Just done 2 wheels tonight without any problems at all (for once...)
A 14mm (9/16th) socket was small enough to fit inside the old bearing (disk side) and butted up nicely against the 'tube spacer'. I added an extension bar to the socket and tapped it with a hammer. The other bearing (sprocket side) popped out very easily followed by the spacer. I then spun the wheel round and used a larger socket inside the wheel hub and tapped out the other bearing.
I don't think the 'tube spacer' would be damaged as only a little persuasion was needed.
I followed Ishy's advice and prised the seals off both sides of each bearing before repacking with Marine grease.
The hub was then cleaned up and smeared with 'Copper Grease' to prevent rust and help the new bearings slide in easier. They were tapped in using one of the old bearings, which meant that the hammer blows were spread evenly over the inner and outer shells.
Thanks for all the advice everyone, I reckon I could replace both bearings on a wheel in under 5 minutes with no hassle at all in future.

Yep, I reckon JD pops in to TC.com now and again. Either that or he's heard the same rumour

Jake Miller must be very good at what he does, he probably wouldn't be any use to DL and other high profile sporting clients if he pussied about politely requesting things
-
That would be good, 30+ years of his best photo's.
I had the pleasure of meeting him in Switzerland, nice bloke and very easy to get on with.
He attended every single round of the World Outdoor Championship in 2004 - not bad going for a 72 year old

I've never even seen it !!!

I'll probably take my ciggies and lighter in a waterproof ziplock bag but I won't be having one unless the bike goes kaput or I get injured
If I manage to get round the course - I'll smoke the biggest, fattest cigar I can find

I've just bought a set of bearings today for the Beta (they're 6004 2RS too).
Dabster, I'm guessing that the bearings go in the freezer so that they shrink and then when you heat up the wheel hub, it expands enough for the cold bearings to drop in easier.
Any tips on getting the old ones out?
Cheers

In a vain attempt to salvage some dignity, I emailed Mr. Codina and asked him the 'proper' question He said there is just the 1 oil supply that lubricates both the bottom end and the gearbox.
Just been reading through the Sherco press pack: -
The ignition is a digital multipolar system that is programmable if the optional "Pocket Programmer" is purchased.
This is plugged into the bike and connected to a computer so that different ignition curves can be downloaded from Sherco's R & D website. It then says that this will help riders to personalise the power on their bike to suit the riding conditions and even the altitude.

Nay lad!! I don't know what I'm banner do wi thi.
I asked you to find out if the bike had two different oil supplies, meaning was the gearbox oil and the bottom end / crank oil seperate.
Oops, the only thing I know about engines is that they either run or they don't - technicalities are not important to mere mortals like me
