jerky at low revs - so if I'm moving slowly the bike will keep jumping forwards a little. Air screw is currently 1.5 turns out. On more open throttle it seems better. I've taken the carb off and cleaned it but may have missed something. I checked 3 jets (main, the short idle jet and the one up inside the 'tube') which looked OK. I did notice that one of the floats has some rub marks on it - no idea how it could have got these but they're there. Also the slide has some wear marks on the side, could these be the issue? Is it worth repairing or would I be better of trying…

Whats the best master cylinder to fit 315, iv done every other check but brake is still crap, so time to ditch the grimeca master, which masters will fit my bike??

hi I've been using plastic cable ties (zip clips on the two rear screws on back mudguard so as not to crease or snap it but had problems getting a reasonable seal to stop water and debris passing over the top of the airfilter box and although there great at saving the rear guard the cable ties snap a little to easily eg; just touch rear guard a bit hard with leg or boot and ping so now trying plastic dome head screws(similar to number plate screws) seem ok up to now havent snapped riding or man handling bike but havent crashed it hard enough yet so just wondering what you guys are using ps, ive used em long enough to show 10mm through the captive nut s…

Went up the practice ground at the weekend. Bike starts second or third kick with choke, ticks over and runs fine, as usual. Rode around for an hour or so then came back to the van to get a drink and turned the bike off. Sat around for ten minutes or so then went to start the bike again and it would not start, dead as a a dodo, not a cough or splutter. Lots of kicking, trying with choke on / off, laid it down to check for fuel coming out of the overflow (which it did), no luck, so I packed up and went home. Hello CHaps, I have '99 315r and it has been brilliant for almost 2 years since i bought it. But today i got to the trial and she no go! I checked the spark plug and it was a bit gruby and no spark, so i put a brand new one in and still no spark. That is where my mechanical /electrical knowledge ran out and the old man is old school so doesn't really have any ideas either. (he can build beautiful old bike from the ground up though!) any thoughts?? As much as i enjoyed observing today, it's much more fun falling off myself than watching others! Ta Dan

Can anyone tell me the pro's and con's? I'm going to upgrade would like a 4rt but what's the service costs? ie: oil filter? fuel filter(if its got one) i'm also looking at a 315 (2004) so what's the differance for routine maintanance? Any help or advice would be great cheers

need some advice or help on this one, a friends 315 started over heating when we were last out, we were doing a long trail ride with long sections climbing and he was losing power and over heating so we topped the water up etc but this kept happening. When we had time we check the water pump, impellor looked fine and turns with the kick start and isn't loose or anything, cleaned the rad and flushed the system through, refilled with fresh coolant. Still overheats so next thought was head gasket, whipped the head off and gasket looks fine but we replaced it as a precaution, still overheats so the last thought was the rad cap spring being a little loose with age? Not needed any montesa specific parts for ages, so sorry if I've missed something blindingly obvious, but where are 315r parts available from at the moment in the UK? Sandifords shows up on google, but the link appears to be dead - no website available. I've spent a bit of time searching online and not really found anything concrete.

After hearing a couple of other 315's today my '97 bike seems very loud indeed with a top end rattle. I suspect its going to need a new piston but when i looked at the base of the barrel instead of seeing A, B or C all I can see is O. So now I don't know what to do. Anybody come across this before? Pic attached of the barrel.

Does anyone know how to identify or has access to a technical manual for vertex pistons as I was told one of the beta ones will fit a 315? Know alba made their own but got bad feedback so wondered if the vertex would be an option over oem

Hi all, I have just purchased a 2002 315r. I haven't taken it out as yet but was just thinking can you still buy plastics for them? Had a quick look on the Internet and most shops say there discontinued? Also on another topic is elf the best gear oil to use? If so what is the interval between oil changes? I don't ride like a motor cross rider and I am only a novice, I used to use Gp10 in my beta and changed every 3-5 rides out but read the old girls only like elf? Thanks in advance Adam

I have a Monty 315 fitted with a Keihin PWK 28 carb. This Bike is new to me. Ok guys this is what happens, Bike starts and runs fine, length of time running does seem to make a difference but eveytime i go out it fouls the plug, at first tick over starts to get uneven and its gets a bit smokey and you have to wind tick over thumb screw in. Then you can be pulling up a climb in 3rd, get to the top and then it loses power, and eventually dies, and wont kick over. Take plug out its black and sooty, put in new plug and away it goes first kick fine. At first i thought the plug was faulty BR6 IX (irriduim), fitted new one and off i went again.
