I'm still keen on the seat/toolbox idea but will take you up on your offer if I end up binning the bloody thing
Cheers

I've not heard of the spray on stuff, any idea what it's called or where to look for some?
Ideally, I'd like to coat this seat in plastic as that would be less hassle. The other alternative is to put the seat into a box frame and make an external mould. Then the ext' mould could be filled with proper foam etc. etc.

I'm still on with trying to make a seat/toolbox for the bike.
I've cut and trimmed some expanding foam into the shape of a seat and cut a hole out of it to use as a toolbox that measures 6" long, 3" wide and 2.5" deep.
The foam itself is quite sturdy but without any side support it will probably split and crumble away. I've been using GRP fibreglass today in an attempt to cover the whole of the seat in plastic but I'm making a right sodding mess
Does anybody know of a liquid plastic that can either be sprayed or painted on?
Cheers

Aye, and your tackle will be nailed to the wall too

Ee Ishy, you haven't changed a bit

It's mine all mine - so, who'll give me a

'Outwith' is a Scottish word that makes my teeth itch
The Oxford dictionary included it for some reason! They just stuck it in to keep the posher Jocks quiet

It had just woken up after a heavy night out?

Great minds think alike Ishy - I'm having a go at making a bit of a seat that will also double up as a tool box. And before anyone else says it, yes there will be a 'tool' sat on it
Just covered the tank and rear mudguard with masking tape to protect it. Cardboard on both sides of the 'dip' for side support and filled it with expanding foam which takes about 24 hours to set properly.
Craftypiggy, once I've cut the foam into a rough seat shape I'll be needing someone to make a cover for it

You make a very good point about the bike feeling different and I'll bear it in mind before I start strapping the kitchen sink to it I'm thinking of getting the half-litre fuel tank for the front forks which shouldn't weigh too much. And I'm also following Ishy's 'saddlebags' idea from 2004.
I used a camel pack last year and found that although they don't bounce around, they still have a bit of weight in them (isn't that right Mr. Perce? )
I ran out of fuel at least 3 times last year, twice on the Friday (not including the fuel stop in Morar) I suppose revving the tits off the bike when struggling across the moors doesn't help though

Pair of *******s, I *will* have my revenge Thanks for the BVM link Stu

Thanks Stu, managed to get 1 sensible reply anyway

Right, after last years SSDT attempt I'm determined to finish this time and need some info if possible: -
Has anyone got a link to the website that sells the emergency petrol suppy thingy that sits behind the number board?
Has anyone got a close up piccy of Aaran Drachenbergs little 'tool tube'? Before you all start taking the p***, it's fitted to the rear mudguard on the left side of the bike and from memory, it looks like it could carry quite a few tools without getting in the way too much.
I don't want to ride round with anything on my back this time so the list above should help me out.
Cheers

Why not eh? it would be rude not too at that sort of money...
Might even make a few quid out of it off a bigger tart than me
-
I'm way too slow across the moors, every man and his dog passes me even when I think I'm flying along. I need the extra speed for when we hit the tarmac as that is the only place I can catch up a little. Last year, out of the 30 sections on the Friday I probably only walked 5-10 of them, the rest got a quick glance before I rode them
I left 1 minute after Ishy on the Thursday morning and went straight round to the Beta van - between me John and Gary we pulled the cover off, swapped the front sprocket, added a link and a half to the chain, adjusted the rear wheel, topped the coolant up, replaced the rear brake toe and fitted a front mudguard flap, this probably took us about 10-12 minutes.
I knew I needed to make some time up so I thrashed the tits off it on the way up to Chairlift. I passed loads of riders and cruised past Ishy before the fuel stop. I arrived at the first group with a big cheesy grin, lit a ciggie up and waited for Ishy Friday was twice as bad, I had blue coolant shooting out of the overflow and hitting me in the face, mind you it was a warmish day
As for the gearing, I tend to ride too slow in sections so having a faster 1st gear is more of a help than a hindrance. After Scotland I dropped down 1 tooth to a 12T and have ridden it like that ever since without too many problems in club trials.

Following on from Stu's post in the Montesa section...
Does anybody know the maximum RPM's a 2005 Beta will rev to? and where do I find the gearbox ratio's for each gear? Looked at the tech specs on the Beta websites but no joy...
Cheers

That sounds like a very handy program, where did you get it?
Thursday morning at last years SSDT, John Lampkin geared my bike up so that I could make some time up on the road - too slow across the moors
He fitted a front sprocket that had an extra 2 teeth (11T to 13T I think). I remember him saying that you lose 1st gear but gain a 7th gear. Most of the sections can be ridden in 2nd up there so all I had to do was ride them in 1st gear.
I had it flat out in 7th for all the roadwork on the Thursday and Friday and can honestly say that it makes for a *very* quick trials bike. I think Ishy's brother did the same down Silsden bypass and was clocked by his mate at 83mph who was following him in a car
-
That doesn't look like a bad write-up at all, nobody being slagged off, no complaints about the trial etc. So why did the organisers not want it to go to print? What point are you trying to make by publishing it now? Have I missed something? I don't get it !!!
Ah, hang on - are you saying you predicted Fuji taking the WTC crown?
-
Yep, supposed to be tonight

Ishy might be wishing he was riding

Brilliant, tell him well done

Big dopey looking bugger in a bright red fleece
Sorry Andy, but I had to laugh watching you on the telly.
In particular...
I think Freixa is riding the tree stumps section whilst you and half a dozen photographers are stood up with cameras glued to their faces. You finish your shot, check yer camera, casually look around and see that the 2 to 3 guys to your left are on their knees, poised for the next shot. You dropped down and lifted the camera up so quickly that you nearly knocked yourself out
I just wish I had taped it
