  1. Wildwood Weed (Jim Stafford) The wildwood flower grew wild on the farm, And we never knowed what it was called. Some said it was a flower and some said it was weed, I never gave it much thought ...... One day I was out there talking to my brother, Reached down for a weed to chew on, Things got fuzzy and things got blurry, And then everything was gone! Didn't know what happened, But I knew it beat the hell out of sniffin' burlap. I come to and my brother was there, And he said, What's wrong with your eyes? I said, I don't know, I was chewing on a weed. He said, Let me give it a try. We spent the rest of that day and most of that night, Trying to find my brother, Bill. Caught up with him, 'bout six o'clock the next morning, Naked, swinging on the wind mill! He said he flew up there. I had to fly up there and bring him down, He was about half crazy ..... The very next day we picked a bunch of them weeds, And put 'em in the sun to dry. Then we mashed 'em up and chopped 'em up, And put 'em in the corncob pipe. Smokin' that wildwood flower got to be a habit, We didn't see no harm. We thought it was kind of handy, Take a trip and never leave the farm! All good things gotta come to an end, And it's the same with the wildwood weed. One day this feller from Washington came by, And he spied and turned white as a sheet. Then they dug and they burned, And they burned and they dug, And they killed all our cute little weeds. Then they drove away, We just smiled and waved .......... Sittin' there on that sack of seeds! 6. Why did you start, or maybe what was the kicker that started you riding (Trials)? Why do you continue to ride? And maybe the follow on question, what would get more people riding trials? Well Alan....what are your answers?
  7. Upon moving to California in 79, my father had a XL175. Never rode bikes at all till then. Went to the library to check on any books about offroad riding. The Boonie Book by Carl Shipman. Bought a 81 IT175. Rode mostly tight goat trails as the're called out here . Moto'd out a bit but I always liked the tight gnarly rocky stuff. Borrowed a 74 TY250 and attended a trials school. After that, that was it! Sold the IT, bought a 74 TY250, rebuilt it and have never looked back since. 74 TY250, 84 Fantic 240, 84 TY250, 91 Fantic 309 and now a 02 Scorpa. The first World Round I ever saw was on VHS (1984 Watkins Glen). "Why do you continue to ride?" I like the challenge. Old time friends, and of course Team Full Monty. "And maybe the follow on question, what would get more people riding trials?" Invite people out to ride. Show video's with the average guy riding sections. World Round vid's are great but to a newbee......cool, but I can't do that. Demo's Alot of this has been done many times out here with very small results. Some do show up, ride an event or two and thats the last you see of them. The core of our group has ridden other types of bikes one time or another.

  19. From the few post I've read here there seems to be a lack ignition parts available. My 1991 309 mysteriously lost its spark. Stator resistance readings were good, all grounds were clean of paint and tight and white to red, white to green wires produced a voltage when spun over. So I went for the ignition coil CDI unit. Found out the stator and CDI coil units were Ducati. Did a web search and found a scooter parts supplier that had the parts. Ordered the coil unit, installed it and started on the first kick. My point here is alot of the Fantics and maybe other older bikes used ignitions that were also used on Scooters. The Coil CDI unit was alot less than from the bike dealer. CDI Coil They also have a stator that looks the same as the one on my 309. Stator I thought this might help.

  24. Years ago I worked on a single shock 247 Fantic that wouldn't rev up. It would idle okay. The stator wires were pinched where they run through the case thus lowering the voltage. I was told by Bob Miller from Section One Trials ( no longer in business )that Ducati stators used in some scooters were the same. Anyone know how to get in touch with Bob Miller (San Luis Obispo,CA)? This diagram is from a 307,247 and 125 manual but was the same as my 309. 8X10 Printable Right click and save to your computer.
